  • Damn, I better go buy a new Evo.

  • I just recently learned about this in oceanography and it just makes you wonder what else is this human race bringing to an end.

  • You have to learn more about your subject!!! there is a lot of mistakes in your video.

  • @temanaguerrier Thank you for this comment. We certainly do not agree. Before making this video we did an very detailed research. Further reading: The bluefin bonanza by Wietse Van der Werf (you can download a free pdf on our website). Read, study and get involved instead of telling crap. Peace!

  • @temanaguerrier"crap"!!!

I think that my experience is not crap!!!

Reading or learning is not as good for me than experience!

Do you know that we fish blue fin tuna in Iceland? And that tuna as moved far north?

Please don't tell me crap !

  • We need a world moratorium on Blue fin tuna. It must be illegal to catch any

Blue fin Tuna & it must be enforced!

It is so stupidly short-sighted for people to overfish it to death. What will they eat When it's all gone? Much worse though is the damage it will do to the entire eco-system. Everyone should boycott Mitsubishi, evil, greedy bastards!

  • It's a shame how stubborn people are. If cows were disappearing, most Americans would laugh in your face at the mere suggestion that they cut back on burgers. People never even accept that environmental problems are real until it's too late.

  • HAIKU

    I hatch! Crawl! And swim!

Oh how I love my sweet life,

    Please don’t hunt me.

    —A Green Sea Turtle

  • This is horrible. This planet was designed to provide food for us all - but not to satisty the greed of corporate food industries...

  • I like these type of videos !

  • I do not buy or consume fish for that reason

  • @Lenzabi Thank you so much!

  • If you are eating fish, you are killing the oceans and the planet.

  • oh good. I'm tried of people crying "save the wild horse of America and Australia" "Alaska wolves are the most endangerd animal in the world"

  • Let us also spread the word to boycott Mitsubishi. This is not the first environmental offense they have been involved with.

  • You (or somebody else) could use the European citizens' initiative to gather signatures and bring this up with the European Commission. I have no expertise in setting up a petition like that (especially since it has to span so many countries) but I'd gladly sign it if one was brought to my attention.

  • @ToiletseatPhilosophy Interesting idea. But we need to see if we can handle such a big campaign, and we don't have much time left. But thanks for letting us know!

  • @ToiletseatPhilosophy Hey Philsophy, I would sign it aswell.

  • I think the real question is "how many fish are left?". Catch quotas don't account for poaching and our lack of knowledge on how many fish are left. The big fish are the best breeders and taking them creates a much bigger impact than taking smaller fish. Fishing methods in today's world are much too efficient than in the days of rod and reel.

I will concur that the Canadian blue fin stocks are likely in much better shape than stocks in other parts of the world. The stocks do need to be managed.

  • I understand that the Med. fishery is out of control. More pressure needs to be put on the countries who fish there. I dont think this type of BS propaganda is the way to go. And remember that western atl. fisheries do not farm tuna in pens, do not scoop hundreds at a time, and abide by quotas.

  • Here in the USA we have a healthy Blue Fin fishery. Our quotas are a small fraction of the Meds. Claiming that the last blue fin will likely be caught in 2012 is ludicrous. Why do you have to lie to the people who dont know better? Western Atlantic stocks appear to be on the rise. Most of the fish are caught by rod and reel. That means one hook for one fish. Reporting catch is required by law and happens within 24 hours of landing. Our quotas are conservative.

  • "If you tell the Japanese to stop eating blue fin sushi or whatever about sushi,... it would be like if you were telling the Mexicans to stop eating tacos" ..., so you see the magnitude of the problem?

I think the best way to reduce all damage we've done would be to start a scientific plan to reduce human population worldwide until we reach the optimal level in the food chain as top predators,....uhmm!.... but being optimist, educate children would be a good start,....

  • @rascherkinsman1

you can aducate also japanese children or even the adults , no?

and the mexicans can eat there taco's..it's not a endangered species

  • @Yawwaza

Yes you're right, but I think you can hardly educate japanese adults aged 50+,

mexican tacos are not endangered but,... we need to change the industry of butchering too, the way the cows are grown and feed, disturbing too...

    thanks for sharing my comment

  • Great, another reason that the world might end in 2012!!

  • i take issue only with one of the final statements, i.e. 'chances are the last bluefin tuna will die in 2012'. if taken at face value, it is already far too late. on what basis was this statement made ??

  • @thesheaproject Check 'The Bluefin Bonanza', by Wietse van der Werf. We give you a link at his document on our website, under section 'The Bluefin Tuna'.

Also just search 'bluefin 2012' in Google and you get some websites that gives you references to conlusions of some scientists.

