@weitgainer I guess they feel pretty pissed-off that the Japanese invaded their country and spent half a century burning their literature and supressing their culture, their theatre, their music, their poetry and their martial arts. Also, Karate only arrived in Japan in the 1760s, and is derived from a number of Chinese martial arts during the Chinese occupation of Okinawa in the mid-1700s.
@weitgainer In fact, linguists now believe that the word "karate" does not pertain to the Japanese "kara" meaning empty, but is what's called a "false friend" in linguistic circles (that means a word that sounds like another word but is unrelated, basically) and probably derives from Kara, one of the 7 original kingdoms of pre-imperial China.
I feel like this is so much of a flashy show boat then real fighting applications. All the slow movements of blocking and striking are very weak. The only thing I got good out of are the kicks. Taekwondo is a modified version of Karate. It's a modern art. That's why their belts, blocking, strikes and stances are the same. Also, all the thin ply wood are very easily breakable. Anybody can break these boards when they're thin.
This is a demonstration dude, not the real thing. The real thing is extremely fast and lethal, and the point of this show is to demonstrate, not to hurt someone. A demo like this shows their focus, precision, and strength, it doesn't always have to be about hurting someone. I do wish they would use thicker boards though, but the stone was pretty good though.
@malcbear Regardless of demonstration, in full contact mode, they are mainly focusing on kicks. Kicks are good, but if somebody get's up close, you're without kicks. Taekwondo lacks punches and a good complete blocking and parry system. That is why the Koreans knew that and learned Aikido and call it Hapkido. Then comes TangsooDo as well. These are all just modern made up art. Taekwondo stances are very rigid and they focus fighting straight aways fighting instead of sidestepping.
this is a severe generalization of taekwondo. You see this then you judge the whole art as such. Even in this demonstration they are using hand techniques effectively. You really shouldn't judge taekwondo on what you see here in this demo, it's way more dangerous than you think. Just like every single martial art out there, there are bad fighters and good fighters. This is plenty parrying, blocking, and sidestepping. In my 12 years of training this is elementary.
@TheHailstorm77 That might be true of the WTF style taekwondo done at the olympics; they do focus very much on kicking to the exclusion of other things. But General Choi's ITF syllabus (which this seems to be) teaches plenty of hand techniques and blocks as well. I don't know what this comment about not side-stepping is all about, when there is even side-stepping in some of the ITF patterns.
@DrChalkwithering It's not that it might it is true. And I did mention that Taekwondo is a modern Karate art. It is not an ancient art. General Choi went to Japan and studied Karate and used that to train his soldiers to fight back the Japanese occupation of Korea. The Koreans did not have a martial arts based system. Koreans were originally from the Han dynasty of China. Long history. That's why if you look at their writing. It's also modified. Koreans used to be Chinese.
@DrChalkwithering All martial arts get's modified over time. But to talk about any of the techniques of Takewondo, the blocking system you're talking about General Choi is of Karate and strikes. He basically brought Karate into Korea but did not want it to be called Karate or it will shame the country. Read history books man. You can also Google this stuff. Karate is also originally from China. Karate means open hand technique. Which is deprived from Kung Fu
@TheHailstorm77 Taekwondo is straight forward kicking. They do have few sidesteps tornado kicks and so forth, but the type of kicking is also found in real Shao Lin Kung Fu arts that is lost. If you youtube Wu Dang Kung Fu, that is the most ancient art aside from Shao Lin and has all the kicking movements that Taekwondo has. all of it. However, just kicking won't do. If a powerful puncher and kicker comes close to a Taekwondo fighter that's it. 90% of those kicks are useless.
In fact there are some very old Korean martial arts such as Taekkyon and Subak which have been lost because the Japanese burnt all the manuscripts. They spent half a century suppressing all facets of Korean culture, such as their literature, their theatre, their music, their poetry; not just their martial arts. Taekwondo may well borrow from Karate, but that's irrelevent; taekwondo has blocks regardless of where they originate.
@TheHailstorm77 Taekwondo was a modified version of Karate. Now its totally something else. Taekwondo has came a long way created and creating something really unique where you won't see on other martial arts. The mainly the kicks. I do hope WTF and ITF stop lying about 2000 years old history BS. Taekwondo should take a pride of it's65yrs history and how much it has and have influenced movies and peoples lives over the world.
@tkdwarrior027 TKD was putted together by Gen Choi hong hee after korean independence from Japanese occupation. Proof? ITF was before WTF. ITF first few form is exactly same as Karate. The things you have to understand is korean history where Why all this fabrication happened? Every nations have some type of their own martial art. Alot of them extinct because it wasn't needed after the inventions of better weapon such as rifle, cannon, and also the political reasons.
@tkdwarrior027 japan ruling class was Samurai. They are warriors. And to warriors martial art is important. That why there sword tech. and jijitsu techniques all have survived.
Compare to that Chosun was ruled by Confusian Scholars, where they didn't like the violence. I don't know how much you know about Korean History but I hope you take some interest. YOu go ahead and watch some of the taekyon clips in youtube, and you tell me the similarity between taekyon and TKD..
As for the girl part... I understand it's part of the showcase, but isn't it foolish to kept being turned back on the enemy during the fight like that? I know nothing about martial arts so please, sensible answers.
@Eurynomos69 Its just a scene, not meant to reflect actual fights in real life. Besides, the girl could defend herself anyway. Lol. But yes, it is not advisable to turn your back, unless you can defend yourself.
@polski2525 and karate is also an imitation of shaolin kung fu. same goes to silat. thai boxing has kicking moves copied from wing chun. just try to love all martial arts =P

