@WILDKATT1901 I agree. Ships on STO are pretty shitty looking for the most part. There are several that are half way decent. Most look like they were drawn on a napkin and are awkward looking. I don't play STO anymore because it is monotonous and to get a decent ship you have to sink soo much time into leveling up.
I completely disagree with those who find this design ugly. Granted not every detail is perfect but I actually like the fact this design uses the neck section differently. The nacelles also hark back to the TNG Enterprise D. So maybe it is nostalgia talking on that point, but I think it was a worthy design to be one of the final twenty in the contest.
never been a big fan of this ship, the way the nacelles, star drive and saucer sectin of the ship connect just loots a bit off, but definitely intruiging. your video and editing skills do make it look quite epic though. i do have to agree with kevservo, its not the enterprise.

Did you steal my design for the Enterprise-F? Jk!! But it's interesting that we had similar ideas about SOME of the features....like the main shuttlebay. But as one starship designer to another, I must say that you've done fine work, here.
the contest was rigged they already had one picked out from a pro who had done artwork for other projects, the contest was staged by cbs and cryptic to make people feel like they actually mattered to them....which they don't
@bigdaveking i actually called out the cryptic studios bunch, and the "winning" concept artist due to the fact the guy admitted. He worked for disney and other studios, by his own admission and when i put the question out there I asked him if he ever worked for cbs. He denied working for cbs and he only worked for the other studios as a sculpter. I personally took him at his word on that. But the winning design is not on the vote site. you can search for hours on that site and never see it.
Not true. I recall seeing Adam Ihle's entry while the contest voting was still open. I remember specifically because someone linked to it along with their other favorite entries. I certainly didn't think it winning material at the time, and openly questioned said person's artistic taste (not to mention sanity). However, it WAS there.
This model is now available for free download. Just visit the "final draft" link above and click "store" on the top right. Thanks again to everyone who helped me get all the details right, and to everyone who voted. She's as much yours as she is mine :)
I am so disappointed that you didn't win the contest. I admit that your design was my second favorite, but to see that it wasn't chosen really gets under my skin.
This ship is beautiful man. You did a grade - A job on it. Frankly you were robbed. CBS and Cryptic had better start listening to the fans... WE are what makes Star Trek work. WE are their base. Not some corporate asshole sitting in his $2000 chair, trying to find a new way to introduce time travel in the next series to completely ruin it. COME ON GUYS.. Give this man his due. The ship design is VERY interesting and flows well. This is the "F" for me man.. great job. YOUR the winner!!
There is hope; Dan Stahl said that he'd bring up the possibility with Marketing for a "Fan's Choice" award. Keep your fingers crossed.
The most common fan suggestion is to implement Fuzzy's ship as the Excelsior-A. It's a similarly prestigious command, but isn't burdened with the same baggage that the Enterprise has. The Fuzzyprise (Weixelsior?) would almost be a shoe-in as a successor, looking so much like the Excelsior herself, and it'd be a good continuity nod.
But, personally, I still see a lot of the old Excelsior in the engineering hull. And the nacelles are definitely not a maybe for me--they are clearly Excelsior. They're the right size proportional to the ship and are properly positioned, updated texture aesthetics and relocated pylons aside. Plus, it's a similarly tall ship (especially viewed from the front) and it looks like its going at transwarp speeds when sitting in Spacedock.
Real shame that this ship didn't get into the top 25 IMO. I might not see it as the next enterprise, but it's a fantastic, awesome model that deserves to be in STO regardless. Everyone who has access to the STO forums should make their opinions known in the following thread to get the ship in game, maybe as a science ship, regardless of the outcome of the competition.
People keep saying it looks like a science ship. I don't see it.
I think that comes from the (undeserved) association of Fuzzy's ship with the Oberth class, which it looks nothing like but is a notion that has been repeated enough times that it is stated as though it were fact. Really, it clearly draws the bulk of its inspiration from the Excelsior class, which is an unabashed Engineering/Tactical hybrid.
