Back in tha day this was tha shit here in austin tx still is for me but my son be like what tha hell are u listening to dad and ill say music son music!!!
AUSTIN TEXAS had a big FREESTYLE SCENE..I was surprised to learn later that this was considered underground stuff..only pockets of cities listened to freestyle(ak.a-Latin Hip-hop) Either way..it brings me back
HELP ! Does anyone know where can i get : "Don't Wanna Lose Your Love" by Daize. That freestyle song is a jam back from like '91 can't find it anywhere.
@MrBippin yup, went to skool there at ceres high, davis high, elliot alternative, and Roselawn alternative in Turlock!! but am from san jose, and have hella relatives down there. loves it in da stockton modesto area. i gots my family all down there. i used to chill, i went to skool there back in 1993-1995 miss them days!!
@SuperNORCAL hell ya ya'll were!! wen i was in group homes down there in 1994 fucking LIL SUZY "PROMISE ME" JOCELYN ENRIQUEZ "Ive been thinking about you" and STEVIE B. "FUNKY MELODY" was playing ALL THE TIME ON THE RADIO with SA-FIREs old songs, they could be heard on WILD 107.7 and on local KWIN.
@maineysanjose hell yeah dude thats was up. Man I remember the warehouse parties all over the valley and freestyle was always bumpin. Now I live in San Diego and people out here know only about the more mainstream songs like funky lil beat, When I hear music, spring love. stuuf like that. But artist like Collage, jocelyn Enriquez, reinaldo, Daize, Spanish Fly , Sammy C thats that Nor-Cal freestyle hell yeah
holy shit i love this song i heard this almost 20yrs ago back in elpaso when i was in freestyle i found out like 5yrs ago it was called girl but could never find it thanks who ever uploaded it yaa
@darealjazz back wen i was like 13 in group homes in santa cruz cuz i was jus a nucklhead i'd be listening to this, a radio station in salinas, cali played these jams and i'd sneak cassetes in to record the mixes LOL
Okay this what I know about this music and era. I began my Djing career in San Jose. I worked in Downtown San Jose when Upstairs Records opened. Three Guys named John Martinez, Bobby and Noel opened on Santa Clara Street. This was there first production. If want more info let me know.
I went to upstairs during that time and of course bought two, used to live with some guy that was a mobile dj ...went to upstairs every week as had all the vinyl!!
Still have my wheels of steel and all the Vinyl. I was in a couple of DJ Pools. One in SF and the other in SJ. Don't DJ anymore but miss it like crazy. I went every week too, That is how I came to know the guys.
I actually moved and did not take anything,I regret that since i was the one who used to go in and pick the music..also star records in san jose and another place across the street....cruised king and story also..
@RobGsaDJ I remember streetlight records, they were near Valley Medical Center where I used to work at ,then moved up the street,I lived in eastside near alum rock...family still in san Jose...ok to send message w/info
This Group Originates around the area of San Jose, Santa Clara Ca. area - They were played highly through the U.S. Texas Arizona, you name it through the world but using smart tactics spread more through Special Clubs in San Jose, San Francisco and Los Angeles and extended to New York
Starting in the early 80's - Stevie B is known as the grandfather of Freestyle and Madonna the grandmother, Stevie B from California and Madonna originating in NY.
this is the best kind of freestyle I started the frestyle scene back in the early 80's with a mixture of disco and latin music ...now see the future frestyle lives