Don't worry. We ain't inferior like ya n ur country. N of course we r maintaining our culture. Lots of Korean in UFC / Pride FC for martial arts. R u mma fighter? What the fuck do u know about
What's not cool is that some of my Korean friends say when asked if they do Tae Kwon Do, their replies are like "Yea, its been a while since I've done it, I don't do it anymore" or "Nah man, I got too much homework... I used to do it when I was in grade and middle school"... DUDE! This is your culture! If I was Korean, I would do this at least on the weekends to keep up with it so I don't forget...
@metalkingbeast6 No doubt, you're very correct but many variations have been introduced in different parts of the world however Koreans still maintain the purest, with all forms and poomses matching the very old practice.
@chizzymeka true, you are correct as well, infact i remember starting taekwondo in canada and learning patterns made up by the head instructors, and moves and skills that had nothing to do with WTF or other internationally acredited forms of taekwondo, And they gave out black belts unofficially. now that i practice taekwondo in australia, i learnt all the proper taeguk 1-9, koreo, etc. and they had an application sent to Korea for them to sign saying that i had an official WTF first dan.
@chizzymeka Hiya, i enjoyed the clip, i learnt Judo from 3 yrs old in Singapore, unarmed combat whilst in an elite military unit for 12yrs and other forms of fight and have combined it all with my stick fighting i call it TWATTKWONDO, it's rythmic precission timing, my cane is of solid aluminium and doesn't need alot of movement to take effect on the body/enemies . Please take a look my TWATTCANE sort of fits your name lol so i thaught i would say hi....
@metalkingbeast6 Normally I'd agree. But taekwondo taught in korea or from masters who just came from korea is vastly different than taekwondo taught here. And I don't mean in ITF, WTF either. It's just more hardcore there and rounded out. Where as USA it's like MC blackbelt and not to mention threats of lawsuits etc.
06:20 nice performance but the innocent man is dead though :P Tae Kwon Do is really impressive but I believe that in real action or close combat its one of the weakest martial arts ...
@Barwnos I agree.I practiced TWD for 3 years straight then kickboxing, then Thai boxing & ground fighting.Thai boxing & ground fighting were the most realistic fighting discipines.Look at the beginning of UFC before there was any rules for my point. These TWD black belts would be like a fish out of water on their back on the ground. Then all those years of training in TWD would not help you while a bigger, stronger, more skilled wrestler/ground fighter is punching you in the face :(
Shit that was awesome! Most demonstrations i've seen have been boring but not this one. This has got to be the most hardcore and intense tkd demo out there. Korea all the way!
that was choreographed but very proficient.if you go to learn it the first words from the teacher is why do you want to learn and the only correct answer is to defend.to the japanese haters read the real world history, like korea was civilized and planting and creating art and siences while japanese were living in caves.and a map from over a thousand years ago show it as the east sea

you like martial art?? you should look at my channel.... i'm not very good yet but im training and you get to watch me grow... :D plus you can help me on the mistakes i make and i would appreciate it... :)
@Ken0Kyokuzitsu just happened to scroll down and see your comment. I know you hate Korea because someone taught you the history between Korea and Japan. Here's my question, has Korea (in the present) ever done something bad to you? I know plenty of things the japanese has done to Korea in the past, but I'm not hating on Japan. I hate people being rascist on the internet, I get so pissed sometimes.
Even tho I only trained under WTF and a long time ago. Have to say that these guys know what they are doing. Even the first few that demonstrates the basic control of your body. (Anyone can kick as high as head, not all can stop their kick before target and then go whatever.. :))
Question (a serious one): I don't do taekwondo, but isn't this supposed to be a tournament? Or is that going to start after their choreographed stuff? Or is that the tournament? Either way, I don't get it, could someone explain what the difficulty is, or is it just showing your skills?
The German BND is the renamed 3rd Reich GESTAPO.The BND had organized the delegate Scheuermann of our county to visit or home.To allow him to personally experience how my brother and our parents had been tortured. The BND continued to torture my brother. He was assassinated on July 11th2009.Half a year after the assassination of my brother the CDU delegate Mappus from our district town Pforzheim was made prime minister of the German land of Baden Würtemberg
I love Taekwondo! It really is a form of art. I just wish there were real tournaments/fights/videos of Taekwondo vs Aikido. On youtube, there are only 'demonstrations" which are biased towards Aikido.
Not comparing the two, I'm just saying that the match up would be very intriguing. Love the video! Definitely 'liked' and 'favourited', haha. :) :)
i remember taking tae kwon do when i was little it made me more flexible and it increased my agility ten fold im 19 now and i cant do half the stuff i use to be able to do in tae kwon do anymore i recommend people to take this martial art

Shit that was awesome! Most demonstrations i've seen have been boring but not this one. This has got to be the most hardcore and intense tkd demo out there. Korea all the way!
thechofamily 1 month ago
that was choreographed but very proficient.if you go to learn it the first words from the teacher is why do you want to learn and the only correct answer is to defend.to the japanese haters read the real world history, like korea was civilized and planting and creating art and siences while japanese were living in caves.and a map from over a thousand years ago show it as the east sea

Someone let me know, when they are showing the kicks in slowmo it's just a lot of leg muscle right? And of course being flexible enough?
DwwwD 1 month ago

I love Taekwondo! It really is a form of art. I just wish there were real tournaments/fights/videos of Taekwondo vs Aikido. On youtube, there are only 'demonstrations" which are biased towards Aikido.
Not comparing the two, I'm just saying that the match up would be very intriguing. Love the video! Definitely 'liked' and 'favourited', haha. :) :)