The true star trek fans know who made a viable option, Cryptic is just too afraid to take the visionary leap that you did. Thanks for a truly revolutionary design.
Oh, I don't think that's the problem. Cryptic chose the Grand Prize winner because they found it 'interesting' and thought they could take it interesting places.
Unfortunately, the 'split neck' that so enthralled Cryptic was a rather surprising lateral move in regards to ongoing Starfleet design trends, and is honestly questionable for the Federation at wartime. It looks rather fragile, and its utility is questionable. Not exactly a winning combination.
The winners model is nice enough I suppose, but it is interesting how his design doesn't appear in either the list of top votes or top rated. My opinion of Cryptic just took a major bashing.
They were never under any legal obligation to take the top votes or top ratings into account. Still, given that this contest was intended to attract Trek fans, disregarding fan opinion entirely when they chose the Top 25 was incredibly short-sighted of them, not to mention self-defeating.
Deciding Fuzzy's wasn't grand-prize winner material would have been one thing, but not even giving the clear crowd favorite any consideration is quite another.
@Agniumtheras No he didn't because on the last day of the contest. He was in 4th place on the LAST day of voting. Then after the voting should have been cut off. He managed to get to 1st place. @optimaloptimusprimus Fuzzy got more votes in 4 days than Chris Madden (2nd place) got in THREE WEEKS! He's CLEARLY the winner of the public vote! Dstahl is supposedly talking with marketing about adding him to the winners page as the "Fan Favorite." I just hope this ship gets added to the game!
I would have enjoyed this ship design in STO. I would enjoy seeing this ship design as a future Star Trek movie or show. CBS has absolutely lost its vision and focus when it comes to Star Trek.
I don't even feel like Cryptic looked at the ship. I think they just randomly picked ships out of the bucket, otherwise they would have seen this beauty of a ship!
CBS is as much to blame for the mishandling of this contest as Cryptic is. If anything, they're even more culpable for the blame. They were the ones who decided to subcontract the contest out to a third party (who promptly bungled it), they neglected to give Cryptic the go-ahead they were waiting for to plaster the web with advertisements, and ultimately the choice of the Grand Prize winner out of the top 25 was theirs.
That's the network for you. When they have a lot riding on something, they invariably micromanage things in a misguided attempt to ensure popularity and success. Predictably, this tends to have rather the opposite result. And the executives responsible never, ever learn, because if something goes wrong they can always pin the blame on an underling instead of owning up to their mistakes.
Both Cryptic and CBS are due a share of the blame.
CBS had the final say with choosing the five finalists out of the Top 25 and, out of those, the grand prize winner. However, Crypic was the one who choose the Top 25 in the first place, and their selection is, frankly, rather underwhelming. Current evidence suggests that they were looking for concept art to 'inspire' THEIR vision of the Enterprise-F, rather than a well-polished entry like Fuzzy's.
Although I personally felt that yours was the best of the lot, Fuzzy, I had expected that it probably wouldn't win for various internal reasons. That you didn't even get an honorable mention, however, despite it being such a crowd-favorite and an obvious shoe-in for the winner is a shock and a damn shame.
It just goes to show how tone-deaf the management has become these days.
Shawn im so sorry, your design did not make it, it was the best design by far and frankly i feel like you where robbed. Flat out. My opinion of cryptic has taken a severe hit due to how your design was handled.
Yea Fuzzy, I reall ywas hoping you'd win because THIS is a ship I wanted to fly (For some reaosn, it's backend reminds me of Star Ocean *Anime*, perhaps due to the slight design of it)
Pretty amazing design, and so much hard work, sorry you didn't make it into the top 25. Love the video, perhaps you could speak to some of the devs working on Star Trek Excalibur, which is the fan made sequel to Star Trek Bridge Commander. I bet they and future players would love to have your design available for use in their game.
@fuzzym0dem This is an OUTRAGE. Your design was the by far the best out of them all ,and I should know I looked at them all, The one that does win had better be THE BEST FETHING DESIGN I have ever seen or eles I am going to have serious word with Criptic.
@fuzzym0dem Dude you got jipped! This is the best design out there. What a load of crap. The winner's drawing looks like crap. I Vote they dissolve their staff and give you the award. Yours is the real winner!!! Friend me in the game if you play STO: @RunePenrod. Laterz!
