Great video. I find it strange Australia is trying so hard to be a part of the ETS. Australia makes such a small impact on the world as a whole. Your video reveals some interesting points.
In Australia, we're ear bashed everyday about the climate change hoax. The Australian media are full of eco-freaks who believe in the 'pixie science'.
They are still pissed off because the Labour Governments ETS (emissions trading scheme) was blocked in federal parliament by the Australian Nationals/Liberal Governments.
But common sense back in the Australian Parliament, the Nationals are leading.
Well that may be, but Australia is actually one of the largest polluters per head, which means there is a huge opportunity to reduce emissions. As one of the leading industrial nations, we have an obligation to reduce emissions, so as to demonstrate that our pledge to act globally on climate change isn't empty rhetoric. Otherwise, China (which recently overtook US in emissions) and other 'developing' nations will see our attitude as 'do as we say, not as we do'.
jakstaaa .....we in Australia don't have any obligations what so ever to reduce pollution. On the scale of emissions around the planet, Australia is less than 1 percent.
You are aware there is planed and developing technologies that will take pollution and convert it in the power etc.....
As to your claim that we have no obligations because we make up such a small part of global emissions - well, this logic is self-defeating, as it provides everyone with a pretext for inaction.
Because Australia is among the worst offenders in per capita emissions (28.1 tonnes - 4 times the world average), it also means that we, and other nations with inflated PC emissions, have the potential to make HUGE cuts very easily, because our industry sectors are grossly inefficient.
In addition to which, I would add, Australia is in fact, the 16th worst emission offender in the world, producing 1.3% if global emissions. So if, as you suggest, all countries who make up a small portion of global emissions are excused from responsibility, we are left with only 2 countries, China and the US, who make up a sizable proportion of global emissions on their own. The fact is, global warming threatens everyone, and we all have a responsibility to act.
CO2 is NOT polution. You breath it out with every breath. Plants need it. There would be no life on this planet without it and it makes up a fraction of one percent of the atmosphere. The more CO2 the better crops will grow, the better off humanity will be.
@ChrisPCrunchy - We do need carbon, the problem is not carbon itself but the immense quantities concentrated in the atmosphere. The fossil fuels that accumulated underground over millions of years are being burnt in only hundreds of years.Crops may grow better in some areas in the short term but overall rainfall will decline and droughts will increase. If global warming isn't real, its the best fucking conspiracy ever engineered- 99% of the scientific community agree it is real and anthropogenic
jakstaaa.......99% of the (IPCC) scientific community agree it is real and anthropogenic that man made climate change is real.
30,000 Scientists around the planet completely question it!
10,000 IPCC eco-religious scientists agree with the worlds second best conspiracy theory......religion is the would number 1 conspiracy!
I agree with 30,000 scientists, they represent 'real science' that gives us our computers, technolgy, life style, and most importantly contributes to capitalism.
What is this tenuous link you are attempting to draw between environmentalism and religion? I really can't understand the connection.
A link I find more appropriate is one between capitalism and climate change denial. Many of the scientists you speak of are funded by fossil fuel industries. Capitalism by nature cannot account for the finite repositories of Earth's resources, and environmental issues necessarily come into conflict with profit making.
jakstaaa .... the link between environmentalism and religion is that both focus on something a person can't see and both ideologies use fear as catalyst for control. The similarities are striking. Threat of destruction, belief in something invisible and unprovable, constant persuasion. If you can't see the link then you are probably fooled by many things.
You are anti-capitalism which is typical of those who use climate change nonsense to de-industrialise the world.
If we acted on climate change and it proved fallacious, what harm would be done other than having accelerated our transition to renewable energy sources? And don't tell me the economy will be ruined. Fear tactics are by no means monopolised by either religion or environmentalism. Too often we are told that any attempt to invest in renewables will destroy the economy, usher in recession and deal massive job loss. It would appear that apocalyptic visions are used by both sides.
jakstaaa .....In Australia, the federal government we have in office at the moment want force apon people massive tax increases and ontop of that forced utility bill increases which is basically an 'air tax'.
About 3-4 months ago, an urban-conservationist said to me...if it helps the planet, then it is ok to tell lies to people.
thank you for this video. KRudd is a grub, Australia's worst prime minister ever.

I stand by what I last mentioned, we in Australia have no obligation to reduce emissions.
People like you are using that eco-environmental religious trait, instill fear and guilt on anyone that opposes your belief.
Me and you alone could continue this debate for years, but I do have a life and I have all intentions of living it.
One thing is for sure, over the next 1-3 decades, it will be proven wrong!
In Australia this winter, we had one of the coldest winters in decades.
