The only real problem that gold farming introduces to virtual worlds is inflation that is not anticipated by the developers. Developers have many tools to deal with inflation. Gold farming is not a real problem to virtual worlds.

Are there really that many people that don't know people are paid to play (sort of...) video games? You guys need to learn more about Quality Assurance teams for the games you play. QA in short. We don't really PLAY as in have fun just beating the game, but we do have to do things in the similar fashion to find bugs. Most developers don't even touch the game they're making, it's the QA Team's job.
Yeah, I agree. Another thing is that until Blizzard started selling authenticators (which thankfully they did,) a LOT of people's account got hacked by gold-farmers. Which I guess isn't that bad (at least people actually saw the sun once in a while.) But, still...it's the principle of the thing.
@Ambzelia89 Thankfully WoW has authenticators... but that really only prevents hacks. The farmers are still spamming public channels and now they have this new thing going. They pretty much use hacks out in the open to make their toon float, and write their website in midair, in capital cities... where you're not supposed to fly.
Also WoW is not the only one. Any free MMO is PLAGUED by gold spam. Most Korean MMOs like L2, Aion, are also plagued. You wanna explore a city? Turn general chat off.
Oh trust me, I've seen it. My sister plays f2p games sometimes to try them out and it's INSANE. And yeah...I'm on wow for at least a little bit every day...it's in the main city on either faction ALL THE TIME. Argh! i think what people seem to forget is that a persons real life status shouldn't give them an advantage in games. what gold farmers are doing is enabling people who have more money in real life to have in-game advantages by selling virtual items/money which should have to be ernt by all players the same way, by working for it. if bill gates logs into world of warcraft should he have an advantage over any other player just because he can afford to buy his way through the game?
I don't like Chinese gold farmers. Not because they sell gold. But steal peoples characters. If they just used there own characters then it would be fine with me.
At least Blizzard has won a legal case against the US counterpart of a gold farming company setting a legal precedence for other developers to cut down on gold farmers. But its still up to the players to actively hunt down active gold farms and root them out.

This industry rocks. The sweatshop scenario is kind of ridiculous. A WoW player already works in a sweatshop of his own making without getting paid. These guys figured out a way to do it without having to work elsewhere.
1. Blizzard owns WoW and all player items/gold. WoW is their IP and dealing in real money for Gold or in game items is directly against ToS.
2. Opening up a gold selling business however is not illegal. It does though, fck with the economy. Gold buying and powerleveling make noob high level chars that don't know shit about the game.
3. Violating ToS is a risk taken... I have no sympathy for the greedy businessmen that try to profit from it, though I do have some for the poor kids in sweatshops

Imagine how much your neck and ass would hurt sitting in a metal chair for 12 hours hunched over a monitor.

I have to say that in nowadays millions of chinese youths are wasting their lives in those endless, repetitive online games. I work as a software engineer. Some of my co-workers working in China make $12,000 chinese dollar in a month, but lots of people who didn't have higher education make less than $1000 chinese dollar a month. Most of the farmers that work in city as construction workers make less $500 a month. But you probably don't know pork is $15 a pound in big city and $20 a pound in village or small town. Go to China, take a look. Don't judge someone before you know them.

This is a strong result of cultural influence, wow was an American game. Our culture has spread to other parts of the world, which can have a negative outcome. People that become desensitized to a virtual reality they usually have no mural values at all. The people in the video displays another result that American companies have done to find cheap labor and see that no human rights exist in china, therefore more profit for the company.
My main problem with this is these guys class themselves as professional gamers when they are not. A pro gamer wouldn't degrade themselves by buying items or gold or by farming gold. A pro gamer wouldn't hack or use bots or scam others. A pro gamer isn't someone who plays 12+ hrs a day (IMO) but is someone who plays the game legit, competitively and is respected because they are very good at the games they play. These guys just farm gold, I could do that but I wouldn't call myself a pro gamer.

I don't think they never say they are professional gamers. Most of them are just kids, and they just want to make a living. You have your family provide you food, school, shelter, $15 a month for WoW, but they have none. Get a job or starve on the street which is true on mose of the third world countries in this world, including Indian and Africa. It is also easy to say "get another job", you are not living in that country, you don't know how hard it is to get a job.

Me (Warrior) and a friend (rogue) went there to farm some gold. like 5 night elf rogues were there farming, 2 on 5 we killed them like 4 times, until they decided to strike while we had mobs. I laughed so hard, because even though we had like 3 mobs on us, I still managed to kill 2 of the farmers.

The second you click create character on a PVP server is the same time you accept the possibility that you will get ganked frequently by the other faction. I would also point out that these games they're making keep getting "bigger," larger, and more time-consuming to pose a real challenge to hardcore gamers like myself so these games can literally take years to "beat." These are not games like tetris or mortal kombat. These are extremely epic games and I wish people would just leave these people alone.