2 questions.. what is the ship class? and the music you used, what is the name of that piece? you did an amazing job! i vote for you 100% those other guys look generic, the new enterprise has to be unique, and bigger, and better... great job dude.
You defenetely have that "original" design down. This looks epic. I remember seeing it at first, and thinking "WTF" but it grew on me. Wouldnt be suprised if it won, but we will find out soon enough.
My personal preference is for the Schimpf version. It just seems to take elements from my favorite Enterprises: The Original Refit, D, and E. But, yours isn't bad. She looks like a bird in flight, I like the placement of the nacelles. She just doesn't look like an Enterprise to me. All the same, congratulations. It's the dream of every scifi fan to design a Starship Enterprise. And now you are living it.
@BoAScorpius: Thanks :) Two Steps from Hell did seem perfect, though this track, "Freedom Fighter's" isn't my favorite, it just fit the clips best, and has been associated with Trek before. You should check out "To Glory." If I ever do a battle sequence, that's the song I'll use :)
@fuzzym0dem I have the Invincible album, which features both songs, hehe. All of the songs are amazing, with "Black Blade" as my personal favorite. :)
@BoAScorpius: Cool :) That's far and above their best album. Now that I know the songs I'm hearing them everywhere these days. Anytime they need an "epic" song for a TV or movie trailer, it seems 2SfH is the first one they call :) I'm looking forward to hearing their future work :)
actually I checked, you didnt win anything as of yet, and there was no popular vote. You show highest on most votes, but those are counted by both good and bad votes. On the rating chart, from what I have discovered, got very conveluted as the web site does not discount multiple voting from a single person. While I wish you well and luck in the contest.
@Mongodos The judge's decision won't be announced 'till April, but as I have both the most votes, and the highest rating, It's safe to say I won the "Public vote" or "Popular vote." (Thanks again for voting!!!) All this does is get me into the top 25 though, which will then be narrowed down to 4 via a rating/points system based 50% on originality, 25% on feasibility, and 25% on creativity, and from those four a single judge will pick the winner.
@fuzzym0dem The voting setup simple records both positive and negative votes, Now you had the most folks who took the time to vote for you and against your design. (which to me is silly should be 1 vote only and not repeatable) The sight is so screwy I would be dubious of any results, considering how badly the company doing the vote recording handled the site. I have seen diff ships in diff slots based on which day I visited the results.
@Mongodos: It's true that by themselves "Most Votes" and "Highest Rated" mean very little. One 5 star vote is higher rated"than a hundred 4 star votes, and a thousand 1 star votes would be the "Most Votes" That's why they have both categories, and why it's so important to cross reference them.
The formula is "votes x stars ÷ days available for voting= score" but the judges will review every entry
which is good, because some really excellent ones were overlooked. I'll post my favorites below:
@fuzzym0dem Aye, alot of good one,s and event he Cryptic artist according to dan cant agree on what they like best. That said, it is some impressive work Fuzzy, my hats off to you. I will keep my fingers crossed for you! :)
What did you think of for the ship class name? Might I suggest the "Han" class named after the Han Dynasty of China? (Basically China's version of Roman Empire, fell about the same time too...)
I actually quite like this design. I voted for it and is a close second to GKD's Tranquility class. I really like how the nacelles are reminicent of the Galaxy class but it has the sleek feel of the refit Constitution class or Sovereign class but not as skinny. It's bulkiness may seem "uncool" to some but it makes me feel like this ship was meant to go on long voyages of discovery like the Enterprise D.
This is generally awesome. The forms fill in the larger scale nicely vs. a bigger E. That center mass section reminds me of a galleon sailing ship, was that your intention? Also are the escape pods meant to be like delta-wing shuttles? If you're looking for any criticism to make it perfect, all I'd say is add more detailing and cut lines so the closeup at the beginning would better sell the size. What software are you using? How many hours in this? (FYI mine was entry #1400.) Is that TRON music?
*jaw drops* Holy mackrel! I think it's pretty well down to you and Tourangeau, but if it was based on the finished model, you got it in the bag. I'd dearly love to see this in the game!
Doesn't fit tradition ,but looks more realistic.

