Looking at the exchange of catapults, Gondor would have been better served throwing more and smaller shot.A few hundred rocks, dispersed over several tens of square meters would have done significant damage, rather more than smashing fewer Orcs harder with the quarter ton rubble.

from 1.33 onwards is very nice filmed with the music and all. Though Peter Jackson did really screw up the siege a bit. Cause there was an outer wall around Minas Tirith and the fight lasted for like 2 days. Also the Orcs were in trenches around the city like normall besiegers would.
