@rsyyjh4n6r7xtygb45bte It's just a natural minor scale. The weirdness comes from note doubling on different strings- a bit like tuning your guitar by playing 5th fret then the next open string up. At speeds it sounds really effective as you can hear! Hope that makes sense! Look at a tab, you'll see it's nothing weird tonally =)

Aight, so I just found this and on first listen it's kinda cool. I'm open to downloading an album. But like, I had this Rush phase a few years back, being a drummer and all, and I bought like four of their albums, listened to them and loved them, only to grow up and realize that they're actually...kinda...bad... now i'm more into jazz, indie rock, and metal. I'm hearing a LOT of Rush in this song, and I'm worried if I get it that i'll be going down the same path again. can't do that

@KingHobum I've found Peart to be a very meticulous, conscientious composer. His solo exists solely because he recognizes that fans want a drum solo, not that he wants to perform one, and yet it constantly evolves as he tries to make that one piece greater. Look up the Buddy Rich Tribute, and note that he was disappointed in how well he performed. He does it like he means it as well as he can, and is famed for that. Do what you can, truthful to yourself, and the particular style doesn't matter.

@tbohm0 no, I totally agree. regardless of what I think of Rush as a band now, Peart is still an amazing artist (and Lee and Lifeson are good too, in terms of technical musicianship). I've seen his Rich Tribute solo and it's amazing. I'm just not a fan of the poppier progressive stuff, and I've grown to dislike most of Rush's songwriting. so ima stay away from LTE for now, listen to more experimental math rock and shit and see what happens :-/
