I am no RTS expert, but I think it might be a good idea to make an armory of confiscated weapons/armor that you take from attackers. So that, in an emergency, you can run to the armory and grab the biggest gun you have. It would also be a good idea just to have spare parts guns. Plus, it would just look cool.
