  • I have another idea. ;-)

  • Oh? Please share :-)

  • so we approach it from another side ..lets say a different light in the spectrum of empathy and make gains on that. USER FRIENDLY OPEN SOURCE. the thing is WE have to do it together period.

  • Yes. But it won't be easy to organise, and we have to wade through the treacle of apathy. It'll be hard. But when has that ever been a reason to stop trying :-)

  • my cousin and i wrote a book with the same title

  • about the same subject ? O_o

  • Brillant strategy.

  • Cheers

  • The war against reason is relentless. Progressively-minded people have fought it for centuries, often with their lives. Luckily it doesn't often come to that, at least not here. Still it's instructive to us how difficult Google is becoming, not exactly evil, but I'm not tempted to send them a box of chocolates either. Good work!

  • Yeah. I think Google and YouTube really need to remember the quote "all it takes for evil to happen is for good people to do nothing"

  • You broke the sound barrier!

  • :-)

  • One small point; you didn't appear to leave your contact info for the IT guy to get back to you. Most likely wouldn't happen but it couldn't hurt.

Good job figuring that call stuff out :)

  • No, I didn't; I have NO idea what YouTube are up to, although there is a glimmer of hope now that dprjones' account has been restored, but that wasn't the case when I recorded it. I had to seriously consider the possibility that YouTube would retaliate against people trying to penetrate the bureaucracy, to quote "the Incredibles". So I didn't leave my actual name.

  • "I had to seriously consider the possibility that YouTube would retaliate against people trying to penetrate the bureaucracy"

    A fair point.

I think I might try it this weekend. Youtube can't do much to me anyways.

  • Great! May I suggest you take the approach of thanking them for dprjones' reinstatement, say that this fills you with hope, and then point out that many other accounts are still suspended due to this... that sort of thing. Stroke their egos a bit. ;-)

  • " say that this fills you with hope,"

That just brought a big smile to my face. I will certainly be pragmatic in my approach but "fills me with hope" is just too darn precious :)

If I make any substantial progress I will let you know to pass on to others (I don't "make videos"...yet)

  • LOL

Yes, I'm known for using hyperbole occasionally :P

  • Fantastic work. Thank you for making this call on behalf of literally millions of honest people.

  • Cheers, but will it work? We'll see.

  • Sweet blistering crap.... it did.

    dprjones is back!

  • Brilliant. I hope they're looking into a way to deal with the problem of false flagging. Somebody must protect us from the mindless hordes out there! I see you're living in Ireland too. Just down the road. Small world.

  • cool. Small but pretty. Most of the time, anyway.

  • Excellent video!! Thanks!

  • Cheers :-)

  • Thank you!

  • You're welcome

  • I don't know what kind of statistical solution you're talking about

IMO it's not so easy to distinguish between flagging campaigns and genuine disgust... in fact they are identical things

  • Nope. A flagging campaign stands out like a sore thumb. The statistical pattern will be very different from a video that attracts flags from all over the community.

  • "The statistical pattern will be very different from a video that attracts flags from all over the community"

I thought a flagging campaign is when a user (I mean a yt user or blog editor, etc) tells (implicitly or explicitly) other people to flag, or points (directly or indirectly) to something that they're gonna flag anyway...

Define your terms because it's not very clear what you're taling about.

  • I'd rather discuss this in private with YouTube. Part of the success of whatever they implement is that users shouldn't know exactly how it works.

  • hahaha, you're just a pretentious moron

  • Fine. But I'm not going to discuss methods that YouTube can employ to fight this in public so that the trolls can have a head start before YT even starts implementing it. Think of that what you will.

  • you've proven that you have no idea what you're talking about

also, basically you're the troll and you're trolling youtube...

  • ... says the faceless muppet. Blocked

  • type in google "list Google employees"

    abracadabra...

  • LOL

  • Clever, clever, clever!

  • :-)

  • you are a genius!

  • :-) Thank you!

  • your smarts have always won me over and im proud to be a sub of yours. i may do the same, great advice, it's time youtube starts be user friendly to its actual users. thanks and glad to have ya in the states, you would be a welcomed citizen in the US.

  • > you would be a welcomed citizen in the US

LOL - seriously, but I think I'll make a video about that one day ;-)

  • Absolutely brilliant.

