I don't think she left the band. Just took time off to do the Raising Sand thing with Robert Plant. I think we'll be hearing more of Alison, Dan, Barry, Jerry & Ron as a band in the future. Sierra would make a fine addition though.
This was from 2 years ago....her voice has matured but even there the timbre of her voice is easy on the ear and her pitch is spot on....its a little slow for this song and her phrasing then was a tad choppy, but that all comes in time and experience- the tools vocally and instrumentally are there....she can pick the snot out of a flat top too....heard her pick up some cheap dreadnought and play the heck out of it....give that girl a Martin....voice like an angel....plays like a demon...
@operhoot This series of clips from MM Jubilee are from when she was around 14 or so. She was 2 years away from recording her debut album at age 16. Over the past few years her vocals have improved a great deal (as her larynx has matured). Not in Alison territory yet, but she's got range, pitch and good phrasing on Secrets. As for her pickin' - she's second to none! And her character is as beautiful as her playing. Sierra's a cultural treasure from Tennessee.
well, in full truth------ her singing isn't really marketable- however, her instramental ability is well worth a studio musician... very accomplished,, and I feel sad for her that her voice really isn;t there... that is just unfair, for she is a VERY even keeled young lady and one hell of an inspiration and fantastic credit to the human race....I have listened to her on other videos and its still the same... maybe if someone took her in private and taught her what she needs on singing...
That's just simply not true. She's an excellent instrumental player. Excellent. I'm a fan. The singing is just not that good. There's nothing wrong with me for thinking it's bad. You'll notice I've left lots of positive comments on lots of bluegrass videos. On this one, the vocals are just kinda bad. It doesn't mean I don't like her or that I have a hearing problem--it's just not really that good, especially when you put it next to an old AKUS version.
i see what you're saying, but she is only 16... her voice probably isn't even fully developed physically, and she's only had a few years to harness it. Plus, you're comparing her to quite a heavyweight band there, union station.
just thought I'd add, Alison Krauss (who inspired Sierra to do this one) recorded her first album at the age of 15, and you just have to listen to "too late to cry" to know she was born to sing...
Saying that, I've bought Sierra's debute album, and it's excellent, a real treat intrumentally & vocally...She just might have been having an off day...
bluegrasslovely: I must agree that Sierra Hull's album SECRETS is excellent. I've only heard probably about half of the album so far, but she is an outstanding musical artist.
I'm a real fan of Sierra's guitar and mando playing. I hope her family and supporters provide her with the resources to improve her vocals over the next year as her natural growth continues.

obviously this comment won't be popular, but she could have picked another alison krauss song to sing where she didn't so airy and strained. she sounds like someone singing to themself in the shower rather than someone on stage with a really great band, which they are.
Well for people who want the easy way to play it, it's in C. I just forgot to add the capo fret to the comment. Not many people play in D on the guitar, because it doesn't sound as good. You'll notice Cody and Justin have the guitars on C-2 like I mentioned before.
this is awesome.

Seeing that Alison left Union Station , Sierra should replace her. Could be a great group.

Wow! I wish I could have been able to play like that when I was her age. Play on!
HisDudeness1983 4 years ago 3
I Wish I could play like that period lol...The chords are C, Dm, F, G, C if anybody wants to chord along on the guitar or whatnot.
bigdjindustriez 4 years ago 3
The chords are actually D,Em,G,A,D, but on the guitar capoed at the 2nd you are right, and in Allison's version, it is capoed at the 4th.
