I have been shooting guns since 1967... One thing the moronic Obama zombies and other liberals don't know is that the M44, and its counterpart, the German 98K are actually assault rifles. What defines an assault rifle is that short barrel, which makes the weapon not only lighter but also gives you much faster target acquisition. The AK-47 is the best known assault rifle. It is more effective than the M44, true, but...ONLY AT VERY CLOSE RANGE.
Er, wrong...an assault rifle is a selective fire rifle that fires an intermediate rifle round...the M44 and K98k both fire full sized rifle rounds. I think what you MEAN to say is CARBINE...
@Cowbelltheoneandonly You are right, what I really mean is that these short barrel rifles are ideal for vicious close quarter combat, they are mean guns with a proven record at places like Stalingrad. The automatic reduced power carbine (sturmgehwer) was the next logical step, and the rest is History.
It wasn't mean't to be a formal accuracy test of the rifle, it was just for the fun of blasting stuff with relatively inexpensive ammunition. Thats what most of my videos are about, I just like showing the effects of various calibers and weapons on everyday items alot of times.
you know the iron sight goes up to over half a mile on the m44 right? dont need to be soot'n shit from 50 yards and less, lol. open sights i can get all 5 rounds through a bulls eye of about 2 inches from 50 yards.
Eh for $120 out the door i bought it as a cheap mess around gun and thats what i used it for, blasting stuff for fun and relatively cheaply for a centerfire rifle. Not extreme accuracy.
Its a pretty accurate rifle, though the M44 version is a little less accurate than the longer 91/30. Just remember to clean it good ( using either Hoppes #9 or Windex with Ammonia) after using Mil-Surp ammo due to the corrosive primers. Most Commercial Ammo however has non-corrosive primers. Silver Bear is a good brand to use.
Yeah, my buddy has the M91/30 model. Hes quiet good with it. I try to only use the commercial ammo in my M44 exclusively Plus the softpoints blow stuff up nicely :-) unless milsurp is all i can find.
I think the Kar98 is a better made gun in someways with its cock on close bolt and its higher manufacturing standards, but good luck finding one in good quality for $100, like you can with a Mosin nagant. Not to mention, ammo is more plentiful.
Hey nice video man, enjoyed it, looked like you guys were havin' a blast heh. Just bought a M44 Mosin myself, nice rifle. But mine's dated '44 ;p Anyway, cool video.
The M44 has an attached bayonet while the M38 has no bayonet. Further, M44s have been sighted in with the bayonet extended as have most 91/30s while the M38 is sighted in without a bayonet.
Yea that is what I heard about them. Some have been fixed for that though. You just have to test them when you buy it to see and if its not accurate try it with a bayonet. A good gun smith could probably fix the accuracy.
look up mosin stripper brass on ebay make sure you get the brass and not the steel ones, the steel ones are super hard to get into the gun (trust me I have both)
Polish the chamber with white rouge and a low speed drill on a wool mop and kiss your sticking bolt syndrome goodbye. Once polished mil-surp laquer coated ammo has nothing to stick to.
Its Russian surplus. You can find some that are unshot at your local army navy stores. My buddy just picked up one made in 1946 still in the crate for $99 USD. They are dirt cheap but the action isn't the smoothest in the world and in the cold you kinda have to wack the handle to cock it sometimes. Oh and did I mention that a 7.62x54R round is powerful and also cheap as hell. I use mine to shoot propane tanks...full.
Loved it! Do you roll your own ammo? Looks like FMJs. What loading receipe? Mate, you've got to get some stripper clips! Feeding the M44 using them is a breeze!
If you watch the end of the video he put what rounds he used. Prvi Partizan 150Gr. 7.62x54R SP. Czech Silver-tip Surplus 148 Gr FMJ. And Yugo Surplus 182Gr. FMJ I'm guessing those are Yellow-tip heavyball.
awsome gun, awsome video, shooting shit with guns hella fun. If I had one to my name, this is exactly the kind of thing i'd do. Shooting paper targets is lame :\ especially like the apple at point blank.
40 gallon drum of water and 50AE? Some friends did 5 gallon ice block with a 458win but I missed it :-( Bottles of jelly are always good. I'll think of more later.
I have considered doing a 50 gallon drum, theres an abundance of them at their farm. However I don't think it'd do a whole lot cause I did a 5 gallon or so metal container and it just put a hole in it and kind of bent the bottom outward.
After many months I can reply! Did a little test last week (the vid is on my channel) using 6 pint milk bottles. The 308 was very disappointing but the other two.....
Maybe you're right - 50 gallon might be too big buit it's always worth a try ;-)
I need to get myself a good M44 before they're all gone, and all that's left is the parts rifles. A Russian M44 and a Swiss K-31 are on my shopping list for the gun show this weekend.
