  • Oilers started it

  • @oilers000

wrong, the canucks did this first against the wings in 2002, and it really took off against the wild in 2003

the oiler fans did a great job in the Cup run of 06, but they weren't first. PERIOD

  • @SSgtCUSMC Shouldnt you name be gunny for like the past few years now?

  • This is the star spangled banner. not stars and stripes forever.

  • i wish we sang along with the performer more often, it symbolizes unity, we are the united states after all, not the just sit back and dont join in states

  • Too many goose bumps (: God bless the USA

  • Why is that when a normal person sings it, no one joins in, but when the government sings it, they do?

  • I know this guy. It's my wife's cousin. His name is Juanito. Her dad taught him how to sing. He usually sings Spanish music. Good job Juanito.

  • @wannatradeproblems Hmmm... Who's your wife? I don't recall my uncle teaching me how to sing, but I'd like to know who we're talking about here... Thanks!

  • im canadian and all but, when that many people sing it, the american anthem sounds better. More epic, our sounds like a jonty tune, much respect tho.

  • Well Amen to that :)

  • @Jsouthwell2006 Haha i would feel the same way

  • @Jsouthwell2006 I know what you mean because im in texas haha

  • @Jsouthwell2006 They will i bet but yeah i know this canadian kid and he said its too hot up here also lol but ive always wanted to visit canada:)

  • @Jsouthwell2006 Finally someone who understands , thank you! So how did you like your trip to the USA?

  • Thats how we do it FULL OF PRIDE AND LOVE!

  • Americans need to sing our national anthem more often. It gave me goosebumps when the fans starting singing in the middle..It shows we still have pride in this nation despite what the rest of the world thinks of us.

  • @Ravenmist66 Thats just what i was thinking god bless our country

  • whats that idoit anaheiam player doing in the locker room

props to anaheiam that was great proved canada wrong

  • proved canada wrong how ?

  • @hockeybooks i meant vancouver

    their fans sing their anthem

most of them think no one in america can do that

  • @hawksfan212a If I'm not mistaken, that is Scott Niedermier. He was pulled from a bunch of games because of how bad he cut that guy's face with his skate. They let him play the last 2 games so he still gets credit and so he gets his MVP trophy that he recieved when his team won the cup.

  • @hawksfan212a u r an idiot. first for calling THE Teemu Selanne an idiot and then for not recognizing that there might have been some equipment problem. or he didn't want to get emotional, which anthem always is. it's a cup clinching game for crying out loud!

  • Teemu Selanne getting an equipment adjustment prior to the start of the game - he was to start on the opening face off. Once the anthem is over, the puck is dropped!

  • @hawksfan212a

That's Teemu Selanne getting a last second equipment adjustment. Once the anthem is over, the puck is dropped. He was on the opening face off!

  • @hawksfan212a that stupid anhieam player is one of there best players so hush

  • this made me cry a little bit

  • @aaronh257 i know right god bless the USA!

  • i was there!

  • That's my dad!! I remember he came back home with a championship cap with a lot of pins on it!

  • im canadian but that gave me so much fucking chills i thought i was gonna faint

  • haha wierd i got the chills too :p (im also canadian)

  • thats my uncle!!!!!!im jesus contreras!!!! whoooo!

  • thts my dad!! ur cousin Jesus?

    its JJ!!

  • Way TO GO I know i am lucky to be in America

    Thanks. Earl

  • hey i noe that guy

    gunnery sgt contreras aka "gunny"

we be PTing wit him every thursday in lakewood ca

i hear from sgt knight that the "gunny" is in puerto rico

    lucky ass foo haha

    that guy is funny XD

  • he was visiting puerto rico

we r stationed in okinawa japan now!

  • beautiful!

  • hey i sang in that!

  • i live like 15 min. away from there

  • brian burke was the Canucks GM

    when we started this

he took the tradition with him

    down the coast to Anaheim

  • Thanks for the info, hockeybooks. Wish more arenas did this, but then again, getting the fans to just be respectful to the Anthem, on either side of the border (mainly this side) is a plus.

