  • It would be nice to hear what they have to say if she would just, "Shut Up!"

  • OZ; "There are no easy answers to obesity". First rule of marketing, keep em confused then sell them a solution.

  • Gary looks the best out of all the other commentators. That might be a clue in itself. He also doesn't appear to have aged in 10 years. Could be genetics but still something for his critics to consider.

  • Taubes is correct. Oz is not. Atkins was correct 40 years ago and remains correct today. Taubes is backed by critical scientific research. Oz is not. Oz gets paid handsomely to promote the "healthy grain" lie. Instead, eliminate grains and eat real food like our ancestors (meat, poultry, fish, seafood, whole fat dairy, green leafy vegetables) and you will both lose weight and improve health at an astonishing rate. I know because I've done it and will never go back to grain based carbs.

  • Holy fuck Taubes is a fucking idiot. If I ate nothing but fruit carbs I would be a bone rack. On the other hand, if I ate nothing but steaks and burgers I would be a fat shit. How do I know? Personal experience! And exercise makes you stronger and leaner than you would if you just sat around. Who is Taubes' puppet master, McDonalds?

  • @MassacreBlast You have no idea what you are talking about, he supports a paleo diet. Check it out and you will understand everything very clearly!

  • @MassacreBlast

You couldn't eat only fruit because your body isn't designed to subsist on fruit alone. Also, if you're eating burgers, you're still getting carbs from the buns. Watch the documentary 'Fat Head' on hulu, it'll show you what's going down.

P.S., Taubes isn't telling you to eat McDonalds or fast food, because the amount of trans fats you get from stuff like that is more detrimental than high-carbohydrate foods.

  • Dr Oz is a tool...

  • joy behar is a fucking parasite

  • WHAT IF EATING BRAINS DOESN'T REALLY MAKE U SMRT?

  • @sagebombed lol

  • WHO THE FUCK IS ARGUING WHAT?

  • Bullshit within the first 15 seconds wow. What if fat doesnt make you fat. fuck me thats like a question a 5 year old would ask

  • i love how skeptical she is until Dr Weil comes on. not a very helpful moderator...

  • TAUBES

  • @submarine ummm, actually the vast majority do have problems with grains, legumes and dairy (and when i say dairy, primarily milk) just follow any of the work by robb wolf, mathiue lalonde or chris kresser...

  • Needless to say some idiot here claims grains & legumes are empty calories---Foods with fibre, magnesium, potassium,B vitamins,Iron, manganese etc all needed for optimum health. Even God recommended it in Ezekiel 4:9 "Take unto thee wheat, barley & beans & lentils & millet & Spelt..."

  • @sumbarine Quoting the bible for science won't make you look like an expert... BTW, the keyword is BIOAVAILABILITY. It doesn't matter if a plant has all those minerals if you cannot break the cellular walls while digesting.

  • @AgimA74 Overwhelming vast majority have no problems with Legumes,Grains,Dairy etc because the body can & will break down whatever u give it. Problem is people look for excuses when they eat too much or do little to wonder why their obese

  • Ugggh. Dr Oz needs to get "Good Calories, Bad Calories" and educate himself in a BIG way. Here he is on National TV spruiking all the clangers and assumptions that have been around for the last 40+ years since that clown Ancel Keys manipulated the data in his "Seven Nations" study.

  • I disagree with his point regarding exercise. Studies show that weight training combined with a healthy diet is more effective then either alone. They also show that people who are active have lower insulin levels because they are active. See: Effects of exercise and lack of exercise on insulin sensitivity and responsiveness. This isn't to say you can burn off fat, it's that it has a beneficial hormonal response.

  • @MichaelnChristine hey man, with exercise he isn't saying that it doesn't stimulate different hormonal pathways like sensitising insulin to muscles etc. etc. he's merely saying that you don't burn off fat with exercise and restricting food intake like conventional winsdom says ala calories in, calories out like with've grown up with.

  • @hjillagen Studies show that when you reduce calories you lose weight. The high fat diet just makes it easier to reduce calories and lose weight. Certainly grains have immune issues and grains and legumes are empty calories but insulin on an acute level actually suppresses apatite. Chronically high sugar or insulin is a problem. I honestly don't see 100gm or less of carbs slowing weightloss.

