Actually protesters have been enabling the police to improve their riot gear and training for 40 years. Now they are like an awesome army thanks to protesters selfish goings on. They even scare me and I have alway hated the protester mentality
This was also covered on Democracy Now! this morning and one of the show's producers, Sharif Kouddous, reported that the police more or less steered the protesters onto this bridge. They blocked the side streets so people could not 'disperse' even though many wanted to leave.
I hope the events that occur lead to legal action that re-affirms the rights of a free press to do their jobs. If we lose the freedom to document events, then we may as well kiss YT and the rest of our freedoms goodbye.

The people were not 100% innocent. They chose to protest. But when the police moved in and the people tried to leave, the police blocked every street except the bridge. It's not that they moved just because the police said to, they moved because they had no choice. The police were pushing, and they had to move.

Police ARE public servants. They are there, as their Motto goes, 'To protect and serve'. Many never do get that. Over 50% of my kin that are on the force never did. The others are/were known as top cops. They too had little respect for many of their fellow officers, called them thugs and crooks.
One thing that really gives me hope is the big brotherization of the police with all the cameras about. They are finding it a lot harder to pull the tried and true tactics of the past.

I remember peaceful,anti-nuclear demonstrations in the 50's. The people actually WALKED a line on the sidewalk within the constraint of the law and it was really peaceful. It was effective too. Thugs, criminals and the violent have taken over the protests. And it is worldwide,not just in America. I was with the group until 10 minutes before it was broken up with tear gas & flash-bangs. It was entirely peaceful the whole time.
These people were angry, but peaceful.
Also, as a side note, early in the march I found out that 4 local cops had already been outed pretending to be protestors. One was later outed right in front of me.
And it wasn't just kids. There were middle aged people like me there (I'm 45).

I think they wanted to approach the convention center the evening McCain was to speak. They were blocked from crossing the bridge.
I have seen several instances where the police will drive a bus and park the bus across the street - during a permitted march, blocking the march.
They are itching to bash some heads and make these people an example to frighten future dissenters away.

Actually, this was reported at the Democratic Convention as well. I saw the head of I-Witness interviewed and she said she had never seen so many cops with so little identification. And yes, them being without external identification is illegal, it is not BS.

This was also covered on Democracy Now! this morning and one of the show's producers, Sharif Kouddous, reported that the police more or less steered the protesters onto this bridge. They blocked the side streets so people could not 'disperse' even though many wanted to leave.
I hope the events that occur lead to legal action that re-affirms the rights of a free press to do their jobs. If we lose the freedom to document events, then we may as well kiss YT and the rest of our freedoms goodbye.

The people were not 100% innocent. They chose to protest. But when the police moved in and the people tried to leave, the police blocked every street except the bridge. It's not that they moved just because the police said to, they moved because they had no choice. The police were pushing, and they had to move.