  • @HOWTOSAVETHEBLUEFIN

thanks - will check it out & pass it on... please keep up the good work !

  • I've come to the conclusion that living sustainably as an individual will not be enough to save the planet. We have to address all the crap left by those before us.

I've learned that changing the mind of an adult is a lost cause, unless they are willing to be educated and accept change.

Educating children is the best was to effect change and they are the beneficiaries of the world we are creating.

  • @UWVIDEO1 your right we can not save the planet just by living sustainably and that crap i am currently fifteen and have been facinated with animals (especaily oceans) sinnce i was three years old I mean i used to sit there and draw whales i got to a point were i could draw an orca in about a minute but then highschool happend but anyway you are right young children are the future and if we can get them to want to help then there might be hope for animals like tuna wolves and blue whales

  • If I believe your video and all it's claims the situation is dire. However, you provide zero references for your "facts" I would be more impressed if your site had links to sources for your information. Sadly the world is full of people who jump to conclusions, and before I join your cause I want to know that you really know what you are talking about. Humorously as I write this I get invited to a sushi restaurant for lunch.

  • @fsparv Perhaps you might want to take a little of your own time, rather than be spoon fed. I am the VP of the Canadian Marine Environment Protection Society and the President of the Marine Life Sanctuaries Society of BC and I would fully endorse this animation and the information in it.

It is up to individuals to put some personal effort into learning. Get out there and educate yourself. Then get out there and do something about it.

  • @UWVIDEO1 As an activist, it should be your goal to make it easy for people to agree with you. "go read these 12 books" wins no hearts. Good citation of sources mostly appears in two places that I am aware of. Scholarly works, and the emails I get from Move-on.org. You might take their example to heart. It takes work, but I'm sure Move-on doesn't waste their time. Like them or not you must agree that they are passionate and effective. I'm trying to encourage you to be similarly effective.

  • @UWVIDEO1 Do you see a probem with the blue fin fishery in Canada? The fish are huge and the quotas are caught in days using rod and reel. Seems pretty darn good to me.

  • @fsparv Our site HAS links to the sources of our information, but you need to take time to read them.

Check under "The Bluefin Tuna", read everything, and we'd be happy to answer further questions.

  • @HOWTOSAVETHEBLUEFIN I've got a list of 13 claims in your video I'd like to substantiate. Now if I go and read *all* your sources looking for the answer to those specific claims, how long do you think I need to spend? if I make this the only thing I do when do you think I'll finish the reading list.? Can you make it faster? Will the tuna die while I'm still "doing my homework" reading? (these comments are meant to help you)

  • @fsparv You are complaining you don't have time to read the sources you asked for, yet you want us to give you our sources? The reason we made this video is for people like you, who don't have much time to go scientific and into detail. If you want detail and back-up sources, please investigate. We don't have time to explain this to every viewer. We need to DO something about this problem.

  • @fsparv Yes Videos like this sum up a lot of information which IS GOOD, but in doing so they open themselves up to question. I am very strongly in favor of environmental causes, and I want them to do well. Unfortunately the more dire the need, and the more extreme the situation, the harder it is to believe. Transcript annotated with sources for statements like "extinct by 2012" or "EU gave 2 billion euros" will help you convince more people.

  • @fsparv Again, please read the documentation you find on our website under 'The Bluefin Tuna', where we refer to all our sources. Thanks.

  • @fsparv People are more frightened by reality ("the more dire the need") and exhibit signs of denial and cognitive dissonance. People will flock to the newest scary movie, yet refuse to see a movie like The Cove because it shows reality. You underestimate the incapacity of people to deal with real situations.

I have spent decades on marine issues, decades diving and decades as an activist.

Being "in favor" does nothing. Educate yourself and get out there.

  • @UWVIDEO1 You just argued that people will respond better to a *lack* of real information, and thus you don't cite sources directly, but only indirectly such that your claims are hard to trace to their sources? In essence I think you just said fiction is more persuasive, and reality just scares people away? Care enough to make a video, but somehow don't care enough to provide clear citations. Hmm. Being in favor does nothing? even if it means I stop ordering tuna? Wasn't that the point?

  • Isn't it great how everything dies because we can't control our basal urges? Humans are fucking awesome! BEST SPECIES EVER!!!

  • weee ~~ lets celebrate the end together ~ cuz there' no way in hell thse coporate goons who are controlling our economies will give up their positions ~ unless we send Batman or some vilgilante to assasinate them ~

  • .....and every living thing died that was in the sea....

  • @thestreetsempty if you care about living you care about tuna. Go vegan!!! Support Sscs!!

