@ARTISTICLYSTUPID In my opinion the mood and pace of Host is much closer to the original Argentinian movie (Hombre Mirando Al Suderste, AKA Man Facing Southeast, dir Eliseo Subiela, 1986) than to K Pax.
What seemed a bit unlikely to me was the idea of a reigious alien, but that´s a topic too long to discuss here given the little space allowed by YT for each comment.
@blinky500 I agree with the idea that religious thinking is only a remnant of magical thinking characteristic of the early stages of human evolution. I'd be surprised to find a religious alien civilization since I suspect that´s a unique characteristic in human race as a result of our cultural evolution. Considering that most wars and killings in human history were due religious beliefs I don´t think religion would survive the developement of a peaceful technologically developed civilization.
Good film. But it makes me wonder, if they have been observing us for centuries, what exact standards do they hold for membership in their federation? To quote Groucho Marx, "I don't want to be part of any club that would have me as a member." Either that, or Chlo's people are some of the biggest open hearts for tough luck cases that I know of.
Great stuff, as usual, however, I think humans are smarter than you( by you I mean the message of this short) give them credit for. For instance, look at the movies; Mars Attacks, what's the first thing they did when they got here? They shot at us. Independance day, they tried to blow us up, Skyline, they wanted our brains, Battle LA, they shot at us, the day the earth stood still " save the earth by killing us". If were as peaceful as this guy was, then yeah, I think we can handle it.
@blinky500 I don't think aliens would destroy all religion on earth, as you say. Granted, concepts would have to be re-examined and ajusted, and you'd have to accept that those books were written by people trying to explain the universe as best they could with the knowlege they have, but I thing the beliefs would live on. To me, the problem isn't that people believe, but rather that they can't accept that others believe something else.
@blinky500 Well, I guess it depends on what you meant by debunk, which usually means to disprove totally, which means the whole thing is over: and I just don't quite agree. But I'm not trying to start a fight here, just my thoughts. And I assure you I'm not on crack. (weed maybe, but not crack)
it should have been that his faith was to destory humans and he was tasked to this mission by his superiors who want him to think otherwise...or somthing like that idk but this was damn good!
Liked the film, though I would have written the script a bit differently: Encouraged by Occupy Together and other movements (And free hugs! ^^), an alien federation see humanity's desire for self governance, personal responsibility and harmony with the planet becoming easier to transmit in an unfiltered way via the Internet. Against the backdrop of SOPA and general censorship dogging their efforts to get people to not panic and be ready, a sparse number of characters converge on the U.N.
@blinky500 That's cool bro. Like I said, the film was good, and the actors were good, and your right about the fear-based paradigm being the dominant mindset for most governments, and _most_ importantly that people look to fear-mongers for sustenance of their unhealthy world views and lifestyles... at least that's how it has been...
I agree with you completely about what would happen if aliens chose to visit this planet. District 9 is pretty accurate about the aftermath of something like that, in my opinion. I hope that this planet is ready someday, but it's definitely not ready now.
This was an outstanding presentation. There aren't many films that depict extra-terrestrials in a positive light; it's almost always aliens invading and trying to conquer us. I heavily agree that we still have a LONG way to go before we, as a species, are ready for such a visit. That is, if we don't annihilate each other in another world war before then.
This was awesome, when ever you make videos you do a good job at not just entertaining the viewer, but also teaching a lesson or just over all making us think.
It was interesting up until 07:55