  • @MichaelnChristine you should check out an experiment done by george wade in the early 70s on rats, long story short the rats continued to get fat even when calories were reduced. if your body's hormonal systems are being told to store fat, it will store fat regardless

  • @hjillagen I'm familiar with the experiments and my own N=1 proves that carbohydrates have a big effect on fat mass. Where did you get the impression I thought low-fat diets were good?

  • TAUBES IS RIGHT! Atkins was right too.

  • King -

  • I saw pictures of Gary Taubes before his low carb diet in 2001 befire his "Atkins" revellation of 2002 & how he looks now following that diet. In2001 he looked young, healthy, vibrant. Now he looks much older than what he is,perhaps 10 yrs older,he also looks a little sickly. Sorry I^m comparing before/after pics. I believe its because he is abandoning the many ant-aging,anti-oxidant,carbs found in a variety of complex cargs especially fruit. He doesn^t look good at all, compare befor & after

  • @sumbarine Wow, you mean he looks older 10 years later? Shocking!

  • @AzureSkyes Ok my screw up,what I meant is that instead of his mid 50s(what he is today) he looks much older, perhaps mid 60s. Its true what they say about healthy carbs---loaded with anti-oxidants,vitamins,minerals,flavenoids etc can & do help your body be healthy & look younger. That^s why the massai tribe in africa live till 40 or 45 & that^s it,they go tits up. this is from a guy who loves Beef liver, steak etc but unlike Taubsey I don^t hail complex carbs as some lesser evil.

  • @AzureSkyes The Guy who loves beef liver & a lot of protein is me of course----Mr Sumbarine Man

  • He says 50 years ago if you asked someone why they are going on a hike, their respond would be working up a appetite. He fails to mention moms made apple pies, cakes & baked goods.White bread toast,Coca-cola were a part of the American diet too & obesity was uncommon. But people were out playing more, moving more & portions were smaller. Healthy Carbs provide many anti cancer & anti heart disease properties.

  • What a bufoon Gary is.Whether its a carb, protein or fat your body can & will convert to fat any calories that is not used up.He thinks eating bacon every day is healthy but a carb like a apple or blueberries(that have anti cancer & anti heart disease properties) are suspect. He fails to mention in Japan white rice is a regular food staple & their among the leanest in the world. He fails to mention that moms 50 years ago made apple pies & baked goods yet obesity was rare but were out playing more

  • @sumbarine actually blueberries are one of the lowest carb fruits out there. Mom wasn't serving apple pie every night or between meals. Our snacking/grazing on high calorie low nutrient food is a relatively new thing. Oh and by the way sodas were rarer and a LOT smaller! Both the low carb and low fat communities would do SO much more to tackle obesity if we focused on what we agree on: Don't eat processed garbage!

  • "just before this show i was elbow deep in a persons chest dealing with the ravages of obesity" lmaooo. taubes had to teach this man. this is really sad. doctors don't know much about fat loss or nutrition and people listen to this joker because hes got a tv show and is cool in the "stay out home mom" community lol

  • Hi hi! Have you considered intellectus 424 diet (do a search on google)? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my work buddy lost lots of weight with it.

  • Paleo diet--good diet if you only want to live 25-30 yrs like original man did. taubes cherry picks his data & rejects what doesn^t fit his fantasy. Bacon everyday is good according to Taubes but carbs loaded with anti-cancer /heart disease properties are bad.Japan has a Hi carb diet with only 3 % obesity.Atkins had 40 yrs to publish long term effects of hi fat diet, but didn^t,he knew that osteoporosis, cancer, heart disease risk increases. I love meat but I know I need carbs, the organs run better

  • @sumbarine Firt off, Paleo isn't keto, and "the original man" didn't live to be 25 - 30 yrs old, That was their average life span, the amount of babies that died at childbirth greatly skews those statistics.

  • Of course Dr. Oz disagrees, he makes money off of overweight and obese people.

  • sugar is nasty, a few days eating sugar and I get acne, skin allergies, I bloat 10lbs, have to take naps, eat 4 meals/day and can't even exercise hard. do a ketogenic diet for a few days and i'm totally refreshed.

also READ MASTERING LEPTIN, it is a great book and right on the money if u combine it with Paleo + Taubes' principles. if you're leptin sensitive, overeating causes u to not eat more and want to exercise. leptin resistant and u just get more tired when u overeat

  • It is not how much you eat, it is WHAT you eat.

