  • O my gosh, I love her dress!!! (And her and RV of course ^-^)

  • Wow! But the third "amami"? "Amami Alfredo, amami quant'io t'amo, AAAAAAA Alfredo quant'io t'amo..."?

Nevertheless her voice is wonderful and very pleasant, her acting too.

  • I saw this show at the MET in 2008 (or around 2008). It was the best b-day present I ever got. Renee Fleming is the best. She can sing lying on a sofa, something very few can do. I have seen other performances of La Traviatta, but nothing compared to Renee's.

  • The version I prefer is with Roberto Alagna and Angela Gheorghiu: she's great and in my opininion Angela is the best Violetta!

  • This is, hands down, the BEST "Amami Alfredo!" I have ever seen/heard. No one, I repeat, NO ONE sings longing, loss, and heartache like Renee.

  • I cried... absolutely beautiful...

  • How much more perfect can a voice be? God Bless this Woman's voice and give us the benefit of hearing her marvelous and glorious instrument for many years.

  • She must be some kind of space alien. That voice is from out of this world. super human, really. Wow... she is simply terrific.

  • I was first introduced to this opera when i watched Pretty Woman and they featured this scene. It is now one of my favorites, and she sings it beautifully!!!

  • Very well sung, despite a couple of over-arched phrases and histrionic cries, BUT what the hell is she wearing and what idiot is directing this? The dress in grotesque ans this scene looks like TV soap opera!

  • @philipc67 I totally agree! I guess that no woman in the 19th century (and over the past centuries) ever wore that kind of dress except, maybe.... the "little mermaid!"

There should be a contest about the ugliest stage dress, that could be fun and this one might rank in the first five

  • I know nothing about this. Or opera, period. So will someone please tell me what she needed to tell him?

  • @FootlessMannequin She had been asked to leave by his father because their association might prevent Alfredo's sister from marrying. Violetta is writing to tell him goodbye.

  • This is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen on stage before. Rene is stunning and completely takes my breath away. Does anyone know if this is available on CD or DVD??

  • Ella llora... high loud!

  • OMG......bravo Renée ..... great

  • the best for me ... simple perfect Renee!

  • I'm impressed... Fleming here is as good as my ATF Diva Beverly Sills and her acting was even better than Bev but the voice no-one except Callas and Sutherland could equal Beverly.

  • That tremolo under Fleming's pleading... it's enough KILL someone...

  • Vocally arresting. I never really cared for her, but this made me a believer! I saw her Travi at the Met and was truly excited by her singing! BRAVA

  • Her voice is truly overwhelming. OK, her crying is a bit exaggerated for my taste, but overall she is fantastic.

But I'd also like to comment on Alfredo. Vargas could well be called 'the new Pavarotti': beautiful voice (though not as beautiful as the late Luciano's), strikingly similar looks, and total inability to act...

  • we are 1 and the same in mind on this video! i absolutely adore renee but hate her crying. Im not sure if vargas could compete with steven seagal in the realm of bad acting... at least he smiles alot : )

  • This was from the opening night of the 125th Anniversary season at the Met...I was there for this performance and all I can say is that SHE WAS AMAZING!!! What an amazing night this was!!! Fleming is an angel, tearing out the hearts of her audience to show them the beauty of the music...I love her!!!

  • beautiful just abousolutly beautyful goosebumps

  • Where did you get the clip? Is Fleming's Traviata on DVD now? :)

  • Strepitosa!

  • D E V A S T A T I N G

  • Crying...

  • Thanks for posting. Do you have the duet with Germont that's right before this?

  • -Met is living her most Glorious times... how she will be missed when gone...

    -what a Vision of beauty...

-the best Amami Alfredo I have heard after Callas'

  • She shines when she is interpreting Strauss, Mozart, and now Verdi. Here she is in tune with the character, giving a wonderful performance.

  • My favorite in this role, by far.

  • Could someone please the scene with Germont the father and Violetta, Thomas Thomson and Renee Fleming at the Met opening please if possible?.

  • Absolutely fantastic

  • Wha..??!
