It's real creativity. You're doing something that you think is right, without "help" from "producers" and other "moneymakers". It's real music. I like it.
Yes, for music that only milks out the concept of repetition. Doh. Make it interesting enough and they can listen to it a lot longer. The reason why most songs on MTV are just around 3.5 minutes is because it's usually just repetitive crap, with few exceptions.
@AORNOfficial There's a button which detaches the mixer console into its own window. Then she can drag it over to the other monitor she has. When I work on music, I have a second monitor with the mixer on it and I turned my monitor vertically so the full channel strips are visible on it. It's a very nice way to work and especially mix.
Fantastic work, Olivia. My music writing experience has been similar, I totally agree that a good placement is like selling 1,000 records, especially these days! Keep up the great work!!
@cgm403 Olivia, if you want to make your music seem edgy and controversial you don't need to create a fake youtube account and post on your own video. There's other ways. ;)
@prayersforastrid That's "The Way That I'm Feeling" off Olivia Broadfield's newest album, This Beautiful War. Buy a copy today! In fact the physical CD comes as a double disc set which includes a whole remix album where the songs have been reproduced as electronic-laden tracks. It's an interesting study in producing to see how you can approach the same song in a different way.
Thanks so much for your comments, I am doing a live web gig and chat tonight at 8pm GMT through ustream, please come watch, I'll be happy to answer your questions too :)
things have come full circle - she says, with shorter attention spans you need to hook/engage a person quickly.. 3:30 or less.. 2:20 - that's a song she says.... well, back in the 50s and 60s most songs were under 3 minutes with some even shorter than 2 minutes. The long drawn out extended remixes of the 80s, 90s etc are going out of favor, eh?
the first thing i did when i got reason 6 was go through the demo songs, and i came across this one, and i played the chorus just vocals and piano on loop for like an hour. just amazed of how simple of an idea(refering to the vocal synth harmonies and lead) turned into a huge wonderful sound. absolutely artistic, absolutely beautiful, amazingly done in reason6
@WulphProductions I can se your point but a good producer can take a song you have written and take it to the next sonic level but the performance is always better when the person who wrote the song is singing it
hi! Does anyone know what you call that thing that surrounds the microphone at 5:04 ? Thanks very much! :)

BTW my kids love "Say". It really is amusing and heart warming to hear my 7 y.o son singing the chorus - word for word.
