  • what a boring and univiting way to celebrate. Pope Pius said that the prayers of the priest should be heard and participation of the lay should be more, in respect to the "old" mass.

  • @phati129 Boring? The priest seems to be saying a private Mass, the efficacy of which is every bit as great as that of a Mass said audibly, with lay participation. The Mass you are witnessing here conveys grace, and Christ is present on the altar. If that isn't NON-boring, I don't know what is.

  • @lichtbroeder a private mass? now that says Jesus all over it..... I am Catholic and very traditional but a private does no good. Its a Liturgy from the greek, Liturgia which means the work of the people. It might be awesome for the priest but for the growth of the universal church its no good.

  • @phati129 You are incorrect. Canon Law says: 904. Remembering always that in the mystery of the Eucharistic sacrifice the work of redemption is exercised continually, priests are to celebrate...even if the faithful cannot be present.. Can. 906 states that the priest is to be assisted by at least one server when saying a private Mass.

Look up "Sine populo". A private Mass is of spiritual benefit to the entire Church. Do you ever pray for people not present? Learn your faith.

  • @phati129 "Liturgy" does not mean "work of the people". It means a "public service". A Mass said by a priest with just one server attending is still THE public service of the Church, the grace of which benefits the entire Church, not just those present, or just those who receive the Eucharist in its context. The order for sine populo Masses were included in Missal translations of the First and Second Vatican Councils. Again, look it up.

  • @phati129 The Mass is a memorial of the Last Supper AND of the sacrifice of the Cross. In it, Christ offers Himself to God in an unbloody manner under the appearances of bread and wine. It's the same sacrifice as Cavalry because the victim and the principal priest are the same, Christ. It's different from Calvary because Jesus is not physically crucified again. He died once for the remission of sins and can die no more. The entire Church benefits from the Mass even if said with no congregation.

  • "The private house chapel of Prince Massimo". Wow. It immediately brings me to the times of the Barberinis, the Borgias, the Sforzas, the De'Medicis, the Chigis, the Borgheses and so many of these ancient Italian noble families.

  • Personally, from what all I've read on John XXIII and Vatican II, John's intentions were to keep the Mass in the form it was in except use the vernacular. So simple, yet Paul VI decided to take it as far as he humanly possibly could. Taking the liturgy from Latin to vernacular is just fine, it's the content that matters not the language. What was done has produced what has been produced....which I'm sure I don't need to explain.

  • @hamartolos1 According to documents, this is not so. Pope John XXIII wrote Veterum Sapientia, emphasizing that the Church language should be non-vernacular.

  • @hamartolos1 According to documents, this is not so. Pope John XXIII wrote Veterum Sapientia, emphasizing that the Church language should be non-vernacular. The ICEL thought differently.

  • The silence of the Canon reflects the mystery of the Consecration and making present of Christ's unbloody Sacrifice in Calvary.

  • He's wearing the most distinctive vestemates I've ever seen.

  • It's so obvious that Vaticanum II was detrimental to the Church in a way far worse than the reformation in the 16th century!! Some people call it the work of the devil and although I don't go as far as that, it proved to be disastrous especially in the western world. I know priests who don't understand Latin anymore. Return to pre-Vaticanum II an save the Holy Church. Wake up!!

  • There are three aspects to the Mass: The Last Supper, The Sacrifice of Calvary, and The Easter Ressurection. These are more emphasized, respectively, by the Ordinary Latin, Extraordinary Latin, and Byzantine Rites. The problem with the Ordinary Form of the Latin Rite is that it not only downplays the Sacrifice of Calvary more than any other Rite in the Church, it also fails to present any aspect with much reverence, awe, or significance of any sort! I love it, but I have to provide my own rvrnce

  • I think it goes beyond the question of language. The ceremony/ritual of the Latin Mass is more theologically superior in manifesting publicly our true and acceptable worship to God. The Mass is not just a meal it is Christ's unbloody sacrifice on the cross being done on the altar...after Vatican II the mass has gone astray more of a theatre or entertainment more than sacred worship

  • @itcanales29 I'd like to correct your notion on the Mass of Paul VI. The Mass of Paul VI is as theologically sufficient as the Mass of Trent. The prayers of Paul VI's Missa contains also a Commemorantes, Supra Quae, Supplices te Rogamus, and an Anamnesis.

The Doxology stays the Same. Are you a Sedevacantist?

  • @itcanales29 That is not the belief of the one and only Catholic church.

  • @itcanales29 I agree completely!

  • Learn Latin!

  • @Jackk84 Agreed, however Vatican II never intended for the new mass to go the way it had. As we already know, the Latin Mass was NEVER done away with. Liberals took hold of it and that is why we are suffering just one of the many sacraliges. Thank good Pope Benedict XVI as liberated the traditional mass. I myself prefer the traditional mass over the ordinary form.

  • Its about God not about you. God understands Latin! If you wanted to become a self God and have People say a "Mass" in honor of you than have it in any language you darn well please.

  • @dacatholicbandorgan god understands english to you know

  • @fuxu123 certainly, but the whole doesnt understand english, but the whole world can have acces to Latin-Venacular Missals.

  • @dacatholicbandorgan Your missing the point. God understands every language which means that whether the Mass is in Latin or in another language it will always be pleasing to him as long as the Mass retains the same purpose.

  • @qweeboerz so just beacuse God understands English doens't mean we cant have Mass in Latin. God understands Latin to you know.

Sadly, Mass doesnt remain the same Purpose, that is especilly Venacular Masses.

  • @dacatholicbandorgan I didnt say you couldn't have Mass in Latin or that its bad to do so. You make it sound like Mass is more sacred by virtue of the fact that its in Latin. And about the purpose of Mass in the vernacular there is nothing in the texts themselves which state anything contrary to the catholic faith. The new translation of the Mass in english is actually very good you should read it sometime.

  • @qweeboerz The Novus Ordo is the only Mass I do attend, I attend the Tridentine when I can (about once a month or so). True it is not just the Latin, I mean its a dead language and is not subejct to change every few years, but even then the text of the Tridentine is so Poetic, and thanks to the Pope some of is will be restored to the Compleatly Venacular Novus Ordo.

  • @qweeboerz Language affects "purpose". The Mass in part is sacred drama. The first translations into English were beautiful. Then, "He took into His goodly hands a most excellent chalice" became "He took the cup". Same meaning, but poetic loss. The Mass speaks to us via our senses as well as intellect. The Novus Ordo pared everything down and focused on "understanding". One doesn't "understand" a MYSTERY religion! One believes in ORDER to understand. The old Mass stressed this fact.

  • @043778cc Get a Latin-English missal for Chirst's sake.

  • I believe this to be in a private chapel somewhere in a famous family's home, No???

  • Really, they would have private chaples like this in the houses of aristrocrats? Very interesting.
