@HeadDog101 The mare does to care about her foal she just wanted the sac out she only left it like that because she new it was safe from any harm and if you notice she does go to it nickering witch proves she cares about it or she wouldnt have gone near it at all
i have never seen a cesarean but if it was needed the mare would most likely have to go into a clinic. Normally if the foaling is so bad that we cannot get it out the foal is sacrificed to save the mare. Normally by the time you get to this stage the foal is dead anyway. It has to be dimembered to remove from the mares birth canel
this was so amazing to watch for me and my partner as we are about to have our first foal in a few weeks we cant wait was nice to see you letting your mare do it all naturally many thanks vikki and debbie north east uk
Thanks, I was so curious. I do see other foals on YT "get their legs" sooner, but they are not as leggy? Does it matter-the size of body+/or legs? Do they all sit-up like that too? I didn't see any intervention-not that it was needed, but I do see many people al-most "pulling" these babies out (assist?) Does unnecessary involvement affect the horses in any way? Thanks for your time, love your country! BTW what breed are your horses?
sometimes intervention is necessary we attend all of the mares foalings and although we try to let the mare give birth herself some times they need help but gentle pulling only when she pushes. Some times foals are upside down or have a leg bent which needs immediate help to turn around.
@mido851114 Hey, no, Caesarean section isn't an option outdoors, and usually even with a sterile clinic available, by the time you realise that simply manipulating the foal inside the uterus is not enough, it's too late for the foal unfortunately
Actualy, this filly was doing very well considering she wasnt even 20 minutes old yet.Usualy it takes 30-60 mins for a foal to stand. Then if you look at how long it takes us to even sit up which she did the moment she was born-its remarkable how foals handle their legs that are two times too big for them
thats so cute the it just kind jumps around at first :)

@HeadDog101 Have YOU ever given birth to a foal?! Bet you'd pause for a minute and rest too! This is perfectly normal for a foaling

The foal was so adorable, the way she kept stumbling...still, amazing that what takes a person one year takes a horse one hour!

Does this foal ever get his/her legs? How's she doing now? Sure seemed to be a struggle.
