Some one I know has a pet wolf. He sometimes has the wolf guarding his tools like a guard-dog. The wolf doesn't even give what it sees as an intruder a warning bark like a dog would. Coyotes are much better at survival as a species than wolf and I'm sure it's not because the coyote is "better" or "smarter" it's basically the fact that yotes can get away with living very close to people better than wolves (IMHO) . Look at the wolf pop in the US 100 years ago and look at it now. . Look at the coy pop 100 yrs ago and now. Wolves numbers are down biggtime, yotes are not. The cat will most likely crouch down and start creeping up, moving very slowly and finaly pouncing and grabbing the toy. Now put it in front of a dog
