  • Thank you sooooo much for sharing this video! I cried for last 3 min of this movie. Although I've been a runner, marathoner, I broke my back a few months ago and in process of rehab. I just signed up for my first triathlon, feeling excited and scared. Your story gave so much inspiration. Thank you!!!!

  • @greenteatimeful being excited and scared is what makes it worthwhile

  • respect! is all I can say :D

  • RESPECT!!!!!! FULL RESPECT:)

  • Hey John, not only can you "brag for the rest of your life" but you have changed for the rest of your life, CONGRATS! very amazing!!

  • awesome!!!! YAY!

  • you know what... big respect on what you did... i know what i means to do an ironman because i did several (it is an addiction)... I actually believe you did 2 in one... loosing wheigth and do the sport... just great...

  • @MrIronman4fun It is interesting to look back on it all. I have a friend doing her first sprint tomorror, she is pretty nervous (as was I). And she has done a marathon. Perspective is an interesting thing.

  • I'd love to go to the gym and start exercising, but I can't find a way to balance an ashtray on the Stairmaster.

  • @TheLakemann Too bad Billy Mays died...I can see the infomercial now for an invention that allows smoking while in a treadmill :-)

  • 6.13 living the dream! :)

  • Simply put, incredible. Good for you.

  • Congrats brother! Did my first sprint last year and am eyeballing Louisville 2012.

  • bravo, brother. Keep up the good work. You are an inspiration to many.

  • What an example ! Your story is juste unbelievable John.

  • I happy cried too the last 1km of my first ironman 3 weeks ago. The thing I noticed throughout the video was the thinner you got the happier you looked. Well done John you are a true inspiration xo

  • Hi. The weight loss alone is spectacular. It is quite easy to see in the pictures how much happier you are.

  • @PlanCartesien Thank you, for me the weight loss was mearly a something I needed to do to acheive my dream. I am an Ironman now and nothing can ever take that ways.

  • very nice - congratulations!

  • Man I blubbed a little watching that. What a transformation!

Did you get the Post Ironman blues afterwards?

Are you going to do another one?

Come over and do one in Europe. You'll love it!

  • Great Job Nice weight loss and training... I have lost 65 and am in training for my first triathalon...

  • @fire2812 Thanks, enjoy it and have fun.

  • Thanks for showing me that even being 100 pounds overweight with a tweeking ankle that becoming an Ironman is still within reach. I just need to plan, execute then do it!!

  • @soulfuldreamer Yes anyone without a "major" physical disability (and some even with) can do it.

  • You know, Uncle John, I've watched this a few times now. And each time I cry. It was your success that kept me from getting depressed about getting fat during my pregnancy. There were times I would start to think about it but then I'd remind myself of how much you had accomplished. One day, and hopefully soon, I'll follow in your footsteps and do the Ironman. I'm not a strong swimmer, but I think if you could run through your injury I can swim through my fears. You are an amazing inspiration!

  • @snazzygirl23 You just made me cry...thanks

  • @jwbrown1969 Haha I just realized you can really hear Aunt Susan. "Way to go John!" You should start training again and maybe we can do one together. :)

    Jordan

  • This is very impressive sir. Good luck .. and thank you.

  • thanks for the inspiration.

  • Great Video! congrats

  • good good good that's really goood you inspired me to loss wheight congratulation from italy :D

  • You are an inspiration.

I have also a dream to

    become an ironman.

    Go John!

  • Good for you. Impressive and inspiring story. I'm also training for an Ironman taking place in Sept. 2010, but I have the "willies" about it. I'm afraid I won't ba able to finish the darn thing. What did you tell yourself during the race to keep you motivated?

  • @velomanmtl I told myself "..I am out of the boat and will not fear the wind.." it is a reference to Matthew 14:22-14:33. The last thing I did on the beach was to pray those words...I stayed focused on it all day. I also told myself to relax and enjoy the moment...and I did and I never had a negative thought the whole, perfect day.