  • @hockeybooks

There was no tradition for the Ducks. I was there at that game and sang the anthem that night. Were you there, too? The feeling and the energy and the buzz that night around the arena as people were getting to their seats was incredible. We all knew the Ducks were going to win the Cup that night. My whole section of season ticket holders had become a family over the season. Sgt. Contreras is a regular singer of the anthem, he heard us, and let us have our moment for the Ducks. F-U.

  • @braddyboy82

the good sgt himself saw this clip and said thanks for posting

he needed a copy of this CBC anthem cuz NBC didn't show it

thanks for dropping a comment for everyone to enjoy

  • I love that! its so good. :) I like how he got the fans to sing.

  • As far as I can tell, the fans were already singing. Sgt. Contreras simply got the fans to continue by raising his mic, ala Donnelly in Vancouver.

  • Sergeant Contreras needs to sing in more arenas!! That was amazing!!

  • Oh my God.....I watched this video and got chills. Love it when I hear 'O Canada' from a Canadian crowd...love it EVEN MORE when its an American crowd singing 'The Star Spangled Banner'.

  • I was going to post virtually the same exact thing, so I'll just say...

    Yeah.

  • hey ,

    if we emailed this to

    leno or letterman ,

    do you think they might

invite the Sarge to sing ?

  • Hey, I'm game!

  • i have a 7mb version

    if anyone wants it via

    sendspace

  • I was there and actually teared up when the crowd came together. Haha I surprised myself.

  • Thank you soo much for posting this!! I was watching the game from home, and NBC didn't broadcast the Anthem. This was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Thank you Sergeant Contreras!!!!!

  • I am very glad everyone in attendance enjoyed the anthem. If it gave you chills, can you imagine what it did for me. Thanks for your support. GO DUCKS!

    Staff Sergeant Contreras

  • HELLO SSGTCUSMC, I JUST FOUND THIS LINK ON grassfireDOTorg. Myself being a 17 year retired USARMY Tennessee National Guardsman, you have for sure brought me to tears and hairs standing up. This is so beautiful. I support you guys and gals overseas with all of my heart. It gives me so much joy. When it comes down to it I know personally that you and all of our troops will stand up with the USA citizenry if we have to buck up to our government on different issues.

  • Good job Anaheim. NHL fans should sing the Canadian and American anthem in both usa and canada.

  • This was the best National Anthem I have ever witnessed. As a former Marine, I was very proud of the job the SSGT did, and I hope this is the first of many Anthem's that are sung this way at sporting events in the future. At a minimum, it should become a standard at all future Ducks games.

  • I was there to be a part of it. That was awesome.

  • I'm posting this video everywhere! Thanx for your service Sgt Contreras! Amazing job.

  • I am very glad everyone in attendance enjoyed the anthem. If it gave you chills, can you imagine what it did for me. Thanks for your support. GO DUCKS!

    Staff Sergeant Contreras

  • You did an outstanding job and I was thrilled to be there to experience it. I've always wanted to do that but Angels and Ducks crowds would never get into it. Congratulations for doing what no previous anthem singer in Orange County has been able to do before you!

  • oorah ssgt.contreras..I was'nt there but you did a nice job singing.. thank you for your service.

    sgt.matt yeramian's proud mom cynthia

  • Thanks Mrs Y. I am glad you enjoyed it. I'm sure your son had a great time at the game as well. Thanks for your support.

  • I was there and thinking it was about time we followed the lead started by Canada and invite the crowd to sing. The, Wow! Marine Staff Sargent Juan Contrares did just that! Once we all realized he wanted us to join in, it sounded like we were all on key! Goosebump Central! Too bad the US TV Audiance missed it!

  • That was one of the coolest things I have ever experienced... NBC sucks.

  • Simply awesome! shame on NBC for now showing this.

  • absolutely wow

  • That was awesome...

  • I loved hearing this in person!! Holy cow talk about chills down the spine.

  • AMAZING!!!

I got chills when I heard it.
