while i agree with younger talent need some qualities on their own to be noticed, i do say vets still play a huge role in the process. you mentioned guys like austin, sure austin had that spunk that got fans thinking that he has something in him, however lets not forget he got put over by bret hart to cement himself as the "next big thing", not only that but beating jake roberts (another vet) to become king of the ring in my eyes had me watching him a bit more closer
lets also not forget john cena's first ever match on wwe tv was beating kurt angle. he may not have been a vet but he was an established star and still is, which made a usual casual fan IMO kind of keep their eye on cena and the rest was history. taker as well had a appealing look, however IMO he really got tooken seriously to some degree when he went over hogan for the belt in a years time. savage winning the title associated with hogan in which he was big, is another example IMO
so i do think that vets cant be very heavily relied on to help young talent, they must take baby steps in which they must have individual qualities to be looked at, but at the end of the day, vets giving young guys at least a rub is icing on the cake for me, and especially any fan who does not go much into the backstage stuff. damn i hate this youtube comment system. lol.
I think a big factor now is that guys like Lethal and 'Suicide' are forced to have these gimmicks and cut certain promos whereas in the old days wrestlers had more freedom in promos and stuff.
I mean Kaz got over, pretty much by himself, and then TNA fucked him by putting him in that silly red outfit. They dont need veterans to get over they just need the company to let them get over imo.
If a veteran does something that is bad for the business it is fair enough (Nash in WCW). But people are bashing Hogan before he has even done anything 'wrong'. The least we can do is give him and the other veterans a chance. Thats nothing to do with wrestling, thats just human decency.
Don't get me wrong, a veteran can help any wrestler whether its in the ring (making other wrestlers look credible) or out of the ring (teaching them about the business, helping them develop better promos)...kind of being a mentor
However, I think these younger guys shouldn't ALWAYS rely on veterans to get them over.
The young wrestlers still have to appear interesting/entertaining to fans...a veteran can't always make you care about a certain wrestler, even if he does put him over.
Well most of the veterans are not doing anything to help the young talent. There just there get a pay check. Its not like IWC does not respect them for what they did in the past. If the vererans were doing somthing to help the young talent then people wouldnt bitch. So if the veterans are not going to help like ie Jerry Lynn and Kurt Angle then they dont need to be there.
Lynn did help out with young talent in roh i mean he did that with tyler black to kenny king i mean how good those guys where when they wrestle lynn while he had the belt. plus lets not forget he did help make his feud with RVD the best in ecw.
I was at that Summer Slam, that card was stacked but Hogan/Orton wasnt the Main Event. The least hyped match was Rey vs Chavo and that was during their awesome feud, besides that we had Flair/Foley, ECW, WWE, World Heavyweight Title Matches and like one or two other huge matches. So yea that SSlam was stacked on paper, but didnt deliver on the level it looked it would. But yes Orton def probably had no problem losing to Hogan just to be able to face him that huge feud. Another great vid Astone
i think a young wrestler should have to gain respect before they expect a getting a job done by a legend.

He was over. He was almost in the main event. He headlined a PPV and got multiple world title shots.
Hes not over at all now as Suicide.

No offense my friend but Lethal wasnt forced into the a gimmick.
He stated himself that he wanted the gimmick to pay tribute to machoman and he had the gimmick back in the indys.
CaptainPhenomenal 2 years ago
I know it was his idea and I do like the gimmick but its up to TNA to say no, its gone on long enough now, its time for you to get serious.
These guys dont have creative control. Its on TNA to do what is best for their business. Its not Lethal's decision at the end of the day.

Lynn is the man. His title reign was way better than austin aries current reign is

So if the young guys in TNA should rely on themselfs to get over. Then whats the point of haveing the old talent in TNA Astone.

I agree 100% with your Jerry Lynn comment. He worked his ass off and the ROH fans didn't care at all and were very disrespectful.
