I like how abrupt the ending of this song is. I like this song a lot for its simplicity. It's a lot different than MM's other stuff and I'm really looking forward to see where they're going with their song writing. It's been 2 years since WWD was released and it'll probably be another year or so before the next album with new material is released, and I can't wait!!

I agree that their sound has changed< but that is because they are human and constantly changing. I think it is an evolution. MM is always developing a sound that is not what they have done before, but not of a lesser quality. From Elvis and the beatles to pearljam and MM, bands evolve and/or dissolve. Musicians create from what is within themselves. MM's music is always a reflection of this.
I agree they've changed, but that's kinda funny to say about a band that's always been changing. Most older fans tend to not like the "new styled modest mouse" and i think it's because it's a lot more poppy. Here's a thing about pop, it actually used to be cool (Beatles, Rolling Stones, Zepp) If a poppy sound is gonna put modest mouse on the radio, and help them get the attention they deserve, i'm all for it only bc their messages are just as deep and consistent. I hate bands that all their songs sound the same. I'm glad they're progressing because you never know what to expect. People would complain if they did the same stuff over and people are complaining that they've changed just relax and listen to some good music.

remember that Isaac isn't always going to be a young 20 year old full of screams and so much energy. Its been 10 years since everything up until M&A was written. They were playing "Dark Center in '98, and "Gods Shoeshine" in 1996, so its safe to say all those were written when Issac was really young. They've just gotten older and matured. I don't necessarily like it either, but its something we have to face, haha. All bands do it sometime. :)
Yeah, I'm tryin to practice acceptance and have a better perspective on it, and I realized even this new music is a another level compared to 99% of bands out there. I realize that most bands want to creatively branch out, and where they branch out to usually doesn't appeal to the audience AT ALL, and for them to pull it off is incredible. I will add one note: Built to Spill is one of those anomalies that gets better as they get older, in my opinion.
for sure man! I've noticed that a lot of MM fans enjoy Built to Spill, Elliot Smith, and the like. BTS has always been really good though, and Modest Mouse are still one of the best bands to break into mainstream. I'm glad they finally achieved true financial success and held on to their fanbase as well. :)

Although I do like their new stuff, it is obviously more linear and more pop-like than their old stuff. Their old stuff was filled with sweet tempo changes and they tended to divert from the very bland verse-chorus-verse song structure. I can see why people like their old stuff more.

the whole theme of this song and even the whale song seems to be similar to float on and dashboard to an extent, but i don't know all the lyrics. but the whole "Everyone, everyone wins!" from this and "everybody could find a way out" from the whales song
This is barely a glimpse of what the song will really sound like once it's recorded. I remember hearing versions of Missed the Boat and some other songs from WWDBTSES and I thought they sounded like crap, sort of like this, but they ended up being a lot better on the CD, then once you hear the real versions, the live versions start to sound better too.
yeah but judging from this and the Whale Song, it sounds like they are getting closer to what they used to sound like before WWDBTSES. Well more so on the Whale Song. But this one sounds like something off of Good News. Hopefully the EP will come out soon but they started playing songs from WWDBTSES about 6 months or so before the cd finally came out..

Also, if I hear one more person try and sound cool for saying their new stuff sucks, I might...get angry I guess. But really, their new stuff is really good too. It's just unfair that their new stuff is being compared to their old stuff (which is godlike and therefor hard to compare anything with.

Although I do like their new stuff, it is obviously more linear and more pop-like than their old stuff. Their old stuff was filled with sweet tempo changes and they tended to divert from the very bland verse-chorus-verse song structure. I can see why people like their old stuff more.

i love modest mouse, old and new. i think if u've only heard their new album then u're missing out and you need to check out the older stuff too :) it all sounds amazing. that's nothing to get mad about... but i know a lot of people who have ONLY checked out the new album and didn't like it, so never took the time to even find the older songs. i think people should do a little more research before they say they don't like modest mouse. HOW THE HELL COULD U NOT LOVE THIS!!! :D

the whole theme of this song and even the whale song seems to be similar to float on and dashboard to an extent, but i don't know all the lyrics. but the whole "Everyone, everyone wins!" from this and "everybody could find a way out" from the whales song

This is barely a glimpse of what the song will really sound like once it's recorded. I remember hearing versions of Missed the Boat and some other songs from WWDBTSES and I thought they sounded like crap, sort of like this, but they ended up being a lot better on the CD, then once you hear the real versions, the live versions start to sound better too.

yeah but judging from this and the Whale Song, it sounds like they are getting closer to what they used to sound like before WWDBTSES. Well more so on the Whale Song. But this one sounds like something off of Good News. Hopefully the EP will come out soon but they started playing songs from WWDBTSES about 6 months or so before the cd finally came out..
