  • Awesome Tutorial always wondered how this was done.

    Your the Best Mama.

  • VERY... very easy...thank's!

  • Awesome training. Very clear, concise and easy to follow.

    Thanks so much.

  • THANKS..... I LEARN A LOT...

  • can you do the same using a vectorized image instead of typography?

  • Finally! Thank you so much! :D

  • did you see the green spot in the ''A''? :) Like this comment!

  • Thank you so much I was looking for this for a long time! Thx!

  • im really new but i do have a question , how do i get the image on a seprate layer nd also have d background the way u did it

  • @taiyel The image was shot on a white background, see above comment for creating separate layer

  • you should never stretch text...hold shift to keep proportions...

  • @mcdowellbrent Never say Never. If it's "body" text, I agree. But for artistic purposes Horizontally or Vertically scaling text can be effective and add to the genre of the piece.

  • @photoshopmama Sorry if this has already been asked but, how would I do the opposite of this? As in, make the text invisible, with an image around it? Say my background was a photo, and I had a box under the text, and I wanted to cut the text out to show the image under the box? If you understand what I'm trying to explain...

  • @Tehriifiic I think you just answered your own question--"and I had a box under the text and I wanted to cut the text out to show the image under the box" Load the selection of the text by Command clicking on the thumbnail of the text layer so the marching ants are visible. Then shut the visibility off for the text layer, highlight the box and press delete to cut the letter shapes out of the box layer.

  • @photoshopmama When I try to highlight the box and delete, it says, "Could not complete your request because the content of the layer is not directly editable."

  • @Tehriifiic Are you trying to cut the letter shapes out of a smart object layer or the very bottom "Background" layer? If so...you can't do that. Double click on the background if that's the case, so it turns into an editable layer. If it's a smart object layer, right click on it and choose the "rasterize" command.

  • THANKYOUUUU!

  • My Friend Sent Me This Video nd Said

I Am Actually A Black Woman

    I Said

    Nellie, That's Weird

Then She Said She's Also A Manly White Man

I'm Never Asking Her How To Use Ohoto Shop Again

    But I Like This Video

  • ma'am i have cs5 not cs3 and i cant seem to find where it says clipping mask can you help?

  • One place to look for things having to do with "Layers" is under the top Layer menu. Go to Layers>Create Clipping Mask.

  • @photoshopmama alright but do you know how to keep the image in the back ground and push the clipping mask into it?

  • @youngduval9043 Make 2 copies of the background layer.

  • @photoshopmama thanks momma but do i clipping mask both of em?

  • @youngduval9043 No, only one should be part of the clipping mask. copy should be below the shape or text layer, and the other copy above the shape/text layer and clipping masked to it

  • @photoshopmama can you make a vide showing please causwe im not understadning what your saying

  • @youngduval9043 Here's the idea--you have an image layer on bottom and a type layer(shape layer) above it. . duplicate the image layer, so from bottom up the order is image layer, type layer, image layer--highlight the top image layer, go to the top menu Layer-Create Clipping Mask. Boom, you're done!

  • @youngduval9043 Under the Layer Menu--Create Clipping Mask. And the keyboard shortcut appropriate for your platform is listed next to the command

  • Thanks so much! This literally saved my butt, I'm on a deadline for my art class and I needed this! Thanks :)

  • Love the video, but new to photoshop! Please tell me how I do a "nine up layer sequence" with all the images I want to use. Thanks in advance!

  • Great tutorial, you made it look so easy!

  • thanks ;)

  • Would you know how to do a Clipping Mask effect for video.

  • my text doesnt pop up when i type it in

  • It probably is there, but if you have the color for the text set to white, the same color as your background, then you can't see it. So make sure to set the color box in the top options bar to a contrasting color before typing. You can also set type color afterwards, by clicking the check mark in top options to commit the Type, then click on the small color swatch in the top options bar which will open the color picker for you to switch the type color on the current type layer

  • First, I'd like to say the colorsplash vid was awesome. It was a great help. I'm VERY new at this whole thing. You open tutorial with a white backround layer and a picture (which are seperated) which I have tried to duplicate. I open up a white layer, but when I open up my picture.... IT (the pic) then becomes the bottom layer. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?!?! HELP!!!!

