My intuition tells me that Geithner didn't want to answer the question because it would put him in a really awkward position. The question was loaded and unfair.
How about asking geitner why AIG should have received TARP funds to begin with, just to pay 100 cents on the dolllar to Goldman on CDS's, so that Goldman could pay larger bonuses in 2009 than it otherwise would have? Paulson may have been primarily reponsible for this double dealing but geitner obviously thinks it was ok.

@Jornev I'm pretty sure most these people in the video don't know either. but I think a "derivative" is a bundle of mortgage backed assets bundled up and "derived" from one place and resold all over the world in this case. and a "collateralized debt obligation" or CDO is...or was the insurance backing those derivatives.. Every financial institution writes beyond their capital because you allow them to write up to 10 times the ACTUAL capital available. Thats like buying a car based on a job you may have tomorrow. @Paolo7219 No, they can't. Congress only has power to pass laws not enforce them. An attorney would have to file a charge with the courts for contempt. Besides, being under oath only makes you liable for perjury which he did not do. He could have been held for obstruction of justice and then held in contempt until he was ready to speak but, really, it'd be an act that harms the legislative and judicial process, aside from the fact that it increases government's power over citizens.
@tonytone73 I don't think so. Congress DOES have subpoena powers AND they can enforce those subpoenas--if they want to. Karl Rove is currently flaunting a subpoena as of now. Congress has FULL enforcement authority for the simple reason that if they did not, EVERY witness before Congress would feel completely free to lie to Congress. And if a witness refuses to answer a question--like Geithner did in this video--they can be held in contempt--and face jail.

How about asking geitner why AIG should have received TARP funds to begin with, just to pay 100 cents on the dolllar to Goldman on CDS's, so that Goldman could pay larger bonuses in 2009 than it otherwise would have? @Jornev I'm pretty sure most these people in the video don't know either. but I think a "derivative" is a bundle of mortgage backed assets bundled up and "derived" from one place and resold all over the world in this case. and a "collateralized debt obligation" or CDO is...or was the insurance backing those derivatives.. Most were backed by AIG and we picked up that tab in 08. I think that's what it is

Besides, being under oath only makes you liable for perjury which he did not do. He could have been held for obstruction of justice and then held in contempt until he was ready to speak but, really, it'd be an act that harms the legislative and judicial process, aside from the fact that it increases government's power over citizens.

@Paolo7219 Congress could only prosecute a contempt charge if the question is legitimate which it really wasn't. Geithner also, most likely wasn't subpoenaed but rather voluntarily addressed Congress. No criminality in this video. A massive crisis like this is never applicable to a "yes or no" question.

I believe that the current "leadership" of this country is relying on the hope that we as Americans are stupid and ignorant. They believe that WE are not smart enought to make decisions. Pay attention people and learn about issues. I only hope that "WE The People" will stop being sheeple and stop listening to their song and dance sales job and start paying attention to what these people are doing as proof from their actions. We can no longer afford to blindly vote like so many have done.

With that said, I hope to enlighten you to the fact that they too, did not believe the common American could understand the complexities of politics and economics and thus, established the electoral college and a Senate that was not elected directly by the People but rather, by state legislatures.
