  • I wish they would make these kind of programs nowadays

  • I loved these Story too...when I was eleven years old....I only saw the german translation, which title "Minty und die Monduhr" on ZDF.....it was great and I miss that....

  • I think the Moondial DVD is very rare to get hold of,i was lucky to get a copy

  • I loved this scary children's tv series so much that i watch it all the time, well when i can,and also i have the book and the dvd and also much more brillaint i have been to the actual location where they filmed "Moondial" Belton House,Belton Lincolnshire.

  • @steve8765 was this the series where the statues of the greeks used to come to life and walk around the grounds at night?

if it isn't, does anyone know which one that was?

  • @ekrasin they have got children with masks and cloaks on who walk around the grounds taunting the girl " Sarah " with the chant "devils child" but no statues of the greeks coming to life ...but i wouldn't know what one that was

  • @ekrasin I think the show you are thinking of is Green Knowe, but it weren't a Greek Statue it was one of Saint Christpher.

  • @georgeowain cheers but it def wasn't children of green knowe- the one i'm thinking of predates that by 6 or 7 years at least. it was early 80s possibly even late 70s

  • Ah... I miss "Moondial"!!

  • The incomparable Jacqueline Pearce played Chessene, in Doctor Who "the two doctors" in 1985 but she's most fameous for her role as Servalan in Blake's 7! She's just brilliant at evil women. Her first part was as a girl who turns into a snake in a Hammer Horror film.

  • I used to really like this... not surprising that I grew up to be someone who loves horror films... ;-)

  • Ha! same here! :D

  • I adored this series it was so dark and scary and also quite daring with the idea of devil worship being in a childrens tv programme!

  • The gift as a remember was set near a quarry (maybe in Wales). I think theboy in it went to live with his Grandmother in her cottage . . . but thats all I really remember . . . It was a spooky series I know that.

  • i live about 5 mins away from where this was filmed...it was great....bring it back !!!!

  • @malcy34 yeah it be awsome or even remake it for today cos the kids Minty Tom and Sarah will be in their 30s now so need new kids to play them but the show is awsome i have it on VHS

  • @malcy34 hi Malcy where was this filmed?

  • @stigmundfreud ..the main big house is Belton House near Grantham in lincolnshire..owned by the national trust..check there web site to see the house...the house where minty was staying is just out side the main entrance to Belton house..

  • I bought a copy of this on dvd today on ebay- there are still 2 copies left item number is 260242267887

  • Who calls a girl Minty?!

  • its araminta you thick twat

  • Minty is short for Araminta!!

  • I was 12 when this was aired, and few things stick in my mind from then, apart from how bloody scarey this show was. A brilliant piece of drama

  • I remember watching this at my Grandmas house when I came home from school. I remember the girl with the birth mark couldnt look in a mirror. But when she looked in a gold mirror shaped like a cross she could see herself and she was beautiful. Used to scare the hell out of me.

As Rache28 said, their was a programme called the gift. That was scary too. Not sure which came first, but they were around the same time.

The Moonlight Shadow video by Mike Oldfield reminds me of this series.

  • i am also searching for 'the gift'..I have compelte moondial on my channel btw.

  • this scared the shite out of me

  • lol me too. Im sure kids have to easy these days!

  • this was dodgy as hell it was amazing tho, i totally forgot what it was called i got it mixed up with that toms midnight garden which was good too but this was better.

  • Moondial was great. Gave me the worst nightmares but was so good.

  • Yes,another great chiuldren's drama, late 80's I think,possibly,1990,very sinister and spooky, wonderful stuff. They knew how to make them back then.Sci fi fans had a treat when the baddie from Blake's 7,Jacqueline Pearce appeared in this one, playing a dual role as 2 villains (again!)Lovely music and beautifully filmed.

  • Luckily, I recorded this at the time it was televised. Siri Neal ( who played Araminta ' Minty' ) went on to perform in other T.V shows before completely disappearing off the radar!

  • Are you able to post any complete episodes on here. You to love this as a kid! terrified the hell out of me.

  • check out the complete vhs on my channel (moondial.) ^peace^

  • Nice tribute. :)

I did one for Chocky, people say that's scarey but it was nowhere near as scary as Moondial! o.O

I like the way you've used the same exploding transition effect at 00:40 that they used on that scene in the programme. :)

  • OMFG! Blooming fantastic! I loved this and had completely forgotton all about it! Thanks for posting it!

  • I never missed an episode i loved it

  • I absolutely loved moondial when I was a kid in the 80's. I must've been about 8 when it was out, so I was scared big time of the evil woman in black who the ghost children were trying to get away from! Do you remember "The Gift" on children's BBC in the 80's as well? that had the most cool theme tune and I've tried to find it, but I can't seem to find it anywhere! I would love it if you were able to put it on here somehow! :D

  • Always remember watching this, we'd just moved into a new house, in the lounge there were two smoked glass pendant light fittings, and just as Minty approached the moondial both bulbs blew! I was 8 and terrified! And if anyone can find The Gift I will be so grateful! Both amazing shows.

  • So would I. I don't actually remember what 'The Gift' was like, but I know I watched it, and I suspect I'd like it today.

  • yeah scary i agree

  • I loved this! You can get it on DVD but it's extremely rare (and expensive).

  • Where from? Can you find me a DVD of it MadcapMan?

  • whats a moondial

  • It's a sundial but in the moonlight they call or called it a Moondial, hence the name of the programme

  • i have to read the book for school. ''moondial'' by helen cresswell. Im only on page 33 :P

  • I remember this. I loved this, and i missed the final episode. AAAAAAAARRRRGGGHH!

  • It's available on a BBC DVD.

  • Omg, i used to love this show. Was pretty spooky tho, they need to bring it back!

  • OMG! I loved Moondial! Wish they would bring it out on DVD! I thought it was a great series for kids!

  • HA ! MOONDIAL...this was such a cool series. Thanks

  • Spooky! But awesome!
