I'm a great piano lover and a Steinway fan, in particular. I've seen Note by Note dozens of times. In Note by Note, Aimard makes such a fuss about selecting a piano--he's looking for a "monster." Finally, he finds it. Yet, at the performance at Zankel, he's playing a Hamburg Steinway--not the monster he found in Steinway's basement. Anyway, I wish Steinway would produce a Hamburg version of Note by Note.
watched this tonight on ABC 1 it was one of the best documentarys ive seen!!!! i have an appreciation now for Steinway pianos like never before! i will kiss one the next time i see one they are a creation of pure love and commitment, thanks soooo much for this wonderful documantary,Godbless you, love Ads ^L^
This is a great video that demonstrates why a Steinway concert grand is the best instrument available. The film is well photographed and balances the right amount of information, art and yet do not feel like an infomercial. Highly recommended.

I'm not sure which piece you're referring to. He plays 3 in the trailer, I believe. Can you tell me the timecode?

Can anyone identify the test piece that Pierre-Laurent Aimard uses in the documentary? (it's not on this clip...)

I love my Steinway -- a 1923 M (Mahagony). The bottom of the soundboard and the action are signed! I will see this film this weekend!
