  • WE NEED MORE MUSIC LIKE THIS AND LESS JUSTIN BEEBAR AND LADY GAGA!

  • Not going to watch this because I saw it live and that's how I want to remember it. But I wanted to say that watching Stewart sing this song was magical.

While he played there was one of those silences that makes you notice the absence of all the little noises you get in regular 'silence', it was one of those timeless moments for me, like you could forget to breathe and not notice.

Who am I to judge but if that guy is only the 41st best stand up ever then I'm the 42nd and am made of bread.

  • Where did you record this? I saw him in Leicester Square last year.

  • He's not bad is he? @agskyrat, could I borrow this video (embed) for a blog post I'm writing?

Also, Twunt is the best new word ever. I'm having it!

  • @garethbundy

    Do as you will.

  • Please play in Galway Stew!

  • favourite version of this song hes actually a really nice singer

  • The actual song is awful!...but this is great!

  • I've never bought any of SL's DVDs before but having seen this little clip, I might do.

    No really.

As long as they have commentaries and Easter Eggs >hesaideggslikeabird'seggs<

  • In case no one's pointed this out, it's spelt "Galway".

  • The DVD of this show is due to be released later in the year!

  • @Oddtracknumbers

Just got it and of course it's great.

  • * Galway

  • I feel sad that because of people like me who downloaded his stuff illegally on torrents there won't be any more Stewart Lee DVDs..sorry. But I'll try to go to his gigs as many times possible when he performs in Ireland, to make up for it. :((

  • @rude1987

erm, he recorded it for DVD in March..

  • @frozenfood1 cheers for the info.last time i heard he won't be making his stand up DVDs because it was not cost effective. Probably after his Comedy vehicle success and his promotion to 12th greatest comedian of all time according to Channel 4 he became vain and arrogant :))

  • @frozenfood1. Really? good for Stew, last time i heard it was not cost effective to make DVDs anymore for him. cheers

  • I feel sad that because of people like me who downloaded his stuff illegally on torrents there won't be any more Stewart Lee DVDs..sorry. But I'll try to go to his gigs as many times possible when he performs in Ireland, to make up for it. :((

  • I loved this show, possibly my favourite of his. And this is definitely my favourite ending.

  • I was sitting behind whoever filmed this! I have never laughed so much in my life...

  • Thak you so much.

  • saw this at the southbank last week. pure gold

  • A great ending to a great show.

    Stewart Lee is a genius.

    Thanks for posting.

  • Oh dear, it seems people really are as stupid as i imagined, and get stupider with every post they write on youtube, and please don't point out the obvious hypocrisy of this statement.

  • Made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck when I saw Stewart close his show with this a weeks ago.

    Thanks for uploading this.

  • I assume this is one of his warm ups for his folk comedy idea?

I've never liked this song, all the versions ive heard have been so cheesy and OTT, but Lee has actually made into a very tender song, Magners aside. Great stuff.

  • I saw the show and I really enjoyed the song in context. I've become a real Stewart Lee convert in the last year or so.

  • Thanks for uploading this! Saw him do this song in Dublin, he told a lovely story before he did this song talking about how his wife's family are from the west of Ireland, and how he associates Galway Girl with her because of that! I found it quite touching! I REALLY hope he was joking when he said he won't be bringing out a DVD of this show...

  • @padraic2001eire

    It was amazing

  • Thanks for taping this, lovely quality. I saw him doing this a few days ago but it's always good to see how he varies it (unfortunately he didn't do the pliny voice for us).

  • I love the fact that at 3:30 Pliny from Histor's Eye is also making an appearance.

  • I think he's more likely impersonating Johnny Rotten. "Ever get the feeling youve been cheated" is certainly a sex pistols quote.

Wish Pliny did make more appearances though :)

  • Actually thinking about it I might email Stewart Lee and tell him how I think his covering of this song will negatively impact the sale of Steve Earl albums.. Well I would have but Ive just remembered Im not a complete twunt! (This isnt even a real word!)

    Cheers.

  • @agskyrat But you are a twunt

  • @captainmadguns

This is exactly the type of comment i would expect from a "Would I Lie To You" fan. Congratulatioins you are officially funnier than Lee Mack!

  • @agskyrat We can't all be versed in the cerebral comedy of "the croc botherer"

  • 3. If you want to get really pedantic then lets ask this question. Does the material contained in this video belong to Stewart Lee? He certainly didnt write Gallway girl, did he? Fair enough he did amend some of the latter verses but I think it remains a cover version does it not?

  • @agskyrat he wrote the context and owns the material as a whole.

  • @chalkus

Not really... There are no royalties on a live cover, but if he recorded or released a DVD he would owe royalties to Earle, though he could approach Earle for a co-copyright on his version. Youtube videos, like bootlegs, are a gray area in the law. Earle, and probably Lee, could ask YT to take it down, but most artists don't bother. If anyone makes money on a bootleg, or YT advertising, they are more clearly in violation under the law if they don't pay royalties.

  • 2. YOU! Watched this clip and by the use of simple logic must have been on this site entering Stewart Lee or some other comedy name into the search field to actively seek out exactly the type of clips uploaded by exactly the type of person you attack in your comments, namely me. Have a look at yourself and your viewing habits because if you believe there is a problem with this type of clip ( I dont!) then you are at least complicit in said problem and at worst equally responsible.

  • If anyone watched the clip and came to this conclusion, I imagine it could only be due to how un-funny the clip is. In addition to this the quality is crap and provides an extremely poor substitute for a professionally recorded DVD. In my opinion most or all of the people who watch this clip will be people like me and you, (Maybe?) who go to the live shows and buy ALL! of the DVDs the result of which is they have almost certainly already seen the routine.

  • 1. In my opinion, this clip when listened to in isolation doesnt make much comedic sense and as a result isnt particularly funny unless your one of the people who have taken the time to attend the show and have heard the brilliant preamble to the song. As such do you really think anyone will watch this clip and then think Well.now Ive seen this Im not going to go to the show or buy the DVD! is that really what you think?

  • Thanks for taking the time to view the video and add your comments and opinions however, I think your logic is flawed and your opinions wrong. Heres why-

  • I suppose you were too busy setting up the camera on your phone to have caught his comment 10 minutes earlier that there will be no more DVDs from him because twunts like you are uploading his new material to Youtube before he's even had chance to finish touring it. Well done you.

  • I caught the bit 10mins before where he was grumbling about piracy. Never heard him say there would be no more DVD releases though? And to be honest, if he's in a situation where he's grumbling about his DVD's being pirated, well at least he's in a situation where his DVD's are being pirated.

Stu's a big boy, i'm sure he knows how to work the interbone and he's not so popular that he can't keep on top of making copyright claims on the videos he feels would harm his success, financial/otherwise

  • He's incredible.

  • where was this?

  • Aberdeen Music Hall on 10.11.2009

  • Pretty good for a satirical cunt!

    Brilliant performance :-)
