@StefanKukhuve SV are not better than AR or SL, its made for extremely severe weather conditions. Its made of the most bomb proof face fabric there is. If you dont plan on falling down a rocky scree slope anytime soon i would go with an AR, they are lighter, more flexible and still extremely bomb proof!
"The water came in from the zipper, that's to be expected a little bit" ... haha wow. The water clearly came in from the bottom of the jacket when he submerged himself in a pool.
The first test was bogus also. 10 seconds under a shower doesn't demonstrate much. Jackets that don't even claim to be fully waterproof could probably stand up to that. I'm no jacket tester, but something like standing under the shower for 5 minutes and trying to rub the water into the jacket would be better.
You're kidding me on the second test right? I mean even if you wore a plastic garbage bag which is TOTALLY waterproof, if you walk into water, the water will seep up. The material IS waterproof, but doesn't seal around any person's body.
Uhh... Any rain shell would have passed the first test. Even a four ounce UL wind shirt without any WPB laminate would have! WTF is up with the second test- wading into a pool of water? Only a drysuit would "pass" that test.
LOL this guy is funny. Why dont you take this jacket to space to see how it performs there. Judging if a jacket is waterproof after 10 seconds of rain? Any 20 dollar jacket survives 10 seconds of rain... what about the breathability?
As much as I would love to comment on all that is inaccurate with this video, I won't. All I will point out is that the pronunciation is said as such: Ark - tear - icks, not whatever you are throwing around.
Are you sure the water came through the zipper? I've got an Arc'teryx Beta SL jacket with the same, "waterproof" zippers and I've never had so much as a drop go through them in a driving rainstorm.
It's been almost a year I have this jacket now, I've tested it pretty much in the Adirondacks. On 1 occasion their was this downpore and I stayed dried. The water simply glides off the jacket. For the pool test, emerged in water, it doesn't stop the water from coming in cause its in a marine environment. But when not emerged in water, it works fine!!!
He should test it's 30 minute underwater ability.

Are you serious with this test?
Try stepping under the shower again and look up. I think that would give a very good picture about the waterproofness
And why didn't you dive into the pool and swim under the water?

All new gore-tex or even theire own brand technologies will pass the first test!
However, if you had put on, like in my vest, the snowband to keep snow out of the vest, you wouldn't get that much water in your vest.
But nobody does the second test...
Btw, i have a Quechua alpine vest from Decathlon (European retail outdour sport store).
melkchocoladekoekje 2 years ago
That is not a real test , sorry. Nothing short of a drysuit would pass that second test.