  • Thanks :-)

  • The weather was shit in Ireland too, I have a cold (It's fucking MAY!!!!!).

Just hope it ain't Swine ;S

  • LOL

  • Are you heading to this meeting in the Wynn on Monday, regarding the Blasphemy law?

Apparently Dermot Ahern is "bemused" at the "conspiracy theory" against the laws that contradict free speech.

  • The Wynn? Where is that?

  • The Wynn Hotel, Abbey St. The Luas from Connely stops outside it.

Meeting start 8 (scheduled) finishes 10 in the PM

Don;t know the Greystones timetable, I would have an hour to get the last train home myself

  • ok. Lemme pencil that in.

  • By the way, I'm not from Atheist Ireland - Comment on one of their videos, and the response is a mere direction to the forum on their website, as if I didn't know where to find already...........I don't comment on it though LOL

  • :-)

    BTW, you planning to go?

  • Yeah, For Sure

done a quiz on FaceBook on which party I would vote for, Fine Gael come up.... erm.... no thanks, should have clicked more of the "Brits Out" buttons - but I wouldn't vote for them Fucker either.

Hopefully I'll talk to you Monday!!

    Stiof

  • Damn,

I missed it. Was it good?

  • You missed a historical event; the birth of the Church of Dermotology - The Church that worships Irish Justice Minister Dermot Ahern and his proposed new blasphemy law - Google it, it's already set up on Facebook

Fight fire with fire I say

  • Cool. I'm joining XD

  • Brilliant. But maybe another video - you know, one that, um, accidentally "escapes" from some decrepit old channel - with explicit contact details and a clear viral intent. The time for subtle diplomacy has long passed. Leak a list of names and extension numbers. It needs to be done. People affected can then instantly have that info at their fingertips and make a massive nuissance of themselves.

  • It's pretty much self explanatory what I describe here. The phone number is public, and Google is available to all of us.

  • I agree, but I bet a lot of people won't bother. If it isn't spelled out in black and white, it'll be seen as just too much trouble. I frequenty point folks to different sites and resources and never fail to be amazed at the questions I get about how to do this or that - after I've already told them, just not in abc form.

Plus a whole list of extensions and names would really piss YT off, and that would make me laugh lots and lots and lots. :)

I'm mentioning this vis as often as I can.

  • Your suggesting is tempting. Very tempting. Oh so tempting. You naughty person you.

    [grin]

  • Oh that will get some attention.

  • LOL. Yeah. "hardly any" is "some", I guess.

  • florida? jealous now...

  • :-)

  • ... and here they go again: dprjones' latest video on dprjoneslives has been flagged. Time to leave YouTube?

  • In order for me to leave they will have to drag my still warm twitching corpse off this site. We will never surrender.

  • Why is it so commonly expressed "flagging campaign"? Wouldn't it be more likely that these are flagBOT attacks. Surely it's not much different to create flagging bot than a votebot. Not that it matters in the end though...

  • Good point.

  • I wonder what that guy does when he checks his messages this morning? I'm betting he ignores it, but I'm a pessimist about these things.

  • Let's see if he still ignores them when his message box is full, shall we?

  • I hope you're right Pino, I really do. I think youtube tries, but they're severly understaffed based on the content and google is losing money from this site, so they can't afford to hire more people. Rock, meet hard place, if you know what I mean.

  • yeah, but nope, I don't accept it. They bought YouTube, they can bloody well take responsibility for it. Or kill it off so that other sites with a business model that fits reality can take its place.

  • Harsh but true words.

  • :-)

  • True. I should have practiced what I wanted to say.

  • I want to send that guy at YouTube some Miracle Spring Water, and Mana Bread.

  • LOL

  • I just timed it. You have 2:30 minutes to talk.

  • cool. Good to know that.

  • Comment removed

  • omfg what brilliance! Thanks for helping and sharing the idea. I will be calling in the morning!

Again, sorry i missed out on the florida trip, i thought about it constantly. Glad you had at least one good day at the beach, it looked beautiful.

ok, thanks again for trying to help, and i will call myself too.

hey, check out filmrookieDOTcom, it looks like an exodus is happening.

    Talk to ya later.

  • Already signed up.

