  • Hey guys, our headlining tour started today in Houston! We're playing an 80 minute set each night! Check out the rest of the dates through our website linked in the "video" information up top. Hope to see a lot of you at the shows! -Chris

  • Chris is definitely my favorite guitarist, like ever.

  • im seeing you mother fuckers tonight in sparks cant wait

  • So, is Chris wearing a wig, or is that how his hair actually used to look? xD I love you guys, keep writing great music. (:

  • @EthenTheSceneKid that was my real hair. it will never be that long ever again. this is old school.

    -chris

  • I love this band, I was introduced to them last week, with Bloom, and im hooked, thank you guys for the amazing music, I hope to see you in Boston!

  • @21ricky666 thanks a lot! glad you really like it. we will be headlining in Boston in Jan/Feb. Keep an eye out for dates! -Chris

  • @scalethesummit awesome! I will definitely be there.

  • Is that not Pat on the drums?

  • @Chance3248 it is.

  • I know them

  • Between the buried and me? lol

  • this band is the shit, i finally got around to picking up the collective and they are getting better and better with each album

  • Hey, I just wanna say you guys are so awesome, I've never heard another band that even compares to this style and feeling of music.

  • Incredible performance. Please come to Argentina!

  • I saw these guys with Fair To Midland and Periphery. still the best concert ive seen to this day.

  • amazing!!! i love the little break at 1:00, it makes me so happy. you guys are seriously amazing!

  • that mistake at 6:09 is the only reason i havent killed myself yet

  • Yeah, a world tour with StS and AaL is what the world needs.

  • One of my favorite bands, no question.

  • Great, great stuff!!!

  • Saw these guys during spring break with Fair to Midland.. WICKED STUFF.. i was not expecting these guys to be as awesome as they were... you guys keep it up your going places

  • @TubaShetz421 Thanks a lot dude, appreciate that. That was an awesome tour! -Chris

  • This is one of the best bands I have heard/seen in my life. Recently saw them in KY and they never hit so much as one bad note. Excellent guys too.

  • I wish you guys would tour with animals as leaders that would be the best show ever

  • @alexdavenport1 i went to see animals as leaders, and thats all i thought of.

  • COME TO AUSTRALIA

  • That bass tone is wicked during this performance. You guys are the reason I still have faith in modern music.

  • you guys are the next dream theater...and thats comin alot from me...only thing stoppin you is a singer....which is understandable why u dont have one

  • I saw you guys in February of last year here in Charlotte with Between The Buried and Me and Devin Townsend Project, and have been hooked ever since. You are all phenomenal artists. Please continue forging these sharp sounds!

  • I just discovered this band a month ago, I went to the store and said to the guy, I want something good ! And he gave me your cds, now I can't stop listening your songs ! It's stuck in my head all the time even when I sleep ( which makes me have good dreams for sure XD ) Anyway, I'm planning on learning your songs on guitar someday =D ! Don't stop the good works and hoping to see you soon in Quebec !

  • @Darksquad666 Hey man, thanks a lot! Very glad to hear that. Last time we played Quebec was with Dream Theater, Im sure we'll be back soon. As of right now we only have Montreal and Toronto for Canadian dates on the next tour, but keep an eye out! Thanks again for all the support! -Chris

  • @scalethesummit Well Montreal isn't that far from Quebec, I hope I will be able to make it there ! Nah I don't hope, I will ahah ! See ya there ;)

  • Pat was really feeling it that night wasn't he?;D

Was killing any of the fills he placd in Bloom, and just really tight on Sargasso Sea. Nice guys. And the new album ROCKED btw. Keep it up, and I look forward to hearing your guys next best album.

  • You guys plays pretty tight on stage. Nice to see a REAL new progressive metal band, keep writing oustanding and great compos !

  • This band is like sex to my brain. FUCK ME AGAIN PLEASE ANY DAY!

