  • you get to fly that? lucky man

  • @DiamondPilotDan I think I logged about 42 hours in this bird before the owner sold it. Nice plane, but it had some serious speed and endurance limitations. Great personal aircraft for the rich, but wouldn't recommend it for corporate travel. I now fly a Turbo Commander 690B with the Dash 10 engines for my employer. Now THAT'S lucky!!

  • @JJLouisiana Can you elaborate on what you mean by endurance limitations? And speed tops out at around 260kts if i'm not mistaken, no?

  • I don't think 1000 nm range is very much for an airplane of this price. I'd probably spend an extra million for a TBM 850, and get a lot more speed too.

  • @crazyk6 gotta wonder how those reading glasses do for a sight picture on an ils to minimums approach.

  • It seems to take a long time to get off the runway (20 seconds?), which I've heard about Meridiens.

  • didn't I see this guy in a citation? I think you got shorted!

  • I'm only 18, I love these planes, they are exellent. But I will not be financially able to own a plane for a long while. Unfortunate fact

  • JJ

My company recently purchased a 08 Meridian. I am based @ KPTN and have a couple questions for you if you have time. Please send me an email at jhover@bgfood.com. Thanks for your time.

  • @traderjoe1300

I noticed that too, but only after receiving my initial training. At the time of the demo, I didn't know any better.

Did show that T/O flaps are not needed under optimal circumstances, which demo flights typically tend to reveal...

  • Hi JJ,

I just wanted to say I am a real admirer of your videos. I believe you are the same fellow posting under a different name with the initials JJ. Anyway, i really like the rain/IFR vids. I dont know why, but I really love flying in the rain and I like seeing the vids of it too. Do you still fly the 210?

    Paul

PS. I like to see see the wing during the videos..keep it up! :)

  • @paulflyer

Thanks Paul! Yes, I still fly the 210 and sometimes the Aerostar. Trips have been few and far between lately....

Still, I need to get the camcorder out again and put up something new.

  • @paulflyer

Oh yes, the rain video was fun! My wife rode along that day and managed to shoot that video. Still one of my all time favorites.

  • UHHHH, here's a suggestion, how about showing the friggin cockpit and thru the front of the plane instead of a retarded shot of the friggin WING111111111

  • Hey homerboy488!

Had I known beforehand what you wanted to see, I would have DEFINITELY done so, but it's clear that you are angry.

So in the future, I at least know what you want and will video accordingly. At least until you mature to the degree where I can relax and point the camera WHERE I CHOOSE TO POINT IT...

  • notice the airplanes in the background (airliners) meaning the runway is long.. sure they had enough room to get to Vfto

  • @Tyler2908KU

    LFT is a Class C airport. Longest runway is 7,651' x 150'. Won't handle an A380, but....

  • wow nice plane, i would like to fly one some day, im still in a cessna 172.

  • @31983march

Trust me when I say that the Meridian is easier to fly than the 172. I have many hours in both. Only difference is the cost of screwing up.

  • Cool vid and nice airplane... personally more analogue gauges would be nice.

  • @ups463

Sitting in the back with the camcorder while the "future owner" flew, I never got a good shot of the whole panel. On the extreme left side of the panel were all the stand-by analog gauges.

During my initial training, I relied heavily on them as I was a pure newbie to glass! Didn't take long, however, to get a fell for the new stuff .

  • Sexy cockpit!! MAN that looks nice!!!!

  • @dave4shmups

Sorry for the late reply, but yes, the Entegra array is very nice and user intuitive. I've no experience with the Garmin 1000 setup now installed on modern Meridians, but I've been told that the Garmin package is superior, yet not as user friendly.

Until I play with both, I'll reserve judgment.

  • @dave4shmups

    Piper airplanes are sexy!!!

  • @jrusso7660 Well this one sure is!!! Is that how all aircraft engine start ups work?? ie, you get the blades turning and then give it some fuel??

  • @dave4shmups

Well, that's how turbine engines start. Got to get that airflow moving aft through the engine prior to lighting the fire.

  • someone's iphone was ringing at 0:50 lol!

  • Piper Meridians were skeptic at first, but they have certainly proved themselves. This is a gorgeous plane, along with the new Single Piper Jet.

    --Rob USMC

  • i like the piper mirage myself and i hope to buy it one day. if its his plane how come your the one that will fly it were u hired?

  • Well, this was just the demo Meridian, but the newly built one that's now based at LFT is 26DR. We actually did some training at Abbeville shortly after the delivery. Abbeville was actually the "test" after the owner first demonstrated his skills at Acadiana...

Come by and visit sometime! The Radio Shop knows how to contact me.

  • The very two favorite parts you cite are the very reasons I was reluctant to upload this video. That is until I finally told myself, "what the hell...some will enjoy this."

And yes, that's me laughing as discreetly as possible after the fuel pump comment. But the owner now laughs at that comment as well after completing his SimCom training.

And keep in mind that he came from a Cessna 210 and Aerostar background. This is his first turbine experience as a pilot, even though he's owned a few.

  • Must be quite an experience jump to go from Cessna Cent. flying to a full blown turboshaft.

Would love to be in that position myself one day though. I'm happy in the little warrior for now though, it feels like my ideal office!

  • I'm earning my PPL in a Warrior III at the moment, a great little airplane. The Meridian wow....would sure love to get a ride in that some day.

  • The Warrior III is very nice - how do you find you are coping with the glass cockpit as a PPL student?

  • Why didn't you get to sit in the left seat? If you are to fly it, surely you need to be happy with it?

    Is your "boss" a PPL?

  • Hi ChrizRockster,

The owner is an 1,100 hour PPL with multi, but no IFR, so I fly the trips that venture into the flight levels where this plane does best. I mostly sit right-seat for the owner's dual insurance requirements, but have taken a few trips for him as a favor. And as of this writing, the owner has roughly 43 hours PIC while I've managed just about 21. The plane has a grand total of 71 hours on it.

Its a fun plane to fly, but that 188 KT Vmo and 127 KT Va takes getting used to...

  • Fantastic!

It is a beautiful aircraft, one that I hope to get a flight in one day, this and the Cessna Caravan are nicest modern aircraft I could ever hope to fly.

I've never really been into the heavy metal.

  • hmm the cesnas look nice but i prefur low wing level planes myself so hopefully get a piper mirage when im older and have a liscense, ( im 16 atm lol lot of saving

  • With Piper Malibu Mirage at a base price of US $1,141,500.00 thats a lot of saving for sure hehe! If you are anything like me you will love flying to its fullest, since I started my life has been changed forever!

  • is the piper malibu mirage the one piper has on their website under mirage now? ive liked planes for ages but i still dont understand the diffrances and technical stuff yet so i do need a little help.

  • Certainly is!

If you send me a private message with your e-mail address I will send you some photos I took. I had the privilege of seeing the complete new Piper range inside and out and they're all fantastic!

  • Would be nice for somebody to call Clear Prop also...

  • Hehe, I guess if you yell loud enough with a hopefully quiet ramp, this may do some good. But it may scare the hell out of the pax, since at engine start up, everything is shut tight.

With the 2008 model, Piper did away with the little pilot-side window door.

The Meridian has no rotating or flashing beacon, so best practice is to at the very least turn the Nav lights on prior to engine start, but at the very most, the strobes.

    Good vigilance prevails here...

  • on a turbine? lol...

  • That was a joke! :o)

It would be like shouting clear nacelle on an airline flight lol!

    Fantastic aircraft!

  • im seriously jelous!