Many gold farming copanys do "enslave" but that is only like 10% of all of them. selling gold (which is an intellectual property of w/e company) is a violation of the terms of service of all these games. The makers of the games have stated this. I'm not sure the legal aspects of that... but in my opinion, making money off of someone else's intellectual property ought to be illegal and grounds for a lawsuit. I think this is good, I like the idea that people who probably came from a world of poverty, are now paid well and taken care of by the people who run these sweatshops.
This means that the company has to work harder to stop these "Sweatshop" workers, as they are called on some games such as RuneScape. The good thing about these sweatshops, are that the people who work in them find something they like to do and make money from it, they are given a place to rest, they are given luxuries like cigarettes, and food. without this they would be probably living on the street or given a diffrent job they would not enjoy and would not make as much money.
In a way, "Gaming sweatshops" are bad, but also good. The bad thing is that it ruins the game in some aspects, for the people who play the game for fun. It is also bad because the company who run some games do not alow real world item/gold trading.
Instead of living on the street they have money and a place to live, and they look happy.. I see nothing wrong with gold farming and trading, infact i think its a great thing.

Yeah, I agree. Another thing is that until Blizzard started selling authenticators (which thankfully they did,) a LOT of people's account got hacked by gold-farmers. Which I guess isn't that bad (at least people actually saw the sun once in a while.) But, still...it's the principle of the thing.

@Ambzelia89 Thankfully WoW has authenticators... but that really only prevents hacks. The farmers are still spamming public channels and now they have this new thing going. They pretty much use hacks out in the open to make their toon float, and write their website in midair, in capital cities... where you're not supposed to fly.
Also WoW is not the only one. Any free MMO is PLAGUED by gold spam. Most Korean MMOs like L2, Aion, are also plagued. You wanna explore a city? Turn general chat off.

Oh trust me, I've seen it. My sister plays f2p games sometimes to try them out and it's INSANE. And yeah...I'm on wow for at least a little bit every day...it's in the main city on either faction ALL THE TIME. Argh! Some people think of clever ways to kill them, which is entertaining to see but sadly...it doesn't keep them from coming back. :\

i think what people seem to forget is that a persons real life status shouldn't give them an advantage in games. what gold farmers are doing is enabling people who have more money in real life to have in-game advantages by selling virtual items/money which should have to be ernt by all players the same way, by working for it. if bill gates logs into world of warcraft should he have an advantage over any other player just because he can afford to buy his way through the game?

At least Blizzard has won a legal case against the US counterpart of a gold farming company setting a legal precedence for other developers to cut down on gold farmers. But its still up to the players to actively hunt down active gold farms and root them out.

This industry rocks. The sweatshop scenario is kind of ridiculous. A WoW player already works in a sweatshop of his own making without getting paid. These guys figured out a way to do it without having to work elsewhere.

1. Blizzard owns WoW and all player items/gold. WoW is their IP and dealing in real money for Gold or in game items is directly against ToS.
2. Opening up a gold selling business however is not illegal. It does though, fck with the economy. Gold buying and powerleveling make noob high level chars that don't know shit about the game.
3. Violating ToS is a risk taken... I have no sympathy for the greedy businessmen that try to profit from it, though I do have some for the poor kids in sweatshops

Personnaly I think that gold farming is a good Idea.
It gives work for a lot of chinese and it is better than other chinese who are living in the street or who fight some people everywhere. But now I know that it doesn't respect the Human rigths
But some gold farmers says : " It is better than work in a plant"...
They have : a roof, some food and are protected by some accidents.
So that's not very terrible for them.

@Vincentlabz I agree with you. Even if it pisses off other gamers or people from other countries it is better than them living on the street and stealing/committing crimes. I wouldn't want to sit in front of a computer for 12hrs per day 7 days a week in some warehouse only cooled by fans in some plastic or metal chair (not some cushioned leather flexible chair in air condition). Imagine how much your neck and ass would hurt sitting in a metal chair for 12 hours hunched over a monitor.

Also like the kids in the warehouses were saying, they don't just screw around they have to keep farming the same monster repeatedly with someone looking over their shoulder at all times telling them what to do. "If I met a gold farmer I would tell them what they do is wrong." Let that spoiled rich boy live in China for a week and he'll stop bitching, worrying about what is "moral", and start worrying about how to survive. Work 300hrs+ a month for only $240 no thanks!

It is in fact "illegal". It is not against the law, however. There is a difference. An illegal pass in football doesn't get teh QB thrown in lockup. There is however a penalty he suffers. Being that this is against Blizzard's TOS, it is against the rules or "illegal", and has its own penalty - account ban.

What annoyed me was fact that Cgf never played by the rules. For example. There was that unspoken rule that if you kill mobs surrounding a Chest - chest was yours, same goes for veins etc.
Not to mention grouping with Cgf. They would just roll Need on anything that dropped.
However... i did meet some really nice Cgf. Had one in flist for some time.

I work as a software engineer. Some of my co-workers working in China make $12,000 chinese dollar in a month, but lots of people who didn't have higher education make less than $1000 chinese dollar a month. Most of the farmers that work in city as construction workers make less $500 a month. But you probably don't know pork is $15 a pound in big city and $20 a pound in village or small town. Go to China, take a look. Don't judge someone before you know them.