  • SOMEONE MAKE A TAB!!!!! I WANT TO PLAY THIS

  • @dps140 ahhh, i did. there is a tab book out for the entire record, ahhhh... so you can ahhhhhh

  • @scalethesummit I just wish there was a Guitar Pro tab for it!

  • BEST BAND OF OUR GENERATION. THAT IS ALL.

  • Hope these guys spawn a big modern progressive shift in music.

  • @bradx2112x That would be feakin' sweet

  • People are seriously saying these guys suck? They have more talent in their fucking pinky than the average person does as a whole. Fuck em all.

  • epic band, whoever says yall suck prolly listens to ICP and slipknot.

  • Call it being nervous for your CD release show. When I saw you guys at Beacon in 2009 you were amazing and my jaw was dropped. Now that I've listened more, I can hear the mistakes in this video, but come on. How can anyone hate on STS? In my own opinion, they're what Prog Metal should be: instrumental. Almost 2 years later I still have nothing but love and affection for CDC. And Collective is amazing as well. If you don't like them, go listen to another band. Don't insult them for no reason.

  • Will you guys ever be anywhere near West Virginia? Favorite Metal Band! So fucking sweet I have listened to your albums like crazy helps get you through the daily work grind. :)

  • Chris, did you study Classical Guitar at Berklee?

  • The scales (zing) you are using sound very odd to me, what key is this song in for instance?

  • AWHHH YAAA!!! Good ol' Scale the MFin Summit. Before eight strings were cool. and tapping was innovated from Beneath the Massacre. Before six string basses were brutal. The Collective will be on a new list of mine for this year: outstanding production. Its sounds so pure. Keep up the great work. two horns up.

  • Saw you guys live in Denver a few nights ago. You all put on a ridiculously good show. Thanks for being such chill guys and hanging out with fans too. We all appreciate it!

  • Lol at these comments critisizing your guys playing, i dont see any of them getting well established in the progressive metal community at the young age of 20 something... Just keep on doing what you guys are doing. Im actually quite delighted to see you guys communicating with your fan base.

  • @NepentheBandNy oh yeah, its no worries. its the internet, people hate to hate. right now I think all of these guys are just having fun with this particular video as I really did ruin these 2 songs haha. I look forward to the day one of these youtube kids comes up to my face to tell me how much I suck, haha, going to be the funniest thing to ever happen to me or us. thanks for the support, appreciate you taking notice to our hard work! thanks!

  • @scalethesummit It only shows that you are human for 2 songs, the rest of the time you are a machine. Anyone who can open for DT is legit.

  • @scalethesummit I think it'd be downright hilarious if they told you that you suck and then proceed to ask you to autograph the CD they just bought. Hoping to catch you at The Pit in West Palm Beach in a few weeks; wish you'd come down to Ft. Lauderdale!

  • @scalethesummit yeah, thats also kinda funny how sts is touring with the human abstract. lol. My favorite of faves right there

  • @scalethesummit you guys are the shit no doubt. you guys take talent to a whole new level and thats is something truly to appreciate. keep rockin it guys

  • protip... tune your guitars EXACTLY about 10k times before the show... a few notes sounded a few off from each other and for instrumental stuff... that should be a no brainer

  • @Metalguitarfreak "pro tip": classic youtube comment. thats awesome. I would think your ear would be better trained, as those are wrong notes not out of tune haha. they would be consistently off the entire song if so. der

  • @scalethesummit when you say wrong notes do you mean mistakes or did you write it like that?

  • @Justcardona yeah man, mistakes. this video shoot was probably my top worst performance ever, haha. its a bummer because the video came out great ha, oh well. i have many times over redeemed myself now.

  • @scalethesummit heh 4:47 is the epic fail of the show.

  • @ChiZ712 oh my god I forgot about that part. thankfully I wasn't in the clip, you just hear the brutal sounds of me butchering that part haha. times have changed, we come a long way from that show. playing everyday while on tour really does make one a machine. practicing in a room with your band mates is one thing, but playing on stage is different and way more open for error due to distractions, being physically and mentally exhausted while touring, etc... buts its fun as hell!