  • When you said that was the only good day of the trip i though you were going to talk about the constant storms we get here making you have to stay inside the other days. :D (Floridian)

  • haha

Hotel owner said it was the worst weather she had seen for ages.

  • The worst part about Florida weather this time of year is it feels like the rain is a conscious entity because it tends to know exactly when you gotta go outside. Check the mail in the rain, walk the dog in the rain, get the newspaper in the rain. XD

  • A very mischievous conscious entity at that.

  • LOL

The most surprising thing to me was the temperature. I was in Florida once before, near Miami, in February 1995. It was like our summer, just warmer. So this time, it being May, I expected sweltering, oppressive heat. Nope. One day I actually had to put on a jacket. O_o

  • "One day I actually had to put on a jacket."

Once upon a time I got fed up with the NY winter, got in the car and drove straight through, non stop, to Florida.

When I hit Jacksonville I was still all bundled up because my car heater couldn't keep with the cold- and it was snowing.

In the meantime NY was having a record mid-winter heat wave. Arrrrrrgh!

South of Daytona Beach everything suddenly changed to look and feel like the tourist brochures. Guess it's a Gulf Stream thing.

  • Quite possibly. There were two guys from Nova Scotia at the conference. We actually flew over it on the way in. Place was still covered in snow. And it's at the same latitude as Ireland O_o

  • I travelled for a living - writing travel guides - and I have yet to meet an hotel owner who says: "Yes, we tend to get bad spells sometimes."

And thank you for calling and sharing!

  • LOL

It would be hard to deny it with the palm trees whipping back and forth in the wind and the driving rain outside the window :-)

  • Excellent video, Jack.

  • Don't call me Jack! [eewk]

  • I would also like to suggest sending YT complaints by registered mail. Not sure if it would be a popular idea, but mass mails that they have to acknowledge might be interesting to say the very least. I will be trying this, and hope others might follow suit.

Great video, and goed idee, I will be phoning them also!!

  • definitely

  • I will be calling in the morning

  • great

  • I watched this twice now and that's an utterly brilliant suggestion. It may not initially get anywhere but if enough people do it to enough random employees...

I know my employer would respond.

  • not "random", search specifically for people involved in the IT Infrastructure. I searched for "IT manager"

  • Oops - my mistake. :-)

  • All I can say is, you were in the US and didn't call me?

    /cry

Sorry - brief comic relief there.

    Excellent vid as always.

  • haha! I didn't have your number!

    Thanks

  • great work.

you tube seems to have an auto system for suspending people.

    maybe it's been hacked.

my theory is that there is one of these fanatical religious dupes in u tube itself

  • exactly. And an automated system wouldn't be TOO bad, if only there was a way where you could appeal its decisions. But there isn't. And then it becomes totally unacceptable.

  • Excellent strategy!

  • I just took CiphersSon's idea and took it a step further.

  • YouTube don't do their homework when they suspend people, I hardly think they even look at the videos.

They just accept the DMCAs and flags at face value, so long as they are not send against a money making partner channel.

That is very bad costumer support, to put it mildly.

  • It's a total lack of same.

  • crafty fella!

I like how you offered solutions with your complaint.

  • definitely. That's the way to do these things. :-)

  • Since it was a random person, they can always claim the janitor got the call and they never heard of you. The jerks just don't care. They are making millions, and they know we don't really have a better site to go to. Thanks for trying, Pino. 5/5 and fave.

  • No, it wasn't a random person. That's where I took CiphersSon's idea a bit further. When I tried to do what he did I noticed the "option 8" in their phone menu. I then googled for "IT Manager" "at YouTube", found a guy and phoned him directly. Try it, it really works.

  • fine job.

  • Thank YOU, sir, for coming up with the idea.

  • It's still vile here in Orlando, FL. good vid!

  • :-)

  • So awesome! This video definitely deserves some kind of award for actually getting down to business.

  • Many thanks to CiphersSon for having the original idea.

  • Where does that title come from?!?! I've been trying to figure out for weeks...

  • The "Lassie" movies.

  • This is too much. My hat is off to you sir.

    5*/fave

  • Thank you. Check out also the original idea by CiphersSon - the vid I responded to.

  • Maybe I listen to a bit too much bizarre electronica, but I thought the noises happening during Rozeboosje getting connected, with the distorted name and the repetitive ring tone, sounded quite musical!