Bad advice(eat less fat) from governments made people fat.

LCHF works! (low carb high fat)

  • Dr taubes lost me completely when he says exercise makes you eat more duh! But when I exercise i don't want to eat more twinkies and hotdogs and shit like that. After a good workout most sane people don't want to scarf down bad foods but eat better foods. So just because exercise makes you a bit more hungry; usually more smaller frequent healthly snacks and meals does the trick which keeps your metabolism high.

  • @youngfred116 wat u say is true but im on a high protien saturated low carb diet. in 2 months i have lost 36 pounds i went from looking fat with clothes on to only looking fat with my shirt off. and i didnt have to exercise most of the time. i would really workout for like 30 min and only 2 twice a week. but to get the look and bigger u exercise and eat the primal way. as in the good healthy high saturated fat diet.

  • It's all about finding what works for you. Eating fruits and veggies never made anyone fat, Hower with all the bs carbs of corse the pancreas and insulin will work over time to funnel all of that uneeded sugar somewhere. Even bodybuilders will telll you that exercise is maybe 20% and your diet is around 80%. You can lose weight by just changing your eating habbits. Exercise offers other side benefits which are too long to get into. great job and keep up the good work.

  • @kash I just hate to see some people going over board thinking that an apple and an orange is the worst thing in the world for them lol. I try moderation on most things and a little more than moderation on things that are very good 4me. Hey, bump that workout up to about 45min to an hour atleast four times a week and you'll be like WOW. I found out that the body takes about 20 to 30 minutes to start burning fat so make sure your workouts are long enough to tap into the fat. keep up the good job!

  • Why didn't Joy take over for Larry King? She's better than that british turd that's there now.

  • The simplist way I ever heard it explained was like this: What do farmers feed their cows to fatten them up for slaughter? A whole lot of grains. And we're supposed to get thin eating those same grains? I don't think so!

  • The video you provide with us is really very awesome. Want to see more from your channel.

  • i like how dr. oz stutters once he begins speaking because he knows that although he is the medical doctor, the guy sitting next to him is more knowledgeable and that makes him feel inferior and subsequently nervous

  • Hey guys I just posted the Dr. Oz show where Gary Taubes is a guest, 2 parts, heres the first link /watch?v=GcKVr1dDV0U

  • the only thing i disagree with him on is the exercise thing. of course you cannot get skinny ONLY through exercise but it certainly helps. his cause and effect thing is wrong too though. but the rest he's right on target for.

  • haha what is this FOOL talking about the amish diet for? ofcourse they have such low rates of obesity...... they eat mostly meat eggs, animal products and vegetables..... he just proved garys point even more! haha

  • Heart surgeons should stay away from debating taubes, they are in over their heads. Oz is a smart guy, but you can tell he's so shackled by conventional thinking...Taubes is brilliant at cutting through the bs and politics, love it.

  • Dr. Oz off his rocker.

  • Gary Taubes is a silver fox

  • Search for Robert Lustig. He explains it better.

  • Gary Taubes got owned

  • I liked your video very much.

  • I liked your video very much.

  • I liked your video very much.

  • Dr Oz summed it up there "im a heart surgeon". Exactly your not an expert in the area so not giving advise on it. Or maybe il go start talking about Heart surgery the next time your in a lecture hall about heart surgery.

  • "Oh you like it?" (incredulously) "I feel better" (truthfully)

I know, it's an incredible claim that a person can legitimately like to exercise because it makes them feel better -- that is to a sedentary slob like Joy. Try it sometime, fatty! Who knows, you might just find that he's telling the truth.

  • The interviewer talks too much instead of being a facilitator of free flow conversation.

  • All wrong

  • It is so funny that Julian Michael criticized Taubes on misunderstanding the law of thermodynamics, when he only graduated from Harvard specializing in physics. The guy also has a degree from Stanford and Columbia. What a joke! Jillian Michaels should just shut up and take notes when the adults are speaking.