  • I love this album, and I've heard some of the new stuff too, sounds awesome. You guys stopping in Grand Rapids, Michigan on your next Tour by chance? because that would be amazing if you did.

  • do you guys use any sorta of hearing protection when you play? hate to see guys go deaf later in your musical career. you guys are awesome!

  • @0kenyk0 absolutely, every show and any rehearsals. I actually used molded ear plugs with filters other than just normal foam ear plugs. and if we dont use ear plugs we are using in ear monitor systems. -chris

  • @scalethesummit ah ok cool. looking foward to your new album!!!

  • ive watched through some videos and yeah you use it every now and then, i just think alot of those higher harmony scale riffs would sound cool on a low end harmony instead of chords holding out for the other guitar. but hey you know your band better it was just a thought i wasnt accusing you of misusing your 8 string!

  • @facelessgojira3 no way, we use the low B a ton. im not upset or anything, just thought maybe you only watched this video. plus you dont see one person in these videos the entire time so it would be hard to tell when we use the low B I would think. but now your last comment is now talking about song writing more, not the use of the string.

  • im confused why these guys huge 7 strings if they dont even touch it. they should really take advantage of having that string, they could play some sweet sounding stuff if they did.

  • @facelessgojira3 your apparently confused. look through our tab books. and its a 7 and 8 string guitar. we use the love B in every single song we have

  • Guys,, you're awsome.. hope to see you soon in Spain, awsome proggy rock stuff

  • @jagmaster89 thanks a lot. there are talks for a Europe tour this fall

  • Can't wait for the new album..

  • tour with animals as leaders plz?

  • @cloud041089 been hoping to make that happen sometime this year. we'll see I guess

  • what age did you start playing guitar?

  • @almostgary around 12, but I didnt take it seriously until more like 15. im 26 now. 24 in this video

  • I can't believe I missed you guys coming back to your hometown with BTBAM/Cynic/Devin a year or two ago. and I'm born and raised in Houston!

    ARGH

  • chris do you have any tips for writing?

  • @TWINKY8888 I wish I did. I teach a lot of song writing here in Houston for private lessons, but its really all about learning the certain tools need to further your writing abilities more so than an actual "tip". I always suggest learning as many new things as possible; scales, chords, rhythm's, etc... hope that helps dude. -chris

  • @scalethesummit Thanks man. its awesome how you actually write back to your fans. keep up the good work

  • wtf kind of 8-string is that dude playing? sounds so good, might just be touch though.

  • @sexmagician222 Its a custom Mike Sherman 8 string, tuned B E A D G B E G hope that helps. -chris

  • Are his cymbals mic'd?

  • @YOWHATTHEHELLUP71 there are over head mic's. pretty standard for picking up the cymbals.

  • i will forever regret not getting an autograph from you guys. oh well, just another excuse to go to a show

  • @lukyganesh you'll get another chance. we'll be touring a bunch this year. -chris

  • @scalethesummit are you guys gonna come to the cleveland-akron area in ohio? i wanna see you guys play live so badly... i need something autographed by all of you lol

  • @LuVs2SpOoGe19827364 sure we'll make it back to Cleveland again sometime this year. keep an eye out. we'll be on tour a lot this year. -chris

  • You guys are by far my favorite instrumental band. Any plans on a new album in the not-too-distant future?

  • @superfish22 Nice dude, thanks a lot! I would make sure to "like" us on our facebook page to stay up to speed on things. We just released the artwork for our new album, "The Collective". and our label posted a pre-order for a shirt/cd combo. youtube wont let me post the link, so google search their online store I guess. thanks for the support! -Chris

  • You guys are awesome. Hope to see you in Portland, Or sometime. I was reading what you guys said in another comment about how the internet is affecting the music industry and I totally agree. I did illegally download your guys' stuff first but once I realized how amazing you were I bought a cd and a tshirt. I generally don't tend to financially suppost bands that could afford to pay my rent for the rest of my life and not even flinch, though. Call me a communist.

