This was the #1 song on the Billboard charts on the day I was born. Frankly, I really don't think it's all that great. And, it stayed in the #1 spot for 10 weeks?!!
In the mid 1950's I was working in Tokyo One of our favorite night stops was the Latin Quarter Al Shattuck and his wife Doris were the managers the band was Nobu Hara and his Sharps and Flats a very talented group Their rendition of Cherry Pink was a huge hit Rarely did they play a set without this stirring tune And we customers loved it
@tucsonronb ...The only pool we could use was at Camp Sakai, Japan. Next door was the NCO Club which had outdoor speakers from the jukebox inside. This song was played almost every other time. Music is a time machine that only goes backward...I love it.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm love it love it love it, like anything with trumpet, saxaphone have loved this tune without the words since i was knee high to a grasshopper now i just have to get my daughter to burn it for me
The big success of " Cherry Pink" , along with the other cha cha and mambo songs of the 50's, turned on non-latino americans to the conga-bongos beat that gave Richie Valens a hit with a rock&roll style, "La Bamba". Later on, Santana came on with his latin-jazz-salsa rock. Perez Prado is owed pioneer status by "mamberos".
I love this song so much!! It fills me up with lovable fun vividly memorize of my long gone, but not forgotten, Grandfather who played this song on his stereo and dance with my grandmother as they laugh and enjoyed the time... I miss them so dearly....
This came out the year before I was born, But my Mom and Dad had this on a album called Lucky Strike Hit Parade 1955. This is on it along with 16 Tons, Sweet and Gentile, Teach me Tonight
Beautiful, thanks so much. Simple because it's thhought out. As with all things it always looks sooooooooo easy but that comes with experience. You're good. Congrats.
Since this was a huge hit from 1955, you should've shown someone cruising around in a pink-and-white '55 Ford Crown Victoria. Much better than a stupid VW bus.
This tune was featured in the movie "Deal of the Century" with Chevy Chase/Gregory Hines/Sigourney Weaver, was played pretty much completely during the closing credits. Was a nice surprise hearing it, I've always liked it. Got sheet music for it, it does have lyrics, was also featured in a film called "Underwater".
This video is posted on Facebook page called "Golden Tunes - Sound of Oldies", so if you have fb account and some time, check it, i guess you will like it :) Page is for everyone who like like warm cozy sound of evergreen music.
My great-grandfather says that this music reminds him of old Havana ..... early 1950's ... when they had fabulous shows at various hotels and the place was a true paradise.
Damaso Perez Prado, one of the greatest musicians to come out of Cuba. Him, Celia Cruz, Beny More, Olga Guillot, and the master of them all, Ernesto Lecuona. I was able to hear all of them in Cuba. @kkesoj Just a reminder in this song excels the trumpet of Isidro "chilo" Moran , mexican trumpetist who was one of the excellents musics of The Perez Prado Orchestra, "chilo" Moran could be one of the greatest trumpetist of ever but as mexican he has been ignored when talking about the best musicians of jazz latin, afrocaribbean music etc. etc.

My dad died 5 years ago. When I was a little girl we used to dance to this song, me standing on his feet. I played it when we buried him. Nobody understood, but I didn't care. I would like to play it on my wedding next year, but I'm unsure because I don't want to cry all day long ...
It was the most popular piece of instrumental music played time and again on air in the 50's, even in a relatively unknown place as Hong Kong. At that time we had no TV for home entertainment. Thanks for taking us down the memory lane once more.
This was my Dads favorite song too and he too has passed on. I'm getting married in Aug '10 and dancing with my 2 brothers to this song... in memory of my Daddy. BIG HUG!!
5/13/10.....this brings back so memories of when I was young and could dance the mambo, cha cha cha and every latin dance mostly with my cousin who also loved the latin mujsic. TIME DOES NOT MAKE THINGS BETTER. roselli
My mother loved Prez Prado. I had to get past that "Ugh!" that came up every so often, but once I got around that, I began to appreciate the superb music. Now about that "Ugh!". . .
Go Mr. Prado. This was so beautiful in the 50's when I first entered grade school. I remember this playing in the little soda shops, on the radio and thinking it was one of the most beautiful tunes I'd ever heard and still do! thanks for posting. I was looking for Beautiful Margaret too. I still miss this man! RIP. Mambo cha cha!!!

This takes me back to my childhood. It was one of my mother's favorite songs. She loved the Sax and she used to play her bongo drums in time with the beat.
@conradsdad - you're < mid-century (I'm 66 -born in WWII) Not only did I constantly hear this professionalism of muscians growing up, my parents put me in band to learn it - I love this music, but never even approached ineptness - too interested in the guitar - you know, that thing wannabe cowboys used?
I always loved this song but really enjoyed it in "Little Miss Firecracker" which I think might be Holly Hunter's first movie. Mary Strubergen and Tim Robbins dance to it
esta cancion es bella, me recuerda mi papa que solia oirla cuando yo era adolecente, en ese tiempo no la apreciaba, hoy tengo 43 anos, y la disfruto como mi padre solia hacerlos, viva la musica cubana! yo soy mexicano.
In Fort Worth, Texas, my daddy played in a band in 1956 and he played this song on his trumpet for his best gal. She is now his wife of 53 years....my mom!! He is listening right now!!!
My dad didn't play in a band but he loved this song. When I took up the trumpet as a kid, I played a simple version of it for him (without the trademark Prado "growl") and he was very pleased.
@rba2211 Please check this out on youtube for a version by the Fabulous Thunderbirds. The trumpet part is done on harmonica by an amazinly adept player.

@conradsdad I'm only 46, but I remember listening to my fathers 78's. There was a pride back then, I haven't heard a better rendition than Prado's

My dad sat on the '78 record of this song and we were all mad at him. This is a cherished memory from the '50's, thanks for posting!!

Utterly charming vid. This was one of my parents' favorite songs, until my dad sat on the 78 and shattered it!
