Terrible years for GM! I could see why their market share fell from around 50% to 35%. Thank you Roger Smith for allowing space age digital crap and noises. That shifter is priceless. Did GM have a pink interior option?
what I don't understand is that the country which sent man to the moon 40 years ago, can make most powerful nuclear bombs....can make the space shuttle.all those fighter jets...the carriers with nuclear cores...that can run for 50 years..etc..all those things...and still build such crappy cars most of the time...like this piece of shit right here???!!!!!
I'm going to buy one of these Toronados. I'm saving up for another, had an '88 that I wrecked :( but now i'm older and more responsible, so I think I'm ready for another one of these Muscle cars. :)
hey kyle,big fan of all the vids,we have a 1963 jaguar mk 10 (jag 420 as its also known)and a 1964 jaguar mk 10,a 1967 cadillac sedan deville,1974 cadillac eldorado convertible,and a 1987 cadillac brougham
That's a pretty slick Olds for its age... Even though they were the same car as the Riviera and Eldorado, I loved the hide-away lights on the Olds - gives it more an "old school" look... Around here, never saw many Toro's, mostly Riv's and Eldorado's... Nice find there kyle!!
Great video!! Love Oldsmobile. Thanks for sharing this cool car with us. I know some people find the 80's and 90's pretty bland as far as car design go but I love them and think that some pretty cool stuff came out of that period. Makes me wish they were still making them like this today.
@xxnissansilviaxx The engine is bullet proof designed by buick in the early 60's. Skip any of these from 86-90, these were the first generation of this engine to be converted to Fuel Injection. When the 3800 Series 2 came out all of those electronic gremlins were supposedly resolved. Note that the Delco Head unit is not original to the car.
why it had honking sound inside the car...literally irritated me...hahaha but i love this vintage and it even produce in the same year i was born beautiful number of sweet 88'
Hey Kyle, great job. I had a thought, it would be interesting (in my opinion) if in one video you could explain the writing/numbers that the auction people put on the windshield/windows of the cars they have.
Oldsmobile wasn't selling enough cars so GM decided to cut them off, bad decision because I think Olds are great cars. Got an supercharged LSS myself, and I'm happy with this one
@ProgressionFilms GM was selling duplicated models by the mid-80s across the board, and most of the Olds and Buick crowd had moved to Mercury and Lincoln for full size cars when the 98, 88, LeSabre and Park Ave went FWD.... Most buyers for Oldsmobile wanted large "old school" cars like the Grand Marquis and Town Car, so GM lost a huge customer base. Olds never recovered, and the renaming of cars to Aurora and Intrigue pushed the older crowd farther away...
@execdyke91 actually this car is very high tech for the 80s. but i agree, cars used to feel homier back in the day. cars just don't have that feel anymore. I don't know, just guess i am too used to traditional american cars. gimme a plush, comfy, simple full sized american sedan anyday over these ricers and euro cars. first off, i'm not going any faster than 70, and the gadgets and gizmo's are a waste. plus, if it has a 3800 series, i'll take it! this car will last another 20 odd years.
Omg I hate GM so much. Ever since our Sedan DeVille days. We got our 89' Sedan Deville brand new and it died in 96'. THEN we got a 92' GMC Explorer conversion van and it died in 2000.. So then we got a 95' Sable and it lasted until 2002 when it was totaled. Lesson being, GM makes shitty vehicles.
For anyone wondering what the price of this car was back in the day...the base MSRP for this car was around $20,600. I do like this car alot on here. Very good shape for the miles and age (23 years old). I love that shifter too! Very unique vehicle IMO. That stereo sounded quite impressive for a 1988 Delco factory stereo. I'd drive it!
@ionutzuuuu That is definitely not true lol, this car was in great shape for the mileage, I take it you haven't seen some of the junk piles I have had on here lol
It is in great shape I agree and great video as always, but give this guy the benefit of the doubt. To me it looks like he isn't completely fluent in English and just doesn't like the styling of the car.
@saabkyle04 So true. I remember the videos that you did on that old junky Toyota Celica. That thing was disgusting! But, after you restored it, the difference was that of night and day!
@ionutzuuuu yeah not long ago he posted a honda accord lxi 2door in REAL BAD shape to stuff growing off the headrests this thing is beautiful. but it as always of a honda still started right up and sounded amazing..
@ionutzuuuu Noooo, far from, actually. The '91 (or so) Toyota Celica or the 2009... whatever that tiny rust bucket was, was the worst condition car he's done.
Ok your videos are great but I'm not really interested in old cars so can you add some new cars in your videos!! That would be great!! Love ur channel!!! :))
This is probably the best looking Toronado I've ever seen. I love the colour, metallic blue. I love the digital display centre. How about taking it for a drive?
Good choice after the recent review on the Buick Reatta, its twin for comparison purposes, specially because both models are rare birds even in their time, let alone now. These were exclusive, and rather expensive luxury coupes then, but like all glory, it's faded in time. Still, what we can say, that they aged well, and thank to their tried-and-true GM drivetrain underneath, they can still serve for inexpensive regular service for people in tight circumstance.
@wotan20 You're so right man, getting a look at these older cars are a glimpse into history, where else can you find detailed looks at these cars haha, that's what I'm here for :)
@wotan20 Nice post, but I do have a slight problem with it. Who says that those cars, or any car really, is just for people in tight circumstance? Who says that someone who's not in tight circumstance might just happen to like the 1988 Toronado? I drive a 1989 Ford Thunderbird not because I have to (I dont), but because I like to. I like the way that it feels to drive, I like the IRS and rwd, I like the stying, and I love how roomy it is for a two door car. I couldnt care less how old it is...
@wotan20 I can actually see quite a few reasons why anyone could want to drive that Toronado. It appears to be comfortable, relatively luxurious, get good fuel economy, and have a pretty sweet stereo. I wouldnt mind that car for a long trip or highway commute, not at all.
I agree, and I add the fantastic feeling in owning an inexpensive vehicle, the certainty that the car is fully paid. ☺ (That is, it's mine, not the bank's to repossess it, whenever I've fallen behind a few payments).
That key chime or whatever that was, must be broken. They couldnt have made it that annoying intentionally. lol Good video as usual Kyle. Thanks for featuring another car from my childhood.