  • @kylemctreehugger1991 Hey man, thanks a lot. Yeah there is a fine line on downloading stuff because at the same time people can not afford to buy every single album that they like, so I would rather them have our music than not, in that case. We all really appreciate you purchasing our album though, it does help us.... and we can't pay your rent so no worries there haha -chris

  • just glad you guys are putting h-town on the map lol. keep up the good work. your music is like you guys are painting no homo lmao.

  • @Se666aN thanks dude, appreciate that! we have a tour starting here in Houston on March 3rd, you can check out the dates on any of our websites in case you are interested in coming out to a show. -chris

  • 0:30 the bassist starts tapping?!?!?!?!

  • Scale the Summit, Gordian Knot, Animals as Leaders. 3 of my favorites. Keep up the awesome work. you guys are inspirational.

  • I wish you guys come to Chile

  • What amps do you guys use to record? I really like the tone on Carving Desert Canyons. Also, you guys should grow your hair out so you can head bang haha. Thanks.

  • Amazing stuff, guys!

Hope yall do some shows in NC, when you start touring again :D

  • Hey Chris. One of my friends recently showed me you guys and i fell in love right when i first heard sargasso sea. i actually named my band in rock band sargasso sea and everyone was like wtf is that hahaha. Do you have any idea for when the new cd is gonna come out because i am really excited to hear some new sts. -Luke

-Luke

  • Pat have you had much experience in rudimental focus and/or drumcorp/drumline stuff?? I can tell you've done so much amazing stuff in drumming...

    keep it up.

    Thanks.

  • I love your work I think you all have allot of talent. Chris I was wondering when you just started playing did your right hand have any tension. I keep trying to lose it even by playing slow but my hand still gets tense I don't know why

  • hey chris, who makes your Eight?

  • @MrGuitarman234 Sherman has made me a few and Artinger made me one 8 string. -Chris

  • I can't wait for teaser clips of the new album! I have Chris' guitar exercise book and love that thing too.

  • Do you currently have any plans of releasing this footage commercially?

  • I think davethehostage has it spot on, the next album will be awesome, I mean thought you guys had a few masterpieces on Carving Desert Canyons, so if you've made any improvement on that then I'm getting ready to be blown away =')

  • i think in the same way.. i liked the album "monument" but it lacks a little bit of "epicity" hahahah in it. but then i've waited and when i heard "carving desert canyons" i said to myself: "well that's about it, they've done it".love how the song titles propose the ambiance of the track.im really looking foward to a new work. its a shame that here in brazil instrumental bands (specially foreign bands) dont have space to perform.i guess ill never see you live.only if you guys feel sorry for me

  • @frenchicelandicpomel glad to hear that. the next album will really hit you in the face with epicness though! and believe it or not, we almost played Brazil in March. Dream Theater invited us down their with them, but we couldn't make it happen due to the funding. We'll get another chance, you wait. Just keep spreading the word down there and we'll make it happen for sure! -Chris

  • @scalethesummit yes, im really looking forward for your next album. i cant believe that you almost came here with DT this year. althought i didn't go to see them, cause for our pay (in general) it was kind of expensive, and i was short on cash, so i never made it...but it would have been a great chance for you guys to spread you word down here, they have huge fanbase. But well is the way things go.But since you almost came once, 2 chance will arrive a some point. ill keep spreading the word : )

  • I think it's unfair to judge these guys by their first release. Monument definitely had the whole "prog" thing down, but overall it was kind of boring.. kinda like Dream Theater. Carving Desert Canyons patches that hole for the most part, I actually felt that sense of epicness that Monument was missing. I think these guys are one of those "It'll take a few records, but they'll go on to make a masterpiece" bands. I think that's how bands grow - they make mistakes and correct them.

