hi, I also heard in the steamboat shoot interview from 2000 that when he took a look at the original line up for wm 4, he figured he'd go over valentine to face savage and return the favor in the finale. was another example of how vince messed with him for asking for time off in 1987 for birth of son (vince wouldn't grant it so steambaot asked for double time after losing belt to honky. since then until 1991, vince made sort of an ass out of steamboat).

i love having this conversation. when i think about it, he is my favorite of all time (along with sting. yeah i like hogan to for the same reasons most do and hogan can actually wrestle (see hogan vs muta japan), but he's got nothing on the dragon. in the magazine, dragon commented when vince came to him about his return, drgaon said "just give me a month to train and I'll be up to par." those weren't the exact words, but he said something very similar. i still couldn't believe his return.

He was great for for so many reasons. Kayfabe speaking or shoot speaking, he blended the 4 styles of pro wrestling really well. He was a good flyer, GREAT technical wrestler, had the power to hold davey boy smith in a vertical suplex for 10 seconds or lift savage by the throat (though that is a two-person move) and could even brawl well with chops, strikes etc, etc. Again I was speaking in kayfabe but he is really talented whether scripted or not. Anyone see his return against jericho? A++++

The theme he uses now is generic and dull. This theme, however, captures EVERYTHING that Ricky Steamboat embodies.
