Can you just SAVE those non-sense words, e.g. flexible, powerful, configurable, please i've seen these words just too many times, that's sound too Microsoft and even worse.
@Mixikyr If it's information you want, here's a 1-hour video touring Drupal 7 features. Free for the next few days, apparently drupalize.me/videos/overview-drupal-7
@rarepattern thank you (: i'm watching this at the moment thou /watch?v=sfrfuCLH9sg , don't get me wrong i'm not just trying to criticize. i feel your video was well done but it really didn't cover anything much, but then again 57 seconds can't really.
@MrUncomment thanks for your "kind" comments :) -- i might not be intelligent enough for such a "master piece" CMS...but IMHO, CMS was designed to simplify daily work on website maintenance, and allow non-technical users benefits from the latest server side technology without learning programing--not for some "techGeeks" show off their programing skill... You might enjoy your manual transmission sport car, but laugh at a guy drive an auto transmission is certainly unwise.
There is a difference between end-users and engineers. It takes an engineer to BUILD your car-- auto or manual. If that engineer doesn't know much... well, I guess you get a 1950s Skoda, and not a 1990s Honda.
Now, what you're doing is comparing the back-end, engineer's experience of Drupal, to the front-end, end-user's experience of WordPress. That's just silly, wrong, and misleading... it's not comparing an apple to an orange, it's comparing an apple to a hamster.
@rudiedirkx I agree, this was nothing more than a video saying the power to connect. Which is a catch phrase every company likes to use. Drupal is also "what you need it to be". So what is drupal...it's a framework with an open source community and thousands of modules. String together a few more cool catch phrases... I'm still as clueless as I was 57 seconds ago. Examples of a range of Drupal modules 5-10 seconds a piece would probably get the point across a lot better.
Drupal is hard for a non programmer. Once you have a site running another issue is: maintain it. The site can also be heavy and buggy if you use modules for any feature needed.
Just starting and wanting something fast and stable? You'd need a lot of work for a specific goal. I see Drupal as something between a framework and a CMS.
You are the only coder? Once you know it, it's a big step on what its done, you remove what you don't need and finish what's missing. You get free time!
Drupal has thousands of modules - most of which have bugs / issues that don't get fixed for weeks, if at all.
Drupal tries to do lots of things, but isn't really very good at any of them, it is really slow (when it can't use lots of caching), it uses way too much memory, its themeing is painful, it stores code in the database, userability is an unknown concept to it and so on.
Such a frustrating video. "What is drupal? The Power to connect." is as useless as saying "Whats this project? The answer to all your questions." The little description given goes over the head of everyone except experienced users who, in all probability already know what it is.
i dont recommend drupal to those who just wants a portal/website. its too advanced for those who are familiar with wordpress or joomla.
drupal is best for web based apps or complex, multi user levels of portals. we develop all our templates and modules. for our clients, we customize the administrations to be easy for them to use.
if you want something EASY to maintain, a lot of cool templates, easy to find free modules, then drupal is NOT for you. unless you are an adventurous type.
@halmsx True to a point, I had the same mindset as you until I actually got into the Drupal environment and used it to create simple static websites which is a great start into seeing how easy and fun Drupal is, not to mention the great modules it offers.
If you want a career where you don't have to remember anything, structural engineering is not for you. If you want a career where you can build things, however...
Drupal is *easy* to maintain if you have half a brain and reasonable LAMP experience. The modules are free, and gosh-darn-it, unlike WordPress, all in one place where issues are tracked and *corrected*. "Cool templates?" Uh, what you're saying here is, "if you're a freeloader, Drupal is not for you, right?"

seriously, i am not against Drupal(actually it was the 1st CMS i tried), after more than 100hrs in trying build customized template, choosing modules to meet my need, and using CCK/Views, i finally gave it up ..

Drupal vs joomla? joomla is mutch better then drupal i have tryed out both and im stuck with joomla.Joomla is so mutch easier and has moore extensions then drupal. There is so mutch more to do with joomla then drupal.
Thousands of modules, yes... But would be nice if there were only hundreds of modules, that were actively maintained, so that I don't have to spend hours choosing a module that may or may not be supported on the next version of Drupal.
I myself dont really see any problem choosing modules. Yes, you do have to spend some hours research, but tell me any other cms where you don't have to! If you select Joomla, wordpress, or any other content management system you do have to do your research. Well, at least if your serious about your project. There ain't no Toys-R-Us-solution. I'm sorry, but thats just the way it is.
you need a better music and definitely another voice

To explain Drupal (in 57 seconds), this is a lousy video!

@rudiedirkx Yes indeed, to **explain** Drupal would probably take a bit more than 57 seconds.

@rarepattern I think you could say what drupal is if you weren't advertising for it simultaneously.

Correction: GNU GPL license and not Open Source - there is a difference. Push Pause at :38 sec
rjdennin 2 years ago
@rjdennin Are you saying GPL is not an open source license?
rarepattern 1 year ago
@rjdennin One thing is the license, and other is if the source is free or not.
GNU GPL is the best license, i think, at least for me.
And Open Source means you can download it, and use it, and if you want, you can modificate it.
So, what's the point in your "correction"?