Shawn im so sorry, your design did not make it, it was the best design by far and frankly i feel like you where robbed. Flat out. My opinion of cryptic has taken a severe hit due to how your design was handled.

I wold really have loved to use this ship...my dreams are crushed... I am so sad that I will not be flying that beauty around T_T
Austindude3954 9 months ago
I loved this design, it really should have made it to at least Honorable Mention, it should have won!
RuinQueenofOblivion 9 months ago
This was the best, it shoulda won :'(

This ship SHOULD have won. >:(
ElwoodWF 9 months ago
Yea Fuzzy, I reall ywas hoping you'd win because THIS is a ship I wanted to fly (For some reaosn, it's backend reminds me of Star Ocean *Anime*, perhaps due to the slight design of it)
Suisfonia 9 months ago
Pretty amazing design, and so much hard work, sorry you didn't make it into the top 25. Love the video, perhaps you could speak to some of the devs working on Star Trek Excalibur, which is the fan made sequel to Star Trek Bridge Commander. I bet they and future players would love to have your design available for use in their game.

Update: Unfortunatly I didn't make it into the judge's top 25, but thanks again for your votes!
fuzzym0dem 9 months ago
@fuzzym0dem so sad about that :'(
Austindude3954 9 months ago
@fuzzym0dem say what?! Top 25?? Impossible. How did you find out? What did they say?
renegadejtx 9 months ago
@fuzzym0dem This is an OUTRAGE. Your design was the by far the best out of them all ,and I should know I looked at them all, The one that does win had better be THE BEST FETHING DESIGN I have ever seen or eles I am going to have serious word with Criptic.

@fuzzym0dem Dude you got jipped! This is the best design out there. What a load of crap. The winner's drawing looks like crap. I Vote they dissolve their staff and give you the award. Yours is the real winner!!! Friend me in the game if you play STO: @RunePenrod. Laterz!
RunePenrod 9 months ago
@fuzzym0dem I didnt know about this contest soon enough, i wish i could have voted! this ship is glorious.
ThatsMrFrank 4 months ago
That is very cool! I would like this to be the next Enterprise, and have a class of it for myself! :P I like the shuttlebay bit that is really cool
Austindude3954 9 months ago
Do you know if you've won yet?
Lightray110 9 months ago
@Lightray110 Unfortunately No. Something is pending between Cryptic and CBS before they can announce the winner. Should be any time though.
fuzzym0dem 9 months ago
As a fellow StardestroyerBBS member, you rocked this design!! If it doesn't win, STO doesn;t know what they are missing!!
ZGundam64 10 months ago
Absolutely excellent. Any chance we'll get to play with this mesh?
ocerg1111 10 months ago
Love it! I don't play STO myself, but is this ship was put into it i'd get it! Whoever made this did a great job!

how did you make that
thecomputerschool1 10 months ago
@thecomputerschool1: Autodesk Maya, Adobe Premier, and After Effects :)
fuzzym0dem 10 months ago
2 questions.. what is the ship class? and the music you used, what is the name of that piece? you did an amazing job! i vote for you 100% those other guys look generic, the new enterprise has to be unique, and bigger, and better... great job dude.
Lightris 11 months ago
@Lightris Ship class is "Frontier" music is "Freedom Fighters" by 2 steps from hell :)
fuzzym0dem 11 months ago
You defenetely have that "original" design down. This looks epic. I remember seeing it at first, and thinking "WTF" but it grew on me. Wouldnt be suprised if it won, but we will find out soon enough.
Johnnyboyinthehouse 11 months ago
My personal preference is for the Schimpf version. It just seems to take elements from my favorite Enterprises: The Original Refit, D, and E. But, yours isn't bad. She looks like a bird in flight, I like the placement of the nacelles. She just doesn't look like an Enterprise to me. All the same, congratulations. It's the dream of every scifi fan to design a Starship Enterprise. And now you are living it.