  • @CRAZYMANIAC44 You don't have to go Vegan. But I agree if you care about Marine Wildlife support SSCS!

  • @huitunsept

True, you don't have to go vegan, but dramatically reducing your intake of animal products would definitely help. As it is, the majority of people consume many times more than their daily requirements anyway.

  • @huitunsept Considering that factory farming contributes to overfishing (60% of all fish go to farm animals - not counting fisheries), yes, you do have to go vegan. The reason this fish and other sea life are endangered or threatened, is because of overfishing. The caught fish are distributed amongst consumers and animal agriculture industries.

  • This is why I love conservation societies (SSCS, Greenpeace, etc...) and I hate the people who break these laws and endanger not only us, but the oceans

  • If you care about the dolphin, you should care about the tuna. If you care about our land ecosystem, you should care about the marine ecosystem.

This animal is on the brink of extinction. Save them. Stop eating them. Stop eating all animals, as overfishing is directly affiliated with factory farming (60% of fish go to the farms).

A plant-based diet, supplemented if need be, provides all essential nutrients.

The bluefin has only one year - GO VEGAN NOW.

  • This video is wrong in almost every claim made in it.

  • @karlpetur Cite your sources which claim otherwise. As this is known in all academic fields as the reality we're facing.

  • 7 people hate oceanic life...

  • not really my older foster sister is .... different shes physicly 17 but is mentaly 6 if that makes sence tuna is a big problen for her as well as to kids like her we used to love tuna but it made her problems worse it left the house and never came back but she does not live here anymore because of these problems and the tuna might have added to it

  • spread the word!!!

  • @nosswark ..... the tuna from the supermarket IS from the killed tuna! they kill mass amounts of tuna package it and ship it all over the world includeing supermarkets so what you just said does not help one bit after all tuna form the supermarket has to come form somewhere and were might that be? the ocean were they do these mass killing in other words these mass tuna killings are what keeps the supermarket full of tuna

  • Save the animals!

  • @graveyardchildescape Yes! We will! :)

  • thing is not only are we endagering the worlds tuna but ourselves to tuna is loaded with iron and heavy metal fiish are found to harm our bodies and brains especially those children around the world with disabilitys children who are looked down upon for being different the tuna sales are causing more problems for them so the can be made fun of more so two problems tuna going extinct causing more problems for little kids open your hearts and minds people SAVE THE TUNA

  • @animalguy888 Thanks for your comment! We wished that there would be more people like you, who are well informed! Keep up the good work!

  • @animalguy888 hey, i heard that mercury is really only an issue with pregnant women because the foetus is susceptible to neurological damage. i also heard that some adults have to consume an insane amount of tuna for the mercury levels to be considered lethal.

while im an advocate for sustainable fisheries and appreciate that bluefin are on the verge of economic collapse, i don't see anything wrong with consuming tuna...

  • 6 people don't like the annoying jingle

  • God dammit! What is wrong with the world?! Honestly! What will they do when they become extinct? People are so stupid.

  • Spread it on facebook!

  • Dit is toch godverdomme mijn probleem nie? Zalm>tonijn.

  • YUM, this video makes me hungry for sushi!!!

In fact, I'm going to go get some sushi RIGHT NOW, because I watched this!

    :-)

Thumbs up if Mashiko's Sushiwhore twitter feed sent you here!!

  • Heb deze vid alvast gepost op mijn Facebook wall!

  • @McColanis ik ook!

  • @gaiko1982 Bedankt!!

  • @McColanis Goed bezig!! Bedankt!

  • Hey Polydore! no problem. And many think that the tuna they eat in America(sushi i mean) is actually not blue fin, over 80% is taken and frozen for consumption by Japan. those folks are likely eating the also endangered Yellow fin.

  • I have signed at Care2causes, I have spoken to many, some still will not see the problem, there are those that do not care, or want all the "Bad news" to go away. I personally do not eat Tuna or any fish anymore due to overfishing.

Vitamin D is made when your sking get's 20+ minutes of sun, or drink your milk!

Omega 3 can come from other fish, or some plants even.Protein? plenty of other sources than fish. The Bluefin got another whammy, last summer, their breeding grounds got OIled by BP

  • @Lenzabi Thanks for your thoughts.

    Polydore

  • @Lenzabi Milk causes more problems in the body than it's worth, & can deplete calcium from bones. There are tons of better food sources of vitamin D. Omega 3 is also something that's been pushed to be more important than it really is. Anyways, flaxseed & oil has a boatload of it and the most optimal source. Basil, marjoram, oregano, cloves, tarragon, chia seeds, sprouted radish seeds, Chinese broccoli, spinach, alfalfa sprouts, tofu, walnuts, and butternuts, among others, are also great sources.

