Using the disc that came with the router on my computer I set up my network. now my playstation,laptop and even my smartphone connects when I turn them on in the house. Its easy, save yourself the 20 bucks because you would need it to buy a router

For all those who got their LAN connected but did not got internet on, you need to configure you modem such as APN name, Username and Password. All of those are suppose to be in perfect order. In case youve done with that and still facing problem then its an exception, seek an expert for help.

anyway for people that don't understand the yellow and Grey cables are "Ethernet" cables which connect your PC/XBOX/PS3/Printer to the internet.

You cannot connect 2 PCs together using this cable. There is a different cable for that...

USBs are also not used for network connections. You must use an adapter for USB connections!

on some routers you can connect to your router by typing in either 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 into the URL of your web browser!

Of course, that would be a waste in the adapter. also you don't need a gaming router any router would suffice but the gaming router that grimreap suggested is one that would work at best performance. $200 is too deep for me, you could get a router for $30 a bestbuy saving yourself $170. @kcrusaders1 Its a network cable. What's happening here is that internet is connected to the DSL box via the black cable which is plugged into the back of the DSL box. What the yellow network cable does is take the internet connection from the DSL box and pass it to the wireless router. Now you can wirelessly connect from your PC to the wireless router (which is connected to the internet via the DSL box because of the yellow cable) Or you can physically connect PC's to the to the wireless router

@kcrusaders1 the yellow wire [isn't always yellow, can be blue, clear, white, etc] is a called a Cat5 cable. it is necessary because that cord goes from your modem to the router to tell it to feed internet to your wireless devices. you can find one cheap around five bucks on Amazon :]

@Condeycon usually personal homes do not have ethernet jacks in the wall... u only find that in offices or schools...if ur in a office or school, yes that will work since the router and modem is probably somewhere in the building, if this is in ur home..chances are its a phone jack plug and not ethernet

However, modem speed doesn't effect router speed.. the router effects router speed.. if ur router is old and is slow..even if ur modem is fast..the router will still slow everything down...if ur router is 5 years old...sure..go buy a new one...u can score a nice B/G/N router at 300MPBS for under $50. You will surely notice a difference
