everybody respect elton john in this show and applause at the end . dont say bullshits !

elton john don t speak french and it s not easy to communicate with him it s the only prob in this show for drucker the presentator

  • un artiste au milieu de clowns

  • excellent !

  • Very good...pfff, this is live 100%, forget timing and note mistakes..this is not a studio you know....i love it..

  • I didn't know Chris Evans could play the piano!

  • too funny. this goes on and on and the four dopes are bored out of their minds. each of them wondering how many times guy gave it ej in the can.

  • As a fan, I remember seeing this live broadcast. In reviewing the video I realized, much later, as Drucker thinks Elton is a blockhead, that Souchon bored, as Clavier and Jeanne Mas wonder what they're doing. Elton is just too good.

  • my favourite elton hit..excellent

  • beautiful version, lovely

  • wow ca date de plus de 20 ans !!!!!

  • @mikeaurand His name is Elton John.

  • Fantastic

  • What a performance! 4 very lucky people.

  • my god he looks ill here, compared to how he looks now even with a wig, great musician

  • That piano needs tuning!

  • @mistofoles

Its not the piano, its the sound quality taken by the old camera.

Elton would never perform with an untuned piano.

  • What the fuck...is this guy saying Elton John wrote the song for his friend Guy the gorilla after visiting London zoo??

  • It's a nice demo of improv where he varies the written tune repeatedly and throughout the performance while holding the whole thing together.

Just as important: who's the woman?! She's very distracting. :)

  • @iatsd That's a woman?? I thought it was a transvestite!

  • what does that mean

  • Comment removed

  • Was that Dan Quayle in the front row?

  • @Bodebodango random but good call

  • He puts so much emotion into it!

  • This song makes my eyes water every time I hear it.

  • Elton is a Genius!

  • It's nice but get some perspective: it's a repetitive sequence that he embellishes with lots of 'licks' he's picked up over the years, tops it off with some self-indulgent 'meaning man!' et voila - stupid people think it is the work of genius. Elton knows the truth.

  • No matter what you or someone else THINK - what you FEEL is the only thing that matters!

So if you FEEL that it is the work of genius - enjoy it, if not - don't try to express the opinion for all.

  • @liborsionko, Wow... this is really the most WRONG opinion ever. Melody is somehow repetitive, but it's original and great. You are judging Elton's beautiful song based on such prejudice without background, while there is so much crappy, simple, uninventive and repetitive music today. No matter how simple you think this melody is, music is not mathematic, music is art for soul from soul. Not for sure one of Elton's best melodies, but still very beautiful. He is genius no matter what anyone think

  • ok liborsionko - you come up with a timeless melody that seems to move people in a unique way. I don't even like Elton John that much (more of an alternative music fan), but this is just such a brilliant piece of music. Maybe Elton wrote it quickly, and yes it is repetitive but it's beautiful, sad, and wonderfully melodic.

So, go sit at your piano, come up with an instrumental that people will still be listening to in 30 years from now. Oh yeah, add some 'licks'.

  • he looks about 60 here

  • hes 42 in this

  • Perhaps; But in France, he didn't says that. BUT, I don't speak and understand english !!!!!!. I think you ( samOxin ) you say the truth. Thanks

  • Question: Who was the song "Song for Guy" written for?Answer: At the time Elton was recording the "A Single Man" album, in 1978, a messenger boy for Rocket Records (Elton's company) called Guy Burchett was struck by a car and killed while riding his bicycle. "Song for Guy" was written for him: from Chopin1986.

  • always wear a helmet

  • well... your warning / suggestion late for 31 years...

  • PLEASE help me find the original version with orchestra ! What is the NAME of ALBUM ? or it was single ?

  • the name of this album is : A SINGLE MAN. Only version piano. During writting this song, His " coursier " is dead. And the name of his " coursier " ( in french ) was : Guy....the title of this song !!!

  • Thanks v.m. ! But I've got another version of history of this masterpiece...It's from EJ fan Chopin1986. He says...