  • @velomanmtl

I did my very first Ironman this july. My first goal was: to get to the start line.

So when I was on standing on the beach, right before the start, I was so happy I didn't worry about the rest.

I was just proud that I had made it so far.

Ironman is a looon day. You never know what's going to happen.

So if I hadn't made it: I'd just tried again ;)

    Good luck to you!!!!!

  • im so proud of you!!! i watch this video...to keep my motivation going strong! thanks bro!

  • John, great respect for your achievement losing the weight and finishing the Ironman. I weigh 20st and have already lost 2st. I am planning on finishing an Ironman in August this year and have planned some shorter tris before hand. Well done and your an inspiration.

  • Congrats Man!

  • Thank you so much for this very inspirational video. Hope you have balance and happiness in your life.

  • Often times we find on youtube just entertainment...but coming across your page was just inspiration. Thank you for sharing your amazing story.

  • People like you are much more iron men than the PROs that have everything to support them easily in their training. Congratulations, YOU ARE an IM.

  • so awsome and inspirational, thanks fo making an sharing this!!

  • hey brother, jst completed my first marathon today, just wanna let you know how much respect i have for people like you.

  • Hey, congratulations! I have the same dream and a lot less to overcome. I only need to lose 10-15 lbs. and I've been doing 5k's without any physical pain like you have with your ankle. I recently quit smoking and I need videos like this to keep me motivated and focused. Thanks, John.

  • Hi sir, I am doing the Austria Ironman 2010 that takes place on July. I am training for a marathon ..I have serious pain in my knees. i am resting a little and doing physiotherapy. I hope this will get better so i can start training soon and do the half Ironman in Israel called "The Emek Hayarden half ironman".. than 2 months later to do the Austria full ironman. I hope i get there. I have a good plan, i'm eating good and i am not extreme, i hope i can do it!!.This is my only goal now.Thank you

  • You are an inspiration, I too have embarked on my dream. I WILL do an IRON MAN next year. You did an amazing job.

  • Which Ironman...I would love to track you online.

  • Hi, i'm Adam and i am from Israel.

I registered for and Ironman next year.

Training is daily and very hard.

Stories like yours, and like the father and his son makes me, and i think everybody else understand- that there are no limits for anyone & and for anything.

Thank you for another story proving that.

    Adam

  • Which Ironman...I would love to track you online.

  • Hey John ... Congrats! You're an inspiration to me and many others. I too lost a bunch of weight (80 lbs) and have now ran 3 marathons and a bunch of halves. I'm looking to do a 70.3 in July. You can bet I'll be thinking of your story. Thanks for sharing (and living) it.

  • Thank you...what 70.3 are you doing?

  • John, this is a great video. I posted on today's blog entry to share it with my friends.

Keep up the good work. Maybe I'll see you at a race one day.

  • I was saying, "Oohh no" when you fell off your bike. Then later cried when you cried during your last mile. Beautiful job on your video. I've only done a mini-tri two weeks ago, and I'd say I'm pretty fit, but YOU, WOW, had the determination to do the BIG ONE....well done!

  • "Oohh no" was the least of what I said...I actually threw my bike helmet at the car. The lady driving was very nice and called 911, she was very concerned about me...no hard feelings

  • WOW! well done!!!!!!!

  • Nothing is impossible and you proved it! Fantastic video and quite inspiring. CONGRATULATIONS!! How's that ankle doing?

  • It hurts :-S

  • Wow, thats amazing.... now i have more hope to finish my ironman in 5 years.... keep on running!

  • Why wait so long? I am not saying do it next year...but maybe 2011 :-D

  • WOW -- Congrats..!!!! You are everything that the word inspiration means...

Are you going to continue to do Ironmans..?

  • Great video dude...truly inspiring.

  • WOW! What an inspiraiton you are! Thanks for posting this.

  • great video...glad to see you are still here.

  • congrats on all your progress!!

  • Amazing. It must of been a hard journey but you've done it