  • @Longtailcat1 seriously man, she's a self-righteous ass, the very kind in medicine/nutrition today who refuse to take their heads out of their ass and swallow their egos. these ppl cannot change the world, and we cannot rely on them to make america healthy.

all the info America needs to be 100% healthy: Paleo Diet, Taubes' Good Calories/Bad Calories, Mastering Leptin (very important stuff), and Metabolic Typing diet (IF you're at an ideal weight, if you're fat, follow a paleo diet). so simple

  • Jillian Michaels s an absolute moron, I don't even know why they included her in this discussion other than for good TV entertainment and ratings. Her comment to Taubes is ludicrous. She has no credentials, scientific background or even a college degree. Her comments to Taubes is based off of her own anecdotal experience, which is not science. Her in-your-face drill sergeant style response to Taubes arguments completely misses the point and fails to address any of his points.

  • All I know is I eat whatever I want and I'm not fat at all and I like have the best abs on my team..But yeah we run a lot...and I eat like a grip of Kit Kats and M&M's with pretzels and Nestle flips and I have zero cavities. That's ridiculous huh guys?

  • THis is SO funny Last Time I checked NO one in asia Is fat.....and all they eat is CARBS!!!!

  • Dr. Doug Graham believes Obesity, diabetes, etc, is caused by putting carbs(refined is worse) WITH fat, which nature doesn't do. The reason carbs and fat are miligned AND defended is they're only bad TOGETHER!!!!

No one on TV is saying this, but it sound right.

Gary, the world's not eating as Dr OZ would want. China is - they are thin. Americans are eating pie, soda, white bread WITH fat.

  • Exercise makes you hungry … but then you going to apply knowledge about food. So I shrunk my initial pot belly in 1 months. Exercise a lot, eating mainly meat, eggs, hemp seed, and raw vegetables.

  • Taubes owns Oz.

  • Interesting that Dr. Oz's contribution tot he debate is to ignore all of Taubes' points, in favour of continual interruptions that make make not very much sense....

    Ten-nil to Taubes!

  • Second, I need to ask this. Have you read the book?

  • @555yingyang555 First, cholesterol is needed by the body. There is no need to argue that point.

I am familiar with the Krebs cycle. However, the issue is not which is the better 'fuel.' The issue is excess adipose tissue. The cause of excess adipose tissue is chronically high insulin which stimulated by chronically high blood glucose.

  • @555yingyang555 That's good to hear about your diet.

  • @555ingyang555 To oversimplify a response I will say this;

Your body needs fat to survive, your body needs cholesterol to survive, and your body needs protein to survive. If you are deprived of any one of these you will die prematurely.

But, your body does not require carbohydrates, and you can survive (some say thrive) without them.

  • Gary is right folks... Don't believe him... Check out my video of before and after... It's a saturated diet with 20 minutes of working out when ever I felt like it... It's a month worth of data...

  • Nice, Oz, using the same "elbow-deep" line 3 years later

  • For a doctor, Dr Oz sounds like he doesn't understand science.

  • Gary Taubes was feelin' the burn or so to speak at that table that night, but in the end his point was made good and clear. I feel Taubes did a great job here. I mean, right off the bat he was slammed by that hostess in here opening statement.

    Good job Taubes!

  • damn let the man talk Joy, shut your pie hole for a minute

  • Dr. Oz gets owned by Gary Taubes!!!

  • wow i just watched this again and wow...joy behar is a terrible host, just because she's bias towards oz doesnt mean she cant let taubes talk, shut up bitch...and oz too for that matter, everytime taubes said anything he got cut off. would have been nice for larry king to have been there

  • gary's point isnt that exercise makes you fat its that exersice doesnt make you thin

  • The host is so bias bc she keeps interrupting taubes but let's oz talk. I just got one thing that we ALL knew about. After oprah saw dr oz and she lost weight, what happened a while later? She GAINED some back! Maybe if she had listened to gary she wouldnt have such a hard time keeping the weight off. Also i know a family who does what gary says and they're super healthy. Stupid Dr Oz and the whole lot that believe what they do including the FDA, AMA and the rest

  • Comment removed

  • How embarrassing, Taubes smashes OZ and he is trying to be diplomatic. Taubes is very smart and smashes OZ on "Every" thing OZ says!!! Well done Gary!!! Keep up the good work and spread the word!!!

  • Nice man Gary Taubes.. smooth candor.

  • Oz is a flake and cunt.

  • Dr. Oz is a heart surgeon and teached medicine at Columbia. Taubed studied engineering, physics and journalism. Taubes is not nearly as qualified as Oz. That's why I lost weight on Dr. Oz's plan, 140 lbs and counting...

