I have played lots of emulators, and many games both physical and emulated. Without question the real games make an important part of the experience. Its not one way or the other. Its all things, the times, the bellbottoms, the drinking and smoking indoors, the bowling alleys, the smells, the tastes (crappy food that was SO GOOD), and much more. So I'd agree its atmosphere, but the physical game made part of that formula work.

Anyone who has played mame or other emulators will feel, like i do, that it isn't the games that made that time so great, but the actual atmosphere in those arcades. Friends made, highest scores beaten and lost. Back in the day :D