I must say, that's an amazing looking ship.
Also, Two Steps from Hell FTW
BoAScorpius 11 months ago
@BoAScorpius: Thanks :) Two Steps from Hell did seem perfect, though this track, "Freedom Fighter's" isn't my favorite, it just fit the clips best, and has been associated with Trek before. You should check out "To Glory." If I ever do a battle sequence, that's the song I'll use :)
fuzzym0dem 11 months ago
@fuzzym0dem I have the Invincible album, which features both songs, hehe. All of the songs are amazing, with "Black Blade" as my personal favorite. :)
BoAScorpius 11 months ago
@BoAScorpius: Cool :) That's far and above their best album. Now that I know the songs I'm hearing them everywhere these days. Anytime they need an "epic" song for a TV or movie trailer, it seems 2SfH is the first one they call :) I'm looking forward to hearing their future work :)

i would call it enterprise class starship
perryl08 11 months ago
actually I checked, you didnt win anything as of yet, and there was no popular vote. You show highest on most votes, but those are counted by both good and bad votes. On the rating chart, from what I have discovered, got very conveluted as the web site does not discount multiple voting from a single person. While I wish you well and luck in the contest.
Mongodos 1 year ago
@Mongodos The judge's decision won't be announced 'till April, but as I have both the most votes, and the highest rating, It's safe to say I won the "Public vote" or "Popular vote." (Thanks again for voting!!!) All this does is get me into the top 25 though, which will then be narrowed down to 4 via a rating/points system based 50% on originality, 25% on feasibility, and 25% on creativity, and from those four a single judge will pick the winner.
fuzzym0dem 11 months ago
@fuzzym0dem The voting setup simple records both positive and negative votes, Now you had the most folks who took the time to vote for you and against your design. (which to me is silly should be 1 vote only and not repeatable) The sight is so screwy I would be dubious of any results, considering how badly the company doing the vote recording handled the site. I have seen diff ships in diff slots based on which day I visited the results.
BTW Love the design! GL on the contest! :)
Mongodos 11 months ago
@Mongodos: It's true that by themselves "Most Votes" and "Highest Rated" mean very little. One 5 star vote is higher rated"than a hundred 4 star votes, and a thousand 1 star votes would be the "Most Votes" That's why they have both categories, and why it's so important to cross reference them.
The formula is "votes x stars ÷ days available for voting= score" but the judges will review every entry
which is good, because some really excellent ones were overlooked. I'll post my favorites below:
fuzzym0dem 11 months ago
@fuzzym0dem Aye, alot of good one,s and event he Cryptic artist according to dan cant agree on what they like best. That said, it is some impressive work Fuzzy, my hats off to you. I will keep my fingers crossed for you! :)

hey, have to admit some good artistry there. nice model too. GL on the final voting!

Not bad design, I think the stardrive section is a tad fat but it's all good, the Torpedoes at the end look like Photons but sound like Quantums o.O

What did you think of for the ship class name? Might I suggest the "Han" class named after the Han Dynasty of China? (Basically China's version of Roman Empire, fell about the same time too...)
Shadx27 1 year ago
@Shadx27 Class name would be "Frontier Class" named both for the "Final Frontier" and for my home state, the "Last Frontier" :)
fuzzym0dem 1 year ago
Okay this looks rather amazing. I could actually see this as a cgi model used for a new series.. If ST had not died with Ent...

Winner is announced in April. It's gonna be a loooong wait...

You, Sir, have my vote.
dethduck 1 year ago
I actually quite like this design. I voted for it and is a close second to GKD's Tranquility class. I really like how the nacelles are reminicent of the Galaxy class but it has the sleek feel of the refit Constitution class or Sovereign class but not as skinny. It's bulkiness may seem "uncool" to some but it makes me feel like this ship was meant to go on long voyages of discovery like the Enterprise D.
Maphisto86 1 year ago
The lag when it's going across the screen is very noticeable. I'd try to fix that.
Ccs1989 1 year ago
Galleon? A little bit yeah.
The escape pods are meant to look reminiscent of the starfleet insignia. Should have used separate objects rather than a bump map.
Used Maya, Premier, and After Effects.
Hours... 150ish? Give or take 50? I multi-task.
The music is "Freedom Fighters" by "Two Steps from Hell"
Thanks for your votes! I think she has a shot :)

@poilboiler err...care to provide an obvious artist who would probably welcome it a little more constructive criticism besides "Not very good"?
For the record - I love the way this video ends. very cool stuff all the way around.
