They do allow a drummer to play clearer at faster tempos but Bostaph never needed them to play with any of his bands including Slayer... Just pointing out that they AREN'T necessary for that band's music, and in my opinion detract from the over all tonality of the music.
I like this more than the album version. Why? Its way more lively and human compared to the heavily processed and synthetic feel of Andy Sneap's production. Hell I think this is how the band should record The Dark Roots of Earth. Just the five piece in a room together playing the songs live in 1 or 2 takes with minimal overdubs.

Testament is THE most underrated thrash band of all time. Hands down, much more so than Exodus. Testament has ALWAYS (except their death metal phase imo) produced excellent music with unwaivering excellence.

@Jtmoney363636 Really? I liked "Demonic" and "The Gathering". They may have had slight death metal influences there, but it was still unmistakably Testament all the way. Even "The Formation of Damnation" had some of it left over, mostly on the title track, which I think gives them something else to add to their old-school sound they're going back to. Just that little bit of uniqueness makes them different than the others in the genre, which is always a good thing.
@uofm97 I liked The Gathering a lot, not so much demonic. For whatever reason I just can't stand death metal style vocals. I can't wait for their next album since they have said in interviews it should be like Formation(which I think is their best album since New World Order).
@Jtmoney363636 "The Gathering" did have a lot of those death metal vocals as well. Death metal vocalists, for the most part, are basically grunting while claiming to spitting out words. Honestly, Chuck is the only guy I've heard use that style to where you can actually understand what he's saying perfectly, despite the harshness and aggression involved in executing it. That's only after you listen to those albums a lot and listen really hard.....that's how I learned to do it anyway.
@uofm97 Chuck and the lead singer from Amon Amarth are the only vocalists I can take death metal style vocals from to be completely honest. It just doesn't appeal to me.

@uofm97 Chuck and the lead singer from Amon Amarth are the only vocalists I can take death metal style vocals from to be completely honest. It just doesn't appeal to me.

@Jtmoney363636 I do agree with you on both guys. They're aggressive, yet still intelligible. The style doesn't exactly appeal to me either, mostly because most of the vocalists who use it sound like they're having the Diarrhea From Hell. lol. If it's done right and sounds good, I don't mind it so much.

I saw them in SF at the warfield 1993 when the ritual just came out.
I was barely 15 and ti was my first metal show.
Still one of the best I've ever seen live.

@simpleben09 Maybe not the best vocalist but definitely the TOUGHEST. Throat cancer and still singing like a beast? Fuck yeah. James Labrie was a WAY better singer than him before his food poisoning but because James is a pussy, he STILL hasn't recovered and now sucks compared to Chuck. Chuck doesn't equal the greatest but fuck he's a tough guy.

I hate how every fucking testament, slayer & anthrax video is swamped with megadeth vs metallica comments. It all boils down to personal preference. Why not just enjoy the video and comment on the band your watching.

Megadeth is fucking awesome, and they are more speed metal then thrash anyways. Peace sells and Rust in Peace are considered to be 2 of the greatest metal albums of all time, and if thats not enough you can credit half of kill em all to dave mustaine.
