I started with a D40 then had a D90 for around 2years now. I absolutely love this camera and wouldn't hesitate to recommend over the D3xxx or D5xxx series UNLESS you really want to stay at an average level. Basically the D90 and D7000 are for people who want to learn photography, the others for point & click styles.
some people say that the D90 is even better than the newer D5100. Do you agree? I've just seen a review of the D5100. I thought about buying the D5100 and I now decided not to....
@shanna1950 well they have the same sensor. what you need to look at is each cameras feature set if you are going to decide betweeent he two. i prefer the D90 over the D5100 because it has more controls on it like a thumb dial AND index finger dial, custom functions, nikon cls, top lcd (saves on battery) and it has a built in auto focus motor. i dont think the d5100 has a motor.
@megsypu i believe the gap within specifically semi pro and pro is little these days. d7000 is perhaps all we want. go to... freedsl r . co m remove spaces and take the chance to bring home a new Nikon D7000
I own a D90 and it is a terrific piece of photographic equipment. I use it for general photography and also for work as I write articles for an angling magazine and include step-by-step photos to show readers how to make artificial fishing flies. The shots are stunning and pin sharp. The kit lens is very good too and perfect for an enthusiast like myself. Am wondering what the D7000 is like.
@MrTruthhurts777 D7000 is a huge upgrade from D90. The ISO performance of D7000 is actually better than D300s. You have 39 AF focal points which is a big plus along with 2 custom user settings and twin sd card slots. I use D7000 as a walk around camera/back up.
Hi There!!! My name is Harshal and I am from India.. first of all I would like to thank you for posting such an informative video..really appreciate..I would also like to inform you that I purchased a Nikon D90 on 6th July 2010....very happy that i finally got it...however, the sad part is that since last 3-4 days I have been getting images that have color issues. for eg. if i click 20 pictures, a couople of pictures will have split colors..like the pictue will be spilt in half with a line..
i have a friend who have d80 with various type of lenses,i was being influenced by him and plan to get one dslr cam...if i go for d5000,can i use my fren lenses?
@memberlamer yeah u can use those lenses, some may just b 'manual focus' as the d5000 doesn't have a built in autofocus motor, but if u get the d90 then they will autofocus as well, cuz of the built in autofocus motor in the cam... other than that there is no difference in picture quality of the two
I have a D90 and my daughter, age 15 has the D5000. You should definitely get the D5000. It is a bit smaller and easier to handle. It has the exact same quality of pix quality as the D90. It has more scene options. The D90 is a bit more complicated and more for someone who is more experienced and wants the manual control that you will not use until you really learn by which time there will be a new one out. You can't go wrong with the D5000 and its a few hundred cheaper. Hope this helps.
@DubaiNoob get a d5000 if your new then the d90 will confuse the hell outta you. However the d5000 explains the modes on the rear screen where the d90 only has the top display panel. get a d5000 bud then move up to d90 or 300s when you get bettr
a few prob whit this camera does not focus when filming a movie and you cannot program the camera exmpl take pctures every 10 minute, and the livewiev is a bit slow (I use only to compose the pictere in the dark)
that's my dillema: d90 SLR or d5000 SLR. I am not yet professional but am working on it! Have lots of pics of house music djs and the dancers & will one have a photo exhibit in the NYC area.....which camera to give fantastic movement stills of the dancers?
well if your going do be a pro then d90 absolutely the d5000 is "a toy" compared to d90 and have you thaught of d300 or d700 its in procamera category it´s way better when thinking about your carreer
@KickinSam808 I have personally owned a d5000 and a d90. I took my d5000 back to get a d90 actually. I have used a t1i, I would have to say the d90 is far better and much better built.
If you are willing to spend the extra money go for the d90, it will give you beter image quality and comes with more features. If you are simply looking for an entry level camera with lots of features for its price i would go for the d5000.
There are quite a few cameras there - look at reviews for each one at cameralabs and dpreview - these two sites should give yo ua good idea of what the cameras are like.
is it weather-resistant like the k20d? at this point the only reason why i see my self with getting a pentax k20d is that it's weather-resistant. i plan to use my camera and some rather extreme weather conditions like extremely high humidity, heat, sand and pouring rain
I'm thinking about buying the D90, but I am a little concerned about the weather seals, on onother video they said that it had no weather sealing at all, does it effect the camera, I looks like a great camera and takes really good photos, but if it's body isn't great I'll have to go with the Canon 50D. Oh, it's my first camera, so, yeah :)
im looking as well ill give you my thought i been looking on the internet and they are about the same price so if i was going to buy one i would go for the d5000 however you may be able to ask in a shop if they can do you a deal try bargain use it by saying i would like the d5000 but if you do me a good deal ill have d90
I gonna take the D90 one..D90 has a lot better things, like the gear for autofocus for old lenses, and it has status LCD on top which is D5000 doesn't..D5000 just like D40 with few new things..I suggest you to take D90...you can look in kenrockwell which can find in google..

Instead of looking through the visor you get see the image on the screen, and shoot thorugh the screen.

its like a point ans shoot camera it basically displays a live image of what the sensor is seeing on the screen as opposed to using the viewfinder.

I'm completely torn between the Nikon D90, Nikon D300, and the Canon 50D. Suggestions?
jvw2941 2 years ago 2
The D300 is old tech now. In the Nikon line it would either be between the D90 and the D300s. Big jump in price though.

If its your first camera weather seals which generally only appear on Pro cameras probably aren't that important.
Especially because not all lenses are weather sealed meaning most in the low price point. Meaning any weather sealing isn't worth a dam.