  • @davethehostage thanks man, and thats pretty much for every band out there for sure. mostly, not just from a writing stand point, but has you grow as a band or musician your recording budget raises. You personally will love the direction we went on for the new album! Production is as good as it could ever be, and the songs are written a lot more organized and they really paint a picture. Excited to hear what you think. Appreciate the support! Always! -Chris

  • @NoAppend I dont want to promote people stealing our music, but people and the industry have to understand that there are 1000's more "mid-level" bands that are really getting out there, thanks to the internet, so, that being said its next to impossible for kids to buy every cd that they like, so I would rather them have our music than not have it. Its not like the 90's & back, where just the major label bands got out there and sold cds. Thanks the support dude! Appreciate the cd purchase! Chris

  • @NoAppend yeah why wouldn't we be, everyone makes mistakes. this is actually one of the worst shows we have ever played, especially for me. its a bummer this was the one we filmed haha. -chris

  • @NoAppend more than likely wrong notes, haha.

  • I saw you guys at the Masq, the new songs you played were the greatest. I sat there mezmorized the entire show

  • @BetweenTheBuriedAndI Killer man, I was glad to see so many people showed up for a last minute, unadvertised show. Glad to hear you liked the new songs.... and to get you even more excited, those weren't our personal favorites of the new album. There are better songs, look forward to hearing what you think! -Chris

  • @scalethesummit Thats really cool! Have you recorded the new songs yet because I can't wait to hear them. Remember the english guy? That was me

  • @BetweenTheBuriedAndI we are already finished with tracking. songs are currently being mixed.

  • @scalethesummit Awesome. I seriously cannot wait for it!

  • insane amounts of talent right here. come to the northwest plz and thnx <3

  • Enilix and KaletheShadow... I agree with whichever band member of Scale The Summit posted about your comments. Stealing is stealing.. Chris Letchford worked on this music for a long time and also took the time out of his life to make a tab book for the fans who want to learn their music. They have every right to have those gpro guitar tabs taken off of the internet. KEEP ON ROCKING SCALE THE SUMMIT!!! CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEW CD!!!! -Austin Treadway aka (SCALE THE SUMMIT'S #1 FAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

  • @xlxAUST1Nxlx yes! thanks so much.

  • Yeah, I understand you guys want to make money off of your tab book, but dropping DMCA infringement on all tabs on the internet of your songs, that's a dick move.

Don't act like you didn't learn a substantial amount from other people's songs, provided freely to you

  • @KaleTheShadow Its not on all. I just asked for the Guitar Pro files to be removed, they removed them all. I just wanted the ones that were copied off, and when people already steal music from bands, its a little ridiculous to them out on their tabs, when a book is available. Next so called "fans" are going to start stealing shirts from bands. There is no difference, stealing is stealing, and its obviously no way to support a band that said person is a fan of.

  • @scalethesummit Although I really respect the music you guys play, having guitarpro tabs removed is very Metallica vs. Napster of you guys. We live in the information age, and people sharing this sort of thing is going to happen. Lots of bands out there have tab books, and you don't hear of them complaining. This makes you guys look like douches and takes the focus away from your music. Your music is awesome - let other less skilled people learn it however they want and enjoy it for themselves.

  • @enilix We had the guitar pro tabs removed because the guy that posted them copied our tabbook note by note, and then uploaded them crediting himself. that is copyright infringement. Yes, its an information age, but, if anyone is a fan of our band or any band, you have to ask yourself. Do I care for these guys to stick around and release music? Because stealing from them doesn't help their cause and makes it much harder. Its the same thing as someone directly stealing money from your wallet.

  • @scalethesummit Lame that he credited himself. However I still have to disagree with you on the main issue. Going by your point of view, all guitar tabs (not just gpro) should also be removed if they are copied from your tab book. Then the only way to learn your songs would be through your tab book or by ear, which 99% of the population is incapable of. I doubt that gpro tabs really impact your tab book sales that much, if at all. I'd argue that you gain more publicity from people posting covers

  • @enilix It actually stopped orders for an entire week. I was wondering what was up with that and then a fan randomly emailed me about someone posting them so I had them removed and then orders started up again. I understand that people dont want to pay for things now a days, but its really not just about the money. I spent countless hours writing this music out to make the tab book, so back to my point.... stealing is stealing.