Just a couple points. 1.) Gold farmers themselves do not use bots, there would be no point and it would be redundant. The company owners do it. 2.) Without company owners, there wouldn't be farmers. What is your beef with the people looking for jobs in an overpopulated country? Blame the owners of the companies. 3.) You yourselves, whether by actually buying gold or not are supporting the gold farming industry. You are keeping the game in business, which means that people will keep buying gold.

This is a strong result of cultural influence, wow was an American game. Our culture has spread to other parts of the world, which can have a negative outcome. People that become desensitized to a virtual reality they usually have no mural values at all. The people in the video displays another result that American companies have done to find cheap labor and see that no human rights exist in china, therefore more profit for the company.

My main problem with this is these guys class themselves as professional gamers when they are not. A pro gamer wouldn't degrade themselves by buying items or gold or by farming gold. A pro gamer wouldn't hack or use bots or scam others. A pro gamer isn't someone who plays 12+ hrs a day (IMO) but is someone who plays the game legit, competitively and is respected because they are very good at the games they play. These guys just farm gold, I could do that but I wouldn't call myself a pro gamer.

Do you class it professional to gain an unfair advantage? Not all gold farmers get the gold by scratch, they use 3rd party programs as well. They is not professional at all.

You have your family provide you food, school, shelter, $15 a month for WoW, but they have none. Get a job or starve on the street which is true on mose of the third world countries in this world, including Indian and Africa. Even if they have it hard, there is no excuse for what they are doing. What they are doing is theft. Making money off of someone else intellectual property is not legal or ethical. At the same time, they ruin the gaming experience for honest players such as myself. A while ago I found out someone in my guild had his account hacked, and this is all because of RMT. I remember the china farmers a tyr's hand. You know they really suck. Me (Warrior) and a friend (rogue) went there to farm some gold. like 5 night elf rogues were there farming, 2 on 5 we killed them like 4 times, until they decided to strike while we had mobs. I laughed so hard, because even though we had like 3 mobs on us, I still managed to kill 2 of the farmers.

The second you click create character on a PVP server is the same time you accept the possibility that you will get ganked frequently by the other faction. I don't discriminate between regular players and chinese farmers, there is no Xi Yuan or David Smith, to me there is only Pwnu the level 70 Night Elf rogue. If they didn't want to be pvp'ed on a pvp server, they shouldn't have picked it is their place of work. Risk vs Reward just like with a real job.

I would also point out that these games they're making keep getting "bigger," larger, and more time-consuming to pose a real challenge to hardcore gamers like myself so these games can literally take years to "beat." These are not games like tetris or mortal kombat. These are extremely epic games and I wish people would just leave these people alone.

Its a job. All the people who are dissing the gold farming industry are the people who truly are the theives. My friend is a gold farmer, he is not forced into slavery. Many gold farming copanys do "enslave" but that is only like 10% of all of them. My friend got fired, meaning he now has to find a job, and it will likly be in a lower position such as manual labor in a REAL sweatshop. he lost his job cuz of cunts like the dissing gamers who camp and kill.

selling gold (which is an intellectual property of w/e company) is a violation of the terms of service of all these games. The makers of the games have stated this. I'm not sure the legal aspects of that... but in my opinion, making money off of someone else's intellectual property ought to be illegal and grounds for a lawsuit. Also, the speaker in this vid himself admits that, through his research, some aspects of these organizations ARE considered sweat shop conditions.

Blizzard Entertainment (World of Warcraft) is working to put these 'organizations' out of business by making changes to the game. A lot of these poor kids are runaways who are essentially being placed into slavery by the people who run these 'gold farming sweatshops'. Not to mention damaging a service that people pay a monthly charge to enjoy.

I won't judge anybody until I meet them, I don't buy gold online but those that do are feedng the problem. I'm on a pvp server so if I see one I kill them like anyone else I come across who is of opposite faction. They have to "make a living" I'm just there to play the game.

How can people complain, sitting on your fat ass in a warm house caring only about v-money.. it's all so normal to us but for other people this is damn serious.. without doing this job they have no shelter or food. It's hard for those people to find another job. Those goldfarmers deserve a chance to make a living as much as you do. If you care more about getting slightly less virtual fun on your monitor than someone's survival there's something wrong with you.

I have nothing against gold farming, copyright infringement is their own baby, the thing that bothers me is, they farm the things us other high level players need to farm as well. Which makes it virtually impossible.

Most of gold farms also use advents of afk leveling and botting to increase their income.

This means that the company has to work harder to stop these "Sweatshop" workers, as they are called on some games such as RuneScape. The good thing about these sweatshops, are that the people who work in them find something they like to do and make money from it, they are given a place to rest, they are given luxuries like cigarettes, and food. without this they would be probably living on the street or given a diffrent job they would not enjoy and would not make as much money.

In a way, "Gaming sweatshops" are bad, but also good. The bad thing is that it ruins the game in some aspects, for the people who play the game for fun. It is also bad because the company who run some games do not alow real world item/gold trading.

he must not know how to sell gold then.. or his guitar was REALLY expensive. I can farm myself about 100-300g an hour. I can sell 100g for $9 usd... so on a good drop rate hour i can make about $27 .. not bad eh.