  • @swangardian doctors know nothing about nutrition.

  • Its really quite simple to me. I was walking around with a nice layer of fat. I started running and ate lots of carbs. The fat started visibly melting off. Then I starting eating whole foods and eating a lot of fruit and still with the carbs. Now I have a six pack. Pretty simple.

  • shit! Let Gary speak!!!!!!!!!

  • jesus oz maybe u could let taubes speak every now and then

  • "The world is full of obese people eating the way Mehment wants them to eat." That's a really ignorant statement. In Taubes' universe, we have a world full of obese unhealthy rice-eating Asians and lean time meat-eating Americans. Is that the world you live in? He's in fantasyland.

  • exercise does not cure obesity. i've been a competitve boxer all my life, and i've always struggled with my weight despite training up to 4-5hrs per DAY!!! im talking i burn 4000 calories a day and still overeat.

also this woman is fucking annoying. she always interrupts Taubes while shuts her mouth up when Oz talks.

  • @darthchaosofrspw2009 "Medical-Industrial Complex". Just when I thought you couldn't sound more looney tunes, you come up with that.

And the Military-Industrial Complex creates terrorism? Fuck off, twoofer.

  • Wow. Dr. Oz doesn't seem to address any of Taubes actual points - he just keeps trying to change the subject. Seems like Taubes is the one who knows what he is talking about here.

  • @trixy776655 Taubes and Doctor Oz are both quacks and seem to hate science. They are just both going in different quack directions. That's why science is the way to go.

  • @theUSER101 ?? Are you kidding? Taubes is a science journalist who does an excellent job at analyzing research. You think he "hates" science? You clearly have no idea who he is, do you?

  • @trixy776655 An excellent job? Are you kidding me? Why is it that every time he looks at research he sees something different than almost every other scientist, doctor ext? His theories are insane and backed by misinterpretations of the literature.

  • @theUSER101 Actually, many physicians now recommend low carb diets due to recent research findings that these diets help people lose more weight and have better lipid profiles than their low fat counterparts. You might want to look into it. You could be surprised. Look into insulin and how high blood sugar relates to fat tissue metabolism. Have you ever noticed that people who start taking insulin almost always gain weight? Yeah, that's not a coincidence. Have you watched any of his lectures?

  • @trixy776655 If you look at even meal frequency, eating more meals per day can reduce insulin levels up to 28%. You would think in studies on meal frequency that body comp would improve every time with such a decrease in insulin....yet in tons of studies it doesn't. I however, have a problem with the weight loss thing. I don't understand how people are not exercising because they are fat? That makes no sense to me. That isn't even realistic in the scientific community.

  • @theUSER101 i've been fat and basically you feel like shit lol. you don't wanna walk around let alone do 2hrs of weights/running. when i followed a paleo diet and dropped the weight, when i'm thin: i feel energetic, both mentally and physically. i want to go exercise, and if i don't i feel pent up esp when i overeat.

  • @trixy776655 Also, you also realize that most doctors receive very minimal nutrition training, right? Average for med school is about 4 hours. Yup.

  • @trixy776655 Uh, no. Dr. Oz OWNED them.

  • I like Taubes and his book (a lot) but I disagree about exercise. Lactic acid seems to create a hormonal response that causes a fat burning effect. German Body Composition training is an example of this. It is worth noting that if someone is eating horribly it would have little to no effect though.

  • If you have a normal metabolism you can deal with carbs. But if you don't, the fact that carbs raise insulin, insulin pushes the sugar into cells as fuel, leftovers are stored as fat, and insulin stores fat you eat into cells. Result=you get fat because your metabolism can't deal with all of it. Sorry for my bad englisch. I'm from sweden and since I cut down carbs to only 20g a day I've lost 13kg. In 2 months.

Maybe people like Oz should consider that we are all different.

  • Watch the documentary called FATHEAD and you will see how you have been lied to all these years about fat.

  • Doesn't your brain only use carbohydrates as fuel?

  • @hijodetuputamadrenom it uses glucose.

  • @darthchaosofrspw2009 Who gives a shit if CSPI is controlled by the food industry? I don't. It's actually a good thing that CSPI is funded and controlled by the food industry.