  • this is without doubt the most beautiful (solo) version

  • pure magic,

i cant wait to see him perform live...

  • GENIO...GENIO...GENIO!!!!!

  • Świetne.

  • Essas mãos valem ouro...parabéns Elton!!!!

  • Oulah ! Collector et en Français SVP !

    Merci d'avoir Uploadé !

  • thank you! it's very pleasant to read that.

  • precisely! this is elton john, not unusual.

  • A very close friend of went to be with Jesus yesterday morning. He loved this song ( as do I ). Joel, I'm playing this for you tonight. Rest in peace with the Lord my friend. You will be missed by many.

  • Elton's a fine composer of instrumentals (Funeral for a Friend is magnificent) and i'd be happy for more in future.

  • why Elton thought dying his hair white and wearing Harry Carry's glasses would be a flattering look is beyond me. He looks 75 years old here

  • Elton is like Dr Who he's been through how many regenerations now ?

  • HAHAHA great commemt! *thumbs up*

  • those people standing around are not worthy of this kind of talent!

  • you say that but you don't know them. the presenter (michel drucker) knows a lot of people who have also a great talent, and one of the guest, alain souchon, has also talent.

I agree with you, elton is very talented, and there are some french people who are too. (not a lot, that's sure).

  • You are correct...I don't know them. But, I can perceive a jealous, resentful, bitter and envious faces when I see them! Those people standing around are being crushed by Elton's presence....and it shows in there uncomfertable countanance! It has nothing to do with French people.....you misunderstood my comment!

  • Actually, those idiot's standing around waited for Elton to shake their hands first....fuck them! It's stupid assholes like that, that give French people a bad name! But like I said before it's not about the French....it's about plain jealously! Fuck them!

  • KEEP COOL! Be sure they still today think of this whenever they listen to Eltons music. And be sure they are aware they met the greatest singer/songwriter then!

  • When John Lennon gave his first interview after the Beatles break-up he said the first new sound that captured his interest was that of Elton John singing "Your Song". Lennon welcoming Elton off a plane in L.A. knelt on the ground before him chanting "No, no, it's him, it's him, it's Elton!" Lennon was indicating his approval of the world's most successful British soloist! Those people standing around him here didn't even have the respect to shake Elton's hand! He had to make the first move!

  • jealous resentful bitter and envious faces? that's a lot!!! and there are all french, so you can't say something like that....

I don't speak about french people, I think about them. I don't think they were like that. they were ill at ease but admiring. who cant' you in that case?

  • This was a good version of a great tune, what else can be said!!!!

Stupide***

  • As if YOU could even come close to playing that!

  • and? what's the problem?

  • elton has done several instrumentals for his studio albums and soundtracks... included are- carla etude, the man who never died, funeral for a friend, and lord choc. ice goes mental. i've always liked this one the most, esp. the original album version on the Single Man album. i enjoyed this video...here in the U.S., this song wasn't a hit like elsewhere. the radio stations wouldn't have known what to do with it. thank god i had the record.

  • probly the best version i have listend 2

  • he also did funeral for a friend.

  • this is the best instrumental he've done because....huh this is the only one he made!

  • I didn't know Elton could speak French.

  • I think it's difficult, but his sentence is nearly perfect!!!

  • Quite moving...

  • Song for Guy was a hit around the world in early 79

  • Isn't it weird how damn old Elton looked back almost 20 years ago compared to now? Amazing what years of drug abuse and dying your hair grey will do

  • you think the grey is dye? hmmm.........

  • wonderful melody rarely I heard it with such a new quality of playing, thanks!

  • Wow thanks great quality

  • thank you!

    great vid!!!

  • One of the best versions i have seen.

  • Awesome!

  • Thanks, omg, THANKS!

  • Wow, what a performance! It really shows off Elton's piano skills. The best version of Song For Guy period.

  • Thank you, this is my favorite song.
