I loved the 90s version of doom, hell, dark things, macabre. It was fuckin bad ass. No emogoth bullshit, no eye liner. Just blood guts, stone, metal, demons, death. The way it should be.
@SandersonCallum Well I don't even have the game installed anymore. But to be honest the music isn't that special for the game. If I remember correctly it had only about 3 tracks or something.
I played this game when I was 9 years old (I think it were on 1996 / 1997)
It was a horrific game with a lot of blood, strange monsters (I had many nightmares on that time with monsters) and it was very hard (I got killed only on the first time I saw the 2nd boss)!!
I played this game long time ago, but as I recall, there was some scary face that poped up at random points durign the game and it used to scary the shit out of me. I don't remember who's face that was, but it sure wasnt Jesica Alba's. :-)
@cw3le Yeah it was some kind of blue-ish skeleton like face with horns and red eyes. And the sound it made when it appeared was what makes you jump the first time it happens :D
It seems like a lot of the fans of these games are about my age, haha. I played this when I was around 5..6..7..8 too. It was pretty good, all in all. Level design was a bust, but it was unique and the artstyle was top notch in my opinion.
I LOVED it as a kid... kinda scared me it was such a werid game, the enemies were so werid.... i can't explain it... the sounds, everything... just... different!
Despite what people say this game had something going for it and some really neat ideas, such as spells and weapons being seperate and weapons breaking. Unfortunaly it lacked horrendously in level design and gameplay. The levels were just random boring mazes and i don't think i've ever played such a buggy and glitchy FPS game as this.
Its funny how you mention that, because i'm playing Daggerfall right now, and i look at how they say, they sacrificed size of world (ex, daggerfall's the size of Great britain) for uniqueness, yet i'd say oblivion's dungeons can be just as repetitive as Daggerfalls. Most of the time, i feel like i'm in the same dungeon in oblivion, which is kinda sad, concidering the newer games are smaller to prevent that, yet they still do it anyway.
@DoomHacker83 The problem with this game besides it having obvious rip offs from doom and Hexen (I forget did Hexen come out first?) is that it had bad level designs and its monsters.... well I won't comment on the monsters. Actually I will. The monsters looked horrible.
The idea of the game was cool with spells and such, but the dead bodies of humans look exactly the same as the dead bodies in doom (the guys on spears) and the maps/monsters were horrible. Too bad it could've been really cool.
Thanks for the info! And could You please upload also the game ending? - I am really lame player in Witchaven and I was curious how the endgame looks :).
Maybe I do that but its nothing spectacular, just shows a picture of your knight and then there is a text which says:
With the death of Illwhyrin (the witch)the Rift between the Realm and Nether Reaches Collapsed. Lord Verkapheron returned triumphantly to redeem his place as a Champion and Keeper of Char. The scattered remains of Illwhyrins minions fell swiftly under Verkapherons legions and Peace was restored.

A great old pcgame with cool medieval music. They sure knew how to make cool games with classic soundtracks back in the day.

I miss the days of enemies having hilarious death animations... Today the proper level of violence that these games had is hard to come by.

For me the worst downside were animations and sounds of enemies, but I enjoyed it :)

Looks like 1st person Diablo 1. But IMO the atmosphere here is more solid. Lovely game..

@Doomhacker83: Read the video description ;)
And yes I agree with you, its a nice game but sadly lacks some nice levels.
Funny thing is that today we have games like oblivion, but there, all the dungeons suffer from the same, repetitive designs ^^

On a side note, daggerfall is awesome.

I heard that dragon is the game`s boss - is it the last level?
pjvgt 3 years ago
The dragon is more of a normal boss enemy because you meet him in various levels.
The endboss of the game is a Witch ;)

Grondoval (your playerchar) was given a Heroes welcome, and his further adventures eventually led him to his own land; his own kingdom.
...But that is another Story
End :D