Besides, you're just using your obesity troofer nonsense as cover for anti-semitism. Why are you calling Michael Jacobson - a Jewish person - "Goebbelson" on your blog, you fucking Jew hater? Get the fuck out of my country and move your Jew-hating ass to Iran and be with your fellow Jew haters.

  • It is a shame this have this guy defending the truth of insulin compared to metabolic physicist like Dr. Scott Connelly.

  • I'm sorry to say this guys...Taubes' main platform is fraudulent.

I did not want to believe it, but check his childish conduct in an email to a brilliant (pro-low-carb) woman who has been debunking him (and other LCers) consistently by googling "carb sane taubes email"..... her site is Carbsanity (dot) blogspot (dot) com

He acts like a child ducking questions because he knows he is wrong. The only merit GCBC offers is the debunking of saturated fat and cholesterol myths.

    In the name of truth

  • @darthchaosofrspw2009 You're beyond delusional. CSPI funded by the food industry? That's the most ridiculous conspiracy theory I've heard of since "9/11 was an inside job". Fucking troofloon.

  • Gary Taubes is an incredible mind. He is so analytical and focused.

  • my hero

  • One pound of muscle only burns 6 calories a day. That's 20 pounds of just for 120 calories extra. Exercise makes you feel better and releases hormones that help metabolize fat. The calories you burn are secondary. The doctor is saying what he was taught which Gary Taubes is saying is basically wrong.

  • i love the low carb life style dr atkins is a beautiful man and im so glad gary is on larry king

  • Excercise makes you lose weight this guy is not intelligent. People are fat because they are lazy and cant put the spoon down.

  • READ THE OBESITY EPIDEMIC BY ZOE HARCOMBE! ITS A GREAT DIET MYTHS BUSTER!!!

  • @mokugin81 Zoe Harcombe is another obesity troofer paid by Rick Berman. The obesity troofer movement is an invention of the Center for Consumer Freedom!

  • Oz and the chick are talking heads. Taubes nails it. Refined or unrefined, grains are metabolic catastrophes.

  • So if this guy is so smart, someone explain to me, using his rationale, why I am 8% body fat with a diet of 70% carbs, 20% protein, and 10% fat? Someone want to explain to me why my grandmother has been a vegetarian her entire life and is 86 years old and disease free? Key statement in this video is "I am not a diet doctor, I'm a journalist." Thank you, Gary.

  • @UltimateFighter1985 Hormones! goldkitten66 already said it 8 comments down...

  • @UltimateFighter1985 yes, he's just pulling stuff out of his ass right? thanks but i'll take his word over yours, my own experience tells me he's right

  • @bosyeux2 yes he is just pulling stuff out of his ass.... ultimatefighter is right, as an athlete I eat 70% carbs just like fighter and I stay around 10% bodyfat. The amount of LBM a person can gain is dependant on excercise and diet. Not genetics. Obesity is a lazy problem not a disease.

  • @ThermoRage so you're an athlete, not a biochemist or a physiologist or anything like that? he looked at obesity over time and through science. fyi, he doesn't argue that obesity is a genetic thing, he argues it's a hormone thing and too many carbs can screw up your insulin and leptin (hormones). but yeah, i'm sorry, you're right everybody else suddenly just got lazy. and here i am losing 55 pounds just by eating 70% fat and no more exercise than before. thanks for the insight

  • @ThermoRage You're making a lot of claims with no credible info to back them mate. Using yourself as an example doesn't validate your claims within a legit debate. You're ignoring the crucial things that makes us unique such as body type, vitamin/mineral deficiency's, family origins etc.

Yes I agree exercise plays a large part in change of body composition, but 70% carb's is a very large recommendation that the majority of the population would not be best suited to.

  • Hey Dr. Oz, Harvard called and they want their degree back

  • Mental Fat? What the hell...

  • @futoncat I think it's "omental", wikipedia says the omentum is the area of your guts inside your abdomen, so it's just another word for belly fat

  • Oz is being annoying in this video, stfu and let Taubes speak

  • I wonder how many of the people complaining here have actually been overweight, and I mean more than 10-15 pounds. I got very hungry when I did a lot of excercise. On a low calorie diet your body will always try to get back what it has lost. You have to reduce the calorie intake more and more as you go along. Starving yourself! People that are skinny and never have had a weight problem just cant relate, because their hormones are not fucked. Low carb saves lives!

