Amazing because I was there and I saw some missiles thrown from both sides. In all honesty I saw 4 things thrown. If the EDL were there to cause loads of trouble they could have quite easily have caused trouble and broke through the police, there were well over 1000 EDL there! Is this the best you have?
@philuk2000 To clarify.....I was standing towards the back of the car park. Prior to moving back, two smoke grenades, a firecracker and a firework were thrown within metres of my feet. Moving backwards, I watched more of the same thrown over. Then came bottles and cans. I did not witness any one in the car park throw missiles but I am not naive enough to wonder in the heat of the moment if a can or bottle was not returned. HOWEVER...we were not armed and prepared with the aforementioned items

Most EDL internet supporters post and read FB division walls. I do search the forum to see if there is any truth and sanity but the FB pages are a disgrace and must pose a real headache for admins keeping a lid on racism. Disaffected youths are largely reading FB
Thats why the facebook wall on the edl gets shut when there are no admins around and the page is well monitored now with many people looking at it and telling people racism is not funny or what we're about. Yeah but the difference is, EDL are cleaning up their act. Just look at the arrest numbers over the years and the attendance numbers. Look at the amount of racism that occurs. I went to nuneaton and there was perhaps 1 racist chant i heard once. Extremists in the edl are in the minority whereas mdl/mac are all extremists. @astonpe I also said I've looked at MDL pages and recognised issues. Nazi Germany is an inflammatory issue to mention....agreed totally. Believe me I have studied that topic in depth. There are also flagrant Nazi salutes seen at some EDL marches. Neither group have a bloody clue what they are inciting with that link. I am glad you mention engagement in a positive way. But you can't hope to engage when skins in that march came armed to attack. Then claim it proves a point Muslims are violent?
A lot of the nazi saluting came in the early days, i think it was some welsh lads who were doing it, there the ones you see on the pictures doing it anyway. Theres not much of it lately i dont think, any racist issues get reported on the EDL site as we like to bring up every issue and discuss it and to see what's actually going on seeing as we're there and have a limited view on entire proceedings but there has been very little lately regarding national front style stuff.
Yeah, there's some generalisations made that verges onto racism and inflammatory comments, but they're on the slide as well. Until we're totally clean, we'll always have this over our head just because of the scrutiny we're under. We cant, exactly, which is why we dont tolerate that sort of stuff, but then the same could be said for the other side. MDL sprang from the actions of EDL so to say they are all hardened extremists is to put yourself open to allegations that EDL are all hardened extremists. Many of the Muslim lads with us saw this as an attack on their community, not to defend some ideological view that Nuneaton residents should be governed by Sharia or to dismiss our Army. The biggest turn out for a march was approx 3,500 in Stoke (correct me if I'm wrong of course). Yet the main page alone is over 62,000. Web 'growth' is dubious
because theyre groups of people with things in common where they can talk about things and meet similar people to themselves. Its not divisive in any way shape or form. I'm much more likely to find someone to meet up with in a local area division than by asking 17,000. Its logical and common in most organisations. The biggest turnout was last saturday adding the two together. More and more are going to their first marches, seeing the edl firsthand and bringing friends to the next one
@astonpe Okay I take your point re divisions. I still think the web is a dangerous way to recruit and incite and I do mean that from both angles, not just EDL. One thing I would like to say is I appreciate the 'engagement' we have had in conversations. It's a shame engagement with Muslim communities couldn't be better handled in some way. @astonpe I've said before I have a real issue with web pages and keyboard warrior inflammatory postings from both angles. There was plenty of condemnation following 9/11 to take one event...the problem lies with right wing media failing to report it. Look at the work of CAIR in USA. The media is weighted against any condemnation....the extremist's views shift more papers and the despicable nature of the terrorist acts is where the vast majority of the coverage is, albeit understandably.
one event though, there was no immediate condemnation following poppy burning. UAF/SWP/Muslim council etc were asked and given opportunities to condemn the actions as the actions of the minority but they refused flat out. Amazing because I was there and I saw some missiles thrown from both sides. In all honesty I saw 4 things thrown. If the EDL were there to cause loads of trouble they could have quite easily have caused trouble and broke through the police, there were well over 1000 EDL there! Is this the best you have?

@philuk2000 To clarify.....I was standing towards the back of the car park. Prior to moving back, two smoke grenades, a firecracker and a firework were thrown within metres of my feet. Moving backwards, I watched more of the same thrown over. Then came bottles and cans. I did not witness any one in the car park throw missiles but I am not naive enough to wonder in the heat of the moment if a can or bottle was not returned. HOWEVER...we were not armed and prepared with the aforementioned items

There were indeed over a 1000 nationwide bussed in EDL there....a paltry 40 odd from Cov/Nun/Bedworth...although according to FB pages ...a 1000 of them. All giving it large that they were attending. Considering this was their locality and considering many of the attending divisions were asking, post march on FB where they all where..therefore I suggest your last question is self-directed

And yeah....The video proves a point of EDL not against muslims but just extremists and the fact that they are peaceful when they ae clearly not - Read the rest of the comments below and you will see that all they want to do is fight and swear at anyone in their way. The UAF/MDL & youth of nuneaton all claim to be peaceful which is why they did not go looking fr trouble and went back to their areas after the protest. They filmed themselves abusing policemen and filmed themselves coming over to the EDL protest area to try and cause trouble and then filmed themselves after the demo trying to find EDL groups to have a fight with.

