  • if i was in the tractor.. i would need to change my pants after the situation

  • sorry KRT...but it is a WCExpress.

    Gary Haupt

  • That's not a WCE train. It's a Via rail from Ontario.

  • hahahaha they drive trains almost as bad as they play hockey hahahahaha go hawks

  • The grade crossing signals activate a minimum of 25 seconds before train arrival.

So even if they did not hear the horn at previous crossings, they had time to clear when their crossing signals activated.

  • there was a red flag on the side to let engineer know that workers are there

  • @mikey1961ny That might work fine on a road, but not quite when the vehicle weighs thousands of tons....

  • ooo that must have left a mark!!

  • I find it so strange that the train is beeping non stop. Yet workers are so slow to react. Both tracks are blocked by equipment. As soon as they heard the whistle they should have had some time to move out of the way you'd think. You can hear trains from a mile away.

  • Thanks D Dan. I no longer live on the lower mainland so I was hoping it'd get zeroed.

  • @garyhaupt You would figure then the crossing gate came down they would move that loader off the tracks...

  • i thought this was LIRR DE30AC or DM30AC,they have beautiful K5LAs like amtraks

    P42DCs.

  • @k5lta Ah yes but the new CR466L Is far superior in apperance

  • i haven't see that yet

  • What line and crossing is this?

  • It's the West Coast commuter train, running on the CP main, heading west thru Ridge Meadows, heading for Vancouver, BC.

  • If I was travelling in the same direction on Lougheed, where might I take this crossing?

  • While I can't say for sure, from the lay-out of the crossing, I'd say between the Albion Ferry crossing and Maple Meadows. If you bring up the West Coast Express website, you'll get maps showing the route. watching the clip closely, there are lumber stacks on the left and an industrial space on the right, also some rv's parked on right,.

  • Looks like maybe even might of had a mistake on main track number.. I'm a conductor..its happend to me before. Foreman cleared me through his form b and cleared his men on the wrong track..Somebody screwed up.. thank god no fatalities

  • I guess we all find the video kinda mesmerizing. After you have seen it once..you gotta go back and watch again, and slow it and stop it and look and wonder what was going on.

I am grateful that there were no injuries and I hope no employment issues. Mistakes happen to all of us and if we got fired after making one...well, few of us would have jobs.

    But man...that was some hit.

    Thanks for comments, all.

    Gary Haupt

  • Not neccesarily the foreman's fault, the engineer may have neglected the Form B and he clearly passed a red flag in the beginning of the video...

  • In fact..I have no idea about the train crew nor the the gang. Maybe someone will post the answer. I kinda figure the gang foreman is unemployed tho.

    Gary

  • well if you look close in the start of the video he passed a red flag "sign" did this guy get into a planed work? somehow i think so as no foreman would clear a train to run with equipment still fouling the track. i work on the railroad and this kinda crap happens all the time i am sorry to say. it is a wonder more folks dont get killed...

  • HOW DID THE OPERATOR FARE?

  • It Just seems to be that i was On that Train at that time.I was a passenger ANd JEEZ was that a One hell Of a scare.

  • it means somebody FUCKED up big time LOL

  • Looks like the Foreman of that FormB forgot where his gang was. I wonder if that gang was contracted or a Railroad gang, because a Railroad gang should know better.

  • The train had permission from the forman to enter his limits of his work gang. In the foul means not clearing. C'mon, if you dont know railroading don't post railroading videos that will create a stir.

    Steven Welch

    Amtrak Engineer

    Oakland, CA

  • hey Steven..I'm sorry I don't know railroading, but that doesn't mean a person can't post something that interests people. I happen to have traveled that line and lived in the area so I sorta felt I was posting something that appealed to a cross section of viewers. Thanks for telling us what your comment meant.

Besides..it's factual, rail guys screwed up.

    Gary Haupt

  • Ouch! What an impact! But, it could have been worse.

    Glenn.

  • The train was authorized to enter the gang limits, makes me think the worker didn't know he was in the foul.

  • and what's does that mean, in words we can all understand?

    Gary Haupt

  • you think maybe the forman got his tracks mixed up? this has happend to me before. i didnt hitanyone but got withing ten cars of them. the yardmaster in memphis told us no work authorities on track 2 but was mixed up as it should have been track 1. just about ran over the bridge crew in a curve. everyone got lucky as i was pulling thru a 10 MPH switch. if had been crossed over at the first spot they wanted iwould have been running 30MPH not 10, we would have had a bad day..

  • thats crazy man!

  • no kidding eh..and the crew were railway workers.

    G.H,

  • that was crazy.
