  • To Jackdaw Tree, actually, this is not a great performance. Don't get me wrong, there is much to praise the performer for her performance but, a glaring error in the first two Tate Shuto Uke, they should start from over the shoulder, not under the arm. A good performance yes, but if the best you've ever seen, then i suggest you open your eyes a little :-)

  • Osu. Well done..

  • One of the best performances...well balance stances and well define postures and blocks with great definitions between slow-fast movements...Congratulations!

  • Wait a min.....how come she didnt make any sound effects or a lot of screaming like they do in America?

    :-)

  • that was just perfect,

  • Great Job! I have learned so much by watching your kata! Thank you.

  • Mina Yamazaki is awesome :D

  • Osu!

  • Solid kata performance. She has great stances and sets a good pace.

  • Perfect Gojushiho Sho well done.

  • It's the best Shotokan Gojushiho Sho performance I've ever seen; kibadachi to die for! I really like the rhythm - slower than usual, very feminine, but with a lot of power. I am learning this kata right now and I definitely will use Mina's performance for fine tuning.

  • @JackdawTree I agree with you. She is awesome, however; she is a Ryobu-kai / Shindo Jinen Ryu Karate-do Karateka.

  • @JackdawTree

comon now, its pretty good but the best????

  • @JackdawTree - I agree that's it a good kata. Personally I'm sick & tired of seeing people either rush or take an eternity with kata, so I'm with you on the tempo too. There are comments below about the tate shuto needing to start from the shoulder. I can't speak about Ryobukai but SKIF do them from the shoulder (on top of the arm) & JKA do them from under the arm. No big deal. If you are interested in top shelf kata try Googling JKA Gojushiho Sho, where there are some even better kata.

  • That was beautiful, thank-you.

  • Amazing! In my 19 years of Karate under Shiron Kempo and Ryu Kyu kempo, I have not seen Gojushiho performed so gracefully! It has the power, yet the timing is so perfect, I bow to you.

  • Excellent kata performance.

  • Very nice Mina Yamazaki. I would love to show / introduce you to a kata from the Shorinjiryu Kenkokan system, most probably of the same family - origin as Gojushiho sho; "Kata Nijiushi ho", whereas the movements try to emulate the spirit of the crane and a snake. You may question, "what is the style of a crane and a snake"? To answer this...as I mentioned, I would love to introduce you to "Kata Nijiushi ho"! I'm sure you would perform it beautifully!

  • Apologies...the Shorinjiryu Kenkokan Kata Nijiushi ho, is very much different to that of the Shotokan version. This is not to compare, but only to point out and respect that they are two distinct kata; having the same name.

  • I've been watching this for a while now and I've found it easy to learn the kata from such a good example. Thank you!

  • This lady has grrrreeeat kime, outstanding techniques and tons of style. There is something about Japanese Masters that the rest of us just don't posses, period. They're simply in a league of their own.

  • To any whiners, this kata is supposed to be slow. It's supposed to be a combination of the quick and repetitive pecking of a woodpecker, and the staggering, strong but hesitant drunk man.

Hence why some parts are slow and deceptive, and when the opponent is caught, they are hit strong and fast.

  • Hell, I like it!!

  • I attend this dojo. Mina occasionally teaches when she's there. :DDD I'm so sadly dissapointed she didnt win the US open.

  • Just perfect, grip with the floor,no knee wobble, good kime & eye focus, breathing look's ok, no extra foot/hip or hand moves in there, very stable & strong kata.Loved it, and would welcome Mina into any of my dojo's.OSS

  • excellent mai geri. finally someone got them right. great techinique too.

  • so many people think they know so much bout karate they take it for a month and they know everything just like some of the posters here

  • "Sound effects with the feet are not required"

Those aren't sound effects genius. Many martial arts - aside from the crap you probably train in - will teach you that power can be generated from many places. The power from a stomp can generate through the body through the hands. Look at some shaolin techniques and you'll see what I'm talking about. So with that said, stop giving advice to someone who outranks, has far more knowledge and out trains you.

  • Wow. Haven't seen Mina in years. She's gotten a whole lot better. Keep it up Mina! Greet your sister for me.

  • llanosdesignz -- excuse me.. but im pretty sure you have not clue who her father/instructor is. btw- he is an 7 dan in JKA so what are you? and if you wanted to know who he is.. his name is Kyoshi Yamazaki and he knows more about traditional karate than you ever ever will. soo know what your talking about before you get all high and mighty.

  • "Need to learn to move faster in an acual combat situation" and "she needs to find a qualified instructor"...Are you people kidding! You idiots do not have the right to critque a person with this kind of talent. Mina has more talent in her little finger than 99.9% of our so called "american martial artist." You people should feel lucky she will share her talent with you in the first place.

If I were her I would remove my video's and let you people continue to live in your dream worlds.

  • mn. You attend that dojo?

  • occassionally

  • This is the problem with the new MMA world, everyone thinks that martial arts is all about fighting. They fail to recognize the benefits of kata. They can "ground and pound" all they want, It will take them by quite a surprise when they are really hit by a well trained punch. People should understand and appreciate the years of training it takes to get to the place where Mina is. Although I do not know her personally, I have seen her at tournaments and have great respect for her and her family.

  • Very good!! One of the best I"ve seen for a long time in fact.

  • I like her style

  • Great potential, Can be the best at it.I agree with llanosdesignnz. Some areas need looking at.e.g Sound effects with the feet are not required.I suggest look at Kancho Kanazawa and make those small adjustments required, other great potential and great stance.

  • Ilanosdesignz - would you be so kind to show us how it's supposed to be done?

  • obviously you don't know her or her father.she doesn't need an instructor. I wish i could see you doing a kata.Good luck.

  • LOL LLanosdesignz, you are obviously a spectator in life, with no real appreciation for the true traditional martial arts. Good luck with your deisgnz.

  • @llanosdesignz :)))))))) =)) =)) =)) :)) ......... From the technique view this is perfect!!!! And I'm not doing Ryobu-Kai !! It is performed a litle slower but sill is the best gojushiho on youtube!! This lady is very prepared!! Respect! *****

  • Excellent long deep stances. Fluid, smooth and quick moves. Great timing. Very nice kata.

  • I'm from Aruba , and i am a PURPLE BELT from Japan Karate-do Ryobu-Kai !!! and i luv KARATE !!!!