  • the reason why children grow is not because they eat a lot.Growth hormone is what makes then grow so hunger is a response to the hormone and the development of the body, not the cause of it.They will grow even without that much food but stay underdeveloped

hormones rule everything that goes inside our body.

Calories don t count by the end of the day.If you eat 2000 k in the morning mainly of carbs you ll be hungry later...energy was sored already as fat.It does nt wait...

  • Gary is rigth.Hormones are the ones that makes accumulate fat. That is why teenage girls put on fat in certain parts of their boby(breast tissue, legs, buttocks) and boys eat a lot and put on muscle primarily .That is also the reason why pregnant women start to put on fat, hormones signal the body to do so.

Years of abusing carbs without realizing ,which is what happens to everybody, will put the body in constant and irregular insulin imbalance. And everybody thinks bread is inocent. That s a dogma..

  • I agree with everything Taubes says, except maybe for the exercise thing .. At least in my experience, when I exercise strenuously my appetite seems to be suppressed and it rarely rises that entire day. It might be different for others though .

  • @MasterHermes

While the CICO (calories in/calories out) makes theoretical sense, it is not that simple. Yes, if my body requires 2000 calories to maintain its mass and metabolic function, if I eat 1800 I will theoretically lose weight. However, if all of those calories are carbs and fat, the majority of my weight loss will be lean muscle mass with an increase in body fat. Fat in the presence of carbs becomes a secondary fuel and will be stored.

  • While more and more science is supporting what Taubes has been saying for a while...Men's Health magazine recently started supporting higher fat/lower carb diet...he is not the best in his delivery. Of course this is just one interview and consist of people talking over one another so...

  • @CharlieGolf33 Whats funny is you consider Men's Health to be "science." Get a clue...

  • @UltimateFighter1985

I could see how you infer that from the way I worded my comment. I am merely stating that common periodicals are beginning to publish information on the science that back up Taubes' claims. And yes, MH does tend to lead on the distribution of scientific research regarding fitness and nutrition.

  • Why is Oz on here? This should of been Gary's moment.

  • Oh my God poor Gary. Oz is just an industry mouthpiece. I love how they try to make it look like a fair debate.

  • This is inane. What MasterHermes said.

  • Oz is the Lord of SUCK ASSES

  • @MasterHermes only problem fag is that if you have high insuin you ALWAYS will store fat mr mc DOUCHE

  • @greeniem why you have to go insultin comon thats their level of intelect.

  • @MasterHermes have you even listened to this? Or you just gave this awnser without even listening to this.

  • @MasterHermes

    You are inestimably uninformed.

  • dr.oz is an idiot.

  • jesus Oz and the host are so stupid.. Gary knows what hes talking about and they don't period.

  • LMFAO at the paranoid obesity troofer Gary Taubes. Obesity troofers want you to get fat, get cancer, and die young.

  • @xxdiogenescynicxx "@xxcelinux You are obviously a moron. I was overweight most of my life until I switched to a paleolithic lifestyle. With that said I have been at a normal weight for seven years now. Thank God for people like Gary Taubes who are telling the truth."

So how much money did Rick Berman pay you to spread your obesity troofy troof, nutfuck?

  • Gary Taubes is what Galileo was to Copernicus. He has basically taken the discovery of scientists prior to him, who stated that insulin causes fat accumulation, and has made that ignored information known to the masses, and for his generosity, he is experiencing a backlash from those who uphold the prevailing orthodoxy of calories in vs. calories out. I guarantee you, that a generation from now, Taubes will be revered as a science revolutionary along with Atkins, Yudkin, and Lustig

  • @alphacause agreed. It is only status quo fools who still believe this low fat BS.

  • @PairoftheSocks You should watch the March 7, 2011 episode of the Dr. Oz show, which had Gary Taubes debate Dr. Oz for about 20 minutes. He was promoting his latest book, "Why We Get Fat", which is a simplified version of "Good Calories, Bad Calories", and is meant for lay audiences. It is on the Dr. Oz Show website. It was so disappointing to see Dr. Oz, who is obviously an intelligent man, still subscribe to the low fat nonsense. The gimmicks he used to discredit Taubes were ludicrous.

  • @alphacause incase you haven't heard it there is a good interview (post dr.oz show) with Taubes which describes what went on behind the scenes etc, very interesting - thelivinlowcarbshow . com/shownotes/ (ep456)
