One of my all time tunes from a period when I was young and foolish with money and travel the lenght and breath of England dancing at all dayers where being a Funkateer was like being in a members club with the hair style and clothes we wore :-)
DAMNNNN! ~ WE NEED ALL THIS 'REAL' MUSIC BACK IN OUR LIVES! ~ WHAT A TIME WE HAD! CLUBS WERE CLUBS AND PEOPLE DANCED THEIR BUTTS OFF! AAAAAHHH....MEMORIES...SHAME!
@j491 I bought this single from Virgin.12"verson so good .Still there were other sax records and all great memories,Just what were you doing when you heard this!
..Dancing at the 100 Club @ 100 Oxford Street W.1 It was a Saturday, late afternoon. The legendary Ronnie L had just got the tune straight off the boat, so to speak. It was an instant smash. Especially with the ladies!
On an impulse, I decided to take the bus from the West-end to Shepherds Bush, to test 'Green Sleeves Records' to see if they had it. They did. Fresh in.
Ohhhh myyyy godddd i sooooo love this song (For years i thought it was a man who sung this LOL) . Another one of my 12" favorites from up in my loft ... thank gawd for people like you who upload these fantastic tunes for us to enjoy
@asceses You are TOOOOOOOOOOO FUNNY!! Yes, Evelyn has that deep, 'manly' voice ... but she sang the H*ll-O out of this!! Thanks for commenting ... put a smile on my face! (I, too, still have this on vinyl ... classic!)
@BeB1essed LOL Aww bless your heart... i am VERY glad i cheered you up x
Another one of my fave Evelyn songs that she sang the hell outa was/is "Love come down", i have this on 12" vynil too "No sleep last night, been thinking of you, please hold me tight, cos i cant help the way that im feeling, no i cant help the way that im feeling ....." She might have had a deep voice, but boy oh boy i agree its a good one ;)
This song is absolutely timeless. It sounds as fresh today as the day it came out. I think that's because in addition to being "disco," it's got elements of funk, jazz, even gospel... Love love LOVE me some "Shame."
the first 12" i ever bought. my local pub used to put on disco once a month. it was really amusing to see 30-40 real tough-nuts who normally wouldn't been seen dead dancing, all in a row letting themselves go to this no. music reaches everybody!
you are so right so many memories and today they want to still call it music THIS WAS MUSIC GREAT GREAT I MISS IT and i am in my 40s were did the time go wow
You ain't kidding. This song is STILL capable of blowing the doors off of the hinges today—30 years after the fact. How many of today's songs can you say that about?
The 80"s clubs, glamour, big hair, nice nice men (crisp lookin men)mmmm would do it all again and some. we were called THE PUSSY POSSIE! Good good times.....
When this song was popular in the late 70s, some radio stations in the Dallas area where I lived featured late-night "disco nights" once a week where they'd play extended-play versions and remixes of popular disco songs like this, one fading into another. I was about age 12, and I'd dance til I nearly dropped.
This song is still a classic, ethanreed70 has the Mexican copy with the yellw RCA label, but this is the UK copy of this song with the orange RCA (circa 1968-77 from the US release) and the US copy has the black RCA with the classic Nipper "His Master's Voice" logo (1977-88)

I paid 99 pence (UK) for this back then. I complained at the time that it was too expensive. lol
Because the 12 inch vinyl was a new thing then, and a big jump in the price, from 56 pence for 7 inch vinyl.
Oh how swift the march of time...
We still laugh when I tell that story...