The problem has always been Islamic political interference - this interference has not caused Muslims to riot all of a sudden - it's the actions of idiot minorities like the EDL who cause racial tension (the type who cannot debate properly and need their grunts to do the grunting).

The poster is clearly an active EDL member on the boards, supports the message of the EDL etc. To suggest that the particular admittance came from a poster who only signed in to make a claim to make the EDL look bad is to defer from the evidence at hand.

Most EDL internet supporters post and read FB division walls. I do search the forum to see if there is any truth and sanity but the FB pages are a disgrace and must pose a real headache for admins keeping a lid on racism. Yeah but the difference is, EDL are cleaning up their act. Just look at the arrest numbers over the years and the attendance numbers. Look at the amount of racism that occurs. I went to nuneaton and there was perhaps 1 racist chant i heard once. Extremists in the edl are in the minority whereas mdl/mac are all extremists. Wherever they spout their vile head, the edl will be there.
Troop homecoming yesterday for example, they went there to tell the troops to die again.

Those idiots should have the full weight of the British law pounded on them BUT I still have major issues with indiscriminate towns and cities marched upon by the EDL with no extremist Muslim cells. There are none in Nuneaton...it's a small town. 35 in a capital city tells you just how much of a minority they are.

A lot of the nazi saluting came in the early days, i think it was some welsh lads who were doing it, there the ones you see on the pictures doing it anyway. Theres not much of it lately i dont think, any racist issues get reported on the EDL site as we like to bring up every issue and discuss it and to see what's actually going on seeing as we're there and have a limited view on entire proceedings but there has been very little lately regarding national front style stuff.

Yeah, there's some generalisations made that verges onto racism and inflammatory comments, but they're on the slide as well. The biggest turn out for a march was approx 3,500 in Stoke (correct me if I'm wrong of course). Yet the main page alone is over 62,000. Web 'growth' is dubious

because theyre groups of people with things in common where they can talk about things and meet similar people to themselves. Its not divisive in any way shape or form. I'm much more likely to find someone to meet up with in a local area division than by asking 17,000. Its logical and common in most organisations. The biggest turnout was last saturday adding the two together. More and more are going to their first marches, seeing the edl firsthand and bringing friends to the next one

@astonpe Okay I take your point re divisions. I still think the web is a dangerous way to recruit and incite and I do mean that from both angles, not just EDL. One thing I would like to say is I appreciate the 'engagement' we have had in conversations. It's a shame engagement with Muslim communities couldn't be better handled in some way. I do understand the likes of MAC etc anger people, but it is the Government who need to take a much harder stance with them as with all extremists.

There was plenty of condemnation following 9/11 to take one event...the problem lies with right wing media failing to report it. Look at the work of CAIR in USA. The media is weighted against any condemnation....the extremist's views shift more papers and the despicable nature of the terrorist acts is where the vast majority of the coverage is, albeit understandably.

The only reason the leadership had to backtrack on their statement was because of the amount of EDL supporters not happy about it, but you wont hear about the decent EDL folk in the press.

We've seen Q&A after interview after Q&A, with muslims who are 'high up' in their societies, openly say that they wouldnt pass on any info for the sake of their religion and family. Put in perspective, 53 convictions from the Asian community since 1997....hardly a scourge of the whole-scale Pakistani community is it? Yesterday, an elder muslim agreed with me that there is a problem with the muslim youth, they are easily led astray by extremists who try to groom them into the next generation of extremists using the koran and the word of allah/muhammed to justify what they're doing. I have due to family members being gay...funnily enough, a fair few Muslims there, including ones I got to know personally who were not 'in the closet' before you seek to ask. Extremists will always target those still in education/younger and susceptible due to the nature of their age....pretty similar to EDL targetting NEET youths with their stereotypical views of Muslims...which feeds the hate and the Muslim youth extremism...vile cycle

Am anti-fascist but neither a Commie student nor leftist. I was there and this is a small snippet of the time the EDL were static there, waiting to march. Fireworks and smoke grenades were thrown over from the march. Taken from another angle, there are youtube EDL clips from within the march which show them being thrown. They also show the EDL chanting 'Taliban off our streets' and 'Who the F*** is Allah' provoking the Muslim's chants...neither constructive....truth and perspective needed....