  • LOL

  • ps... downloaded.. will make the call on friday when im not workin

  • cool!

  • Bravo - full marks for having a go there!

  • Thanks for CiphersSon for having the original idea and passing on the phone number (see the vid I responded to)

  • genius. featured.

  • ditto

  • see my comment to oojamaflipper

  • Thank you. Do credit CiphersSon please for having the original idea. I just did what the Japanese do: take someone else's great idea and run with it.

  • Coughlan666 is back. I noticed about 26 hours later.

    Great video.

  • Coughlan is still suspended. The channel was never taken down. He can't get in for 14 days.

  • That is nothing compared to a permanent suspension.

  • See ADF203's comment: a 2-week ban does not result in the channel being taken down; it just means the owner cannot use it for two weeks. Coughlan666's channel is still suspended.

  • When people say they are suspended their account is usually closed and the message is "This account is suspended".

    Thanks guys, I stand corrected.

  • It's relatively new this "two week" suspension thing, I believe.

  • Great effort there Pino, did you leave your details in the hope someone will get back to you,or at least say it's passed on to the relevant person?Be interested to see if anything comes from it. Maybe i'm trying to be optimistic on such a depressing day since finding out about dprjones...

Hope you enjoyed Florida, minus the food ;)

  • No; I reckoned that might lead to retaliation.

  • Good point. We already know the system is flawed,so probably best not to leave your channel open to targetting. :)

  • Cool! Maybe getting on the nerves of those working for YT is a good thing, it's definitely better than false flagging or votebotting...

  • I loved CiphersSon's idea, but I think this adds to it in that we can directly target relevent people. I found an "IT Manager". I suggest others try other phrases to find different people involved in the IT infrastructure.

  • Excellent video!!

Hope the assholes don't put it down

  • That's why I suggested people download it ;-)

  • I wish I lived in US so I could place a call too..

  • I don't live in the US either; I made this call from Ireland using a VOIP client.

  • Hey Rozeboosje,

I head about this report coming out in Ireland dealing with child abuse of the church over the years.

How big is this news in Ireland itself? Do people discuss this openly on the street, are there debates over morality and clergy in the media?

  • The floodgates have been opened. No doubt I'll be making a vid about it one of these days.

  • i went to Florida over christmas (last time i leave the snowy beauty of Canada during my favourite season) and it was amazing but, i really prefer it up here in the north

  • Yup. Me, too.

  • Well done. You know Google owns you tube. Costumer service is bad there too.

  • I could live with "bad", but it doesn't even exist.

  • Nice work man, though this may not get the desired effect it is still better than the option we don't have.

  • exactly. "drip, drip, drip" wears out the hardest rock

  • For the sake of the community I hope this works.

  • Each individual initiative is puny and hopeless, so we need a barrage of things like this, in the hope that the relentless assault will eventually break us into the ivory tower.

  • Was horrible, no? :P

  • I don't find the Florida suburban landscape particularly beautiful.

  • Nope. Especially not in that weather. The beach was nice though.

The *food* though, do NOT get me started on the food. It's abominable.

  • Then you obviously didn't visit any Cuban restaurants. :-P

  • I'm sure there are a few good restaurants, but your average place is all deep fried processed shite. "Awful" doesn't even begin to describe it.

In one place I had a "half chicken". I barely recognised a drumstick and a wing. And then there were two unidentifiable triangular pieces.

Americans seem to have a real problem with food that is recognisable as what it once was.

  • Brilliant idea

  • Cheers

  • excellent!

  • Thank you

  • Nice. But I don't think it will work... :(

  • None of these initiatives would work by themselves. But, it's a drip, drip, drip effect. Each drip is just a drip. What could it possibly hope to achieve?

But if you keep on dripping, one drip will cause the vessel to overflow, one fine day.

  • Fight the good fight of reason, lay hold on this finite life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

When in doubt, fuck 'em with their own shtick.

  • Indeed.

  • If you offer them money or the potential to advertise on their site, it's amazing how quick they are to find someone to talk to you

Yes it's cheating, it's lying but money talks even if you've no intention of spending it

  • I've tried appealing to their greed by making an issue out of how I was affected as a "partner channel". That didn't have the desired effect either. It's unbeflippinlievable

  • well done mate...

  • Cheers

  • Well done
