  • First off I'm hella mad that we can't see the whole production. lol Two, after having seen a few prima donna's over the years perform this opera I have to say that NONE of them can compare to Norman's interpretation. When I first saw her perform this as a teenager on the PBS Opera At The Met Special back in 89 I knew then that Norman was the best at her game. Her performance then and on this production were perfect!

  • Great stuff - any chance of more?? She was supposed to sing this once at the Proms but changed the programme to Berg 7 early songs instead which was a disappointment. I have her audio recording of this though.

  • I've been working on a blog on Norman and Erwartung. This clip expresses how perfectly she interprets this piece. I'm remembering seeing her sing this in a Met production in the early 90's that paired Erwartung and Bartok's Bluebeard's Castle with Norman and Ramey. Thanks for posting.

  • @edegeorg I saw this performance front row and was mesmerized by her incredible technique - Ms. Norman understands Schoenberg like no other. We were lucky :)

  • plzzzzzzz tell me that this dvd is posted on youtube in its entirety!! PLZZZZZZZZZZ!!! lol

  • Incredible, is there a cd recording?

  • it's a dvd not cd but the tunes you can also find on cd

  • Is it pierrot lunaire?

  • Nope, it's Erwartung.

  • I love this.

  • damn her german diction is sick! and her voice is off the chain!! (and I mean all that in a good way!)

  • Her acting is absolutly magnificent. I have seen this opera in Paris some years ago. She was and still is a good singer and actress.
