@wind4watts Someof the best Ametek 30 v (and 37 to 40 v) motors are getting old (1989) and all of them have sealed brushes.
I heard a new purpose-built generator will soon be available that is built from the Ametek motor (Ametek - Lamb) original motor specs. Brand-new, replaceable brushes, same high output.
I'm building my own wind turbine and need to know more about what type of alternator to use. Baring in mind that I'm a student and poor, so if possible could you recommend a cheap alternator.
An Amtek 30 permanent magnet motor or similar is probably the cheapest / best way, i am building a chassis & blades for a guy now, that makes 15-17volts just by flicking it round with a screwdriver!, beware some anonymous junk motors on e bay, loads are just useless too high rpm to get even 4-5 volts out of them, seen some jokes on there, needs to make 14+volts at 150-500 revs.
A lot more than 50 watts u cynic! . Outputs of this pmg can be up to maximum (in 40 mph wind) on a well designed turbine like my designs 2.0kw (48v) or (24v)1600w, pleabargain why do you look at all these wind turbine videos leaving same questions if you believe they are a total waste of time?.
I've yet to see any windmill video on youtube in which the person bothers to mention what power output they achieve. Probably no more than enough power to light a single 50W bulb.

Would a solenoid work to generate a voltage?
Thanks for any tips!