  • wow really awesome drumming, makes me happy to see a drummer that doesnt just do the same old stuff.

  • Holding my guitar that high up KILLS my shoulder after a while, props to these guys for being able to keep it up while working the PRAWG.

  • I can't help but notice that at the beginning it says "CRAVING Desert Canyons" haha, no big deal though, awesome songs though!

  • is it just me or do some of the high notes seem to be out of tune? (in comparison to the CD)

  • Still enjoy this video a whole lot lol. Really looking forward to that new album :)

  • This is incredible. Great work!

  • scale the summit, animals as leaders, periphery. Dream tour

  • @lawrenceguitars HELL FUCKING YEA!

  • @lawrenceguitars hahaha that would be such a sick tour!

  • my favorite song, love the part starting 1:13

    love it.

    love, it.

  • @painless651 how can u say between the buried and me have lame heavy breakdowns? wtf is wrong with you......Dont diss BTBAM you fuck, just because you cant handle there awsomness doesnt mean we all have to hear you bitch about them

  • You're guys' style of playing reminds me of the solo's from between the buried and me, except you guys don't have the lame heavy breakdowns, you're breakdowns are still melodic. =[ and no singer.

  • I heard of you guys just recently, and your music became one of my instant favorites.

  • such a good band.

  • your drummer along with mike portnoy is one of my drum-role models lol

  • thats ones one hell of a chode guitar shesh lol.

this probobly is my favorate song by them. AND CHEERS ON HOLDING YOUR GUITARS REALLY HIGH, I DO THAT TOO!

  • @TheSonsofHorusx yeah man, its for comfort and better playability, only way I can play! and thanks by the way! -chris

  • you guys are going to go along way, your music is so original and amazing, I hope this stuff catches on in the more popular media.

(p.s have you guys ever heard of Animals as leaders?)

  • @eviltreebranch thanks a lot man! appreciate all of that.

yeah, we know them. they opened for our headlining show in Dallas last Nov. Cool guys and great band.

    -Chris

  • love your music!! fan from Latvia!

  • Mozarts of metal. keep it up guys. there is only one problem with your album Carving Desert Canyons. Its not long enogh!!! thats the only thing that is wrong with it. :j

  • i saw them live, it was amazing

  • my life would be complete scale the summit toured with animals as leaders, and came to D.C. this music helps me through the day

  • Excited as can be to see you guys again coming up on the 29th! Especially since one of my favorite local bands, Female Demand, is playing as well. It's going to be wilddd!

  • i hope you guys have plans on releasing tab. your ideas are amazing. it's so refreshing to hear prog "adventure" metal that isn't always dark. I enjoy the journey you take me on.

  • @Rhamsody the tab book has been out for 10 months now! you can get a copy of it through our online store. which is linked under the video info section.

    and thanks a lot! -chris

  • im not sure if this inspires to to keep playing guitar or to just give it up entirely...mind bogglin shit tho guys

  • @Oreomix93 Inspiration!!!!! AHHHH!!!!

  • Was listening to Opeth on Last FM and you guys came on. VERY pleased you did =P

    You guys are awesome!

  • @Jinskee thanks a lot! I hope we are able to make it over there one day as well. spread the word until then! -chris

  • i JUST started listening to you guys, and your guys' musical creativity, musicianship, EVERYTHING is just so awesome. hope to see you guys play in hawaii :]

  • i JUST started listening to you guys, and your guys' musical creativity, musicianship, EVERYTHING is just so awesome. hope to see you guys play in hawaii :]

  • i JUST started listening to you guys, and your guys' musical creativity, musicianship, EVERYTHING is just so awesome. hope to see you guys play in hawaii :]

  • This stuff is awesome

  • Also in your tab book the lead u play at 3:44 in sargasso sea seems to have an error in the transcription, i have the rest of the song down but when i play that to your cd the way its written it sounds off i could be wrong but if you could fill me in that would be superb