  • thank2x thank2x thank2x thank2x thank2x you you you you you you nice nice and great tutorial.......

  • hmm . what is the font ?

  • @thecedhz I believe it is called IMPACT

  • @photoshopmama That's not Impact...It's hard to tell what exactly it is though since it was modified. Charcoal CY seems pretty close to it.

  • Ok this might sound dumb but im very new, what exact steps did u do to get the background and then the picture as just a layer..i've looked around and dunno howto merge it on i can't use open then put it on haha confuzzled.

  • @KershaNerga WHAT YOU WANNA DO IS MAKE A NEW LAYER ON THE PAGE

  • @KershaNerga One way to get an image or part of an image on a separate layer by making a selection with the Marquee Tool around what you want and then "Jump" it to a new layer by pressing Ctrl J on PC or Cmd J on Mac

  • hey! can u teach how to make an opaque image...this is usually seen on wallpapers..the image fades from the sides and is like an opaque background along with the actual background..

  • Thanx mama always good interesting tuto!! God bless!!!

  • THANKS PHOTO.MAM

    It´s Help a lot =)

  • thnx maam..it really helped!!

  • Very good work! Clear and easy to understand unlike some other tutorials you have made it easier for me :)

  • thanks a lot you are amaizng

  • will i know a diffrent that u can put the picture as background:D

  • thnxx!! =]]

    /////8-Bit Tyler

  • It was called clipping group in that version. Still applied by Alt/Option clicking on line between the layer slots

  • im using photoshop 7 but i can't find the clipping mask option.. any help?

  • Apesar que no entiendo vien el ingles entendi bien los pasos a seguier me gusto mucho gracias.

  • very well done :)

  • how can i get both a regular background on layer window one layer of white background and one layer of pic

  • Use a selection tool to draw around the image, then press Ctrl J (PC), Cmd J (Mac) to Jump the selection to a new layer. This is called Layer Via

Copy and it will automatically create a new layer with whatever is within the selection boundaries contained. Then click back on the original bkgd and Edit>Fill with white.

  • thanks alot

  • tnx alot you guys..love you

  • Yey. [: Thank you very much. [:

  • thankz! nice turorial...help me a lot...

  • nICE TUTORIAL.. BUT HOW DO I CROP OUT JUST THE TEXT WITHOUGHT THE WHITE BACKGROUND IN THE BACK?

  • Shut the visibility of the white background OFF

  • thanks, i m new to photoshop, all i learn are from youtube. thanks for the tutorial

  • Sorry about that but I'm two weeks old into this program I'm trying to hard sort of the cart before the horse. It WORKED I dont know how it sort of hard when there no one over my shoulder I'll keep fighting. Thanks : )

  • Tenacity is important...as is patience and passion! Glad to hear you got through it.

  • I like your tutorials but I hate when people shrug off the basics...water flowing underground??? I'll wait for a reply if not I'll keep looking.

  • I do my best

  • I am also using Photoshop 3 Extended, so there's no difference there.

  • I have Photoshop Cs3 extended open I start with FILE - Cntrl+N (NEW) that gives me the white background and locked then thats where my troubles begin I drag the image into new layer it takes over my background and locks???

  • Unlock it. There are lock icons at the top of the Layers palette.

  • If you're getting a locked layer then you're not following the instructions exactly. I do not create any locked layers in this tutorial. I often find if someone is having trouble with one of my tutorials it is usually an error on their end so I suggest watching it once without doing anything, then watching it again and pausing it to apply the steps. Rinse and Repeat.

  • thanks mama shaun..

  • Thanks so much.

  • Looks great, can't wait to try it out. :) Just out of curiousity, does this work on Photshop Elements? I have a friend who might like to use this who's got it.

  • I don't think the shortcut works but I do believe the Clipping Mask command can be found under the top Layer menu in Elements. I do know clipping masks are a function possible in Elements, too.

  • Thanks for letting me know! Much appreciated.

  • Excellent tips!! Thanks.
