  • Thank you very much for standing up for Unitarian Universalism. I am a 13-year-old and I believe in UU strongly and go to church (OWL and the service) regularly.

  • As a member of Unity Church I can say that I am encouraged by the witness of the UUA in promoting love for all people unconditionally.

  • Awhhh man =)

    Too cool.

I love the sense of community UU churches give ^ ^ I can't survive a Sunday without going to church. Everyone's so warm.

    Keep on truckin'.

  • At a time of division in our country, the message of Standing on the Side of Love is certainly a good and encouraging one! I pledge to stand on the side of love.

  • i love this video...its really inspiring

and by the way...UU's are different from other churches....we encorage people in our churches to belive what they want, to have their own ideas, and to be good to other living things, and to the earth

    we are not evil

  • Hey! I'm in this!!! And I'm very proud to say that I know about half of the people in this video who are standing on the side of love, and I'm even prouder that there are many more people standing on the side of love than I could ever know =)

  • I love this campaign, and this video is a great introduction to what its all about. It makes me proud to be a UU!

  • a wonderful video, a wonderful movement!

  • Exuberant! The little girl at the end is fabulous!

  • Oh yeah, Standing on the Side of Love is really evil. I mean, It is trying to make sure that all people, regardless of their sexuality, immigration status, race, class, -RELIGION-, ability level, age, gender, or any other identity they claim, have access to their rights, are affirmed in their being, and loved. That's really freaking evil. Organized and state sponsored destruction of religion is far better: lets follow Pol Pot's example.

  • Standing on the side of love? Religious people have murdered many, many, many people through out history so don't talk about love! Many religious people are running around youtube hating gays so don't talk about love! Many, many, many religious people are running around youtube calling me and others like me "fucking assholes" (that was a direct quote) SO DON"T talk about religious people having love!

  • People outside of organized religion are naturally better people, like Lenin, Stalin, Mao Ze Dong and Milosevic. Those within organized religion, like Gandhi, H.H. the Dalai Lama, Mother Theresa, and Bill Sinkford are naturally inferior and destructive forces in the world.

People from all groups have murdered, hated people from other groups, and called other people assholes. People from all groups are also capable of standing on the side of love.

  • "People from all groups have murdered, hated people from other groups, and called other people assholes. People from all groups are also capable of standing on the side of love." If this is true, then why bother with the first part of your comment a contradiction to second part

  • Maybe you need to do some research! Mother Theresa lost her faith in God decades before she died and seems like she NEVER got it back! As far as Lenin, Stalin, Mao Ze Dong etc, who cares?!?!? I wasn't talking about non-Christians!! I was talking about what the TITLE of this video represents

  • CHRISTIANS!! I hold to my previous comment and have evidence to back it up! I certainly do not claim that every believer is a liar, corrupt hypocrite, but rather only place the MAJORITY of Christians in the group!!

  • 99minerkc says: "Many religious people are running around youtube hating gays so don't talk about love!"

Speaking as a gay UU, I have been embraced by Unitarian Universalism not in spite of who I am but simply because I am. It was a wonderful experience being with thousands of others, dedicating themselves through their words and deeds, to Standing on the Side of Love.

  • That's good that you had a good experience, but many don't have such a good experience!!

  • ALL organized religion is evil! If you don't think that's true do a little historical research! I am FULLY AWARE of many ATHEIST such as some that you list who are evil but then again that WASN'T the point although you "tried" to slide it in! "Standing on the Side of Love at the UUA General Assembly" Is an ARROGANT and false statement plain and simple!

  • Rather than standing on the outside, judging others, why not come inside and experience Unitarian Universalism? We truly are the uncommon denomination.

The fact that one kind of pie makes you sick, does not mean all pie is bad.

  • But if the pie crust is bad then all pies are bad! o.O

  • How is UU evil and how is it making arrogant and false statements? What has the UU done thats evil? Do you know what motivated this statement?

  • Well it's not UU specifically but rather religion in general! Now if you're interested in understanding where I'm coming from please visit this youtube series. Thanks! -----Hitchens VS Religion No Music (1/5)<-------

  • Ive watched them. I think I watched them before and Hitchens is a good speaker. Maybe better than Dawkins in my view. I think many UU would understand your arguement and indeed even agree with Hitchens on many points.

I still do not get your points directed at UU generally though. I dont get why your saying the UU statement is arrogant and false?

  • Show me where I singled UU out please? I reviewed my comments and can't find one where i direct anything specifically at UU. I did direct my comments at religion.

  • You said: 'Standing on the Side of Love at the UUA General Assembly" Is an ARROGANT and false statement plain and simple!

This is where you said specifically about UU. Plus you are saying all this sort of thing on a UU video page so you are directing your energy at UU and where people can choose to see it as a religion whether you think it is or not.

  • I am happy regardless, are you? I wasnt Cherry Picking. I was telling you how your comments are coming over. I dont get why your spending your time saying all that stuff for no reason. The last comments are just immature. UU doesnt claim exclusivity or absolute control so if you dont like or dont get it then dont go there or visit its pages. I am sure your busy with other stuff but if you want to be embraced and embrace others then look us up :-)

  • @99minerkc I have a guess that you are confusing UU with religion (in the traditional sense). Considering that a great number of members of my UU church are atheists and almost all of them self-identify as humanists, if you put them in the same category as "religion in general" you sort of miss the point.

  • @sinmantyx A UU "CHURCH"? Hmm.... do you take offerings?

  • @99minerkc It's still an organization of people, it is still a religion. However, it isn't dogmatic in principle. It's not perfect, but I find that my church is useful for social support and cooperation for common goals - that sort of thing. It's a bottom-up organization, so your results may vary.

  • @sinmantyx I'm sure other religions felt the same as you at some point, let's hope yours doesn't evolve(:p)into a typical dogmatic religion.

    peace

    may god be less!

  • @99minerkc Actually, you look at the history and it evolved OUT of a dogmatic religion. Unitarians wanted to use reason to figure out God. The Universalists thought God was too nice to send people to hell. It has Christian roots.

It could be argued that current UU ideals are basically what happens when you take dogma and fear out of religion and wait a few years.

  • @sinmantyx My exact point! See what the church evolved into? It went from innocence to what you just described! Let's hope as I said before that your church can stay away from dogma! :-)

  • @99minerkc The Principles of Unitarian Universalism help prevent us to develop dogma, from 'The inherent worth and dignity of every person" to "a free and responsible search for truth and meaning." And even then, the Principles are not a requirement to be part of the Unitarian Universalist religion. I am accepted as my all: as a theist, as an Asian, as a gay male, and everything that makes up who I am. And I know and affirm these principles built for love of all humankind. :)

  • You are certainly welcome to your opinion but it would be more helpful in understanding why you feel this way if you would list a few of the 'evils', 'falsehoods' and examples of 'arrogance' that you feel the UU's are guilty of. I was there in Salt Lake and I missed that somehow.

  • Great job, Adam! Thank you for all of your wonderful energy that you're putting into this campaign! Now let's all get out there and spread the LOVE!