  • heel knap gedaan!! heel veel succes met jullie project!

  • Is there a petition we can sign? Because I don't find it.

  • @Warkilll No petition. Although we agree the quota has to be much less or zero, we don't have time for that. There are enough laws that restrict the Bluefin tuna catch, and we're focusing on that. We need to get the materials to intervene according to the UN World Charter for Nature.

  • @HOWTOSAVETHEBLUEFIN Please visit our website for more info

  • Dude, this animation is made to make the people aware, not to smack their heads in with scientific data or numbers. Maybe you should provide us with some actual science to prove otherwise?

  • @mrpeemusic Thanks!

  • HOWTOSAVETHEBLUEFIN ,

" the fact that the Bluefin is EXTREMELY threatened is the truth."

    Prove it!

Nothing could be farther from the truth!

Stocks are recovering after years of overfishing! This past season in New England was the best in memory!

  • @HeliHabit13

Looks like this movie struck a nerve :D

It may be possible stocks are recovering, but that doesn't mean the species recovered.

  • @mrpeemusic Thanks mrpee! Keep up the good work! We need you!

  • @HeliHabit13 For facts; enter Wietse van der werf on google, and on his website you can find lots of facts, based on scientific research!

  • zomerdromer, WWF, Greenpeace are not sources of independent and reliable science! These organizations have agendas, in this case it's shutting down fisheries and putting fishermen out of business. Bluefin stocks are nowhere near extinction, please provide some actual science that stocks are not recovering. Wikipedia, ha-ha, thatis funny!

  • Gewéldig! Er zijn nog veel te weinig mensen die gewoonweg niet wéten dat de tonijn met uitsterven bedreigd is. De eerste stap is bewustmaking. Merci!

  • @zomerdromer Thx Zomerdromer! Sharen als je kan! :)

  • This is entertaining and well produced, but it''s riddled with factually incorrect information. It's a shame that HOWTOSAVETHEBLUEFIN cant substatiate any of their rhetoric with scientific data. This must have cost quite a bit to make, that money would have been better spent on science. But then again, there is no scientific information that indicates that this species is anywhere close to extinction...

  • @HeliHabit13 Umm... yeah there is. Just follow the news, WWF, Greenpeace. Even on wikipedia it says that the species is suffering from almost-extinction. And no, i'm not gonna put all the links in here, just google it yourself.

  • @HeliHabit13 Hi HeliHabit, thanks for your views on our animation.

We've collected data from A LOT of independent scientists, the IUCN, environmental organisations and a lot more sources. The fact is that some data is not well understood, or parts are missing. We've chosen the most occurring facts and used them in our video.

However, the fact that the Bluefin is EXTREMELY threatened is the truth.

  • Btw, we want to mention that no money has being spent on this video. Just blood, sweat and tears of two passionate students with the collaboration of friendly people. :)

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • well, Japanise are known for their ignorance in these things, also whaling.

Are they dumb or what? Can they not understand, that if they dont reduce this, they will not have this fish, that brings in all the money, to take from anywhere.

So then we will just point an laugh at them for being as stupid as they are.

    makes me mad.

  • @TheNewVideos We need to use our collective power to convince the world not to participate in this kind of fisheries. Thanks for your thoughts, please enlighten the world by sharing this vid!

  • spreading it on my facebook, twitter and other forum's :)

  • @JulieBrondeel Thanks Julie! Keep up the good work!

  • If I could only like this more than once!

  • And where am I to get my Omega 3 acids, vitamine D and protein?

  • @ReX342 Other kinds of tuna (or fish)? :-)

  • @ReX342 If you would eat bluefin, you would get mercury in your blood, so choose again, and look for an alternative ;)

  • @HOWTOSAVETHEBLUEFIN Is this not true of ALL fatty fish?

  • @ReX342

protein and vitamin D is easy: protein can be found in beans (way cheaper than fish) or nuts, and a normal person gets enough vitamin D by just sticking their nose out of the house once a day.

as for omega 3: i haven't eaten any fish or products containing fish in almost twelve years and i'm healthy. really.

it is entirely possible to live a healthy life without eating fish or meat every day, you just have to put your mind to it a bit more and be more conscious about what you eat.

  • @wolkjemetpootjes: protein from beans is not so well absorbed as meat or fish. The change that has to happen is the input of insects. Some of them consist for 50% of protein. There are much more insects and the chances of getting ill is much smaller.

As for poly-unsaturated fats you can go for walnuts or flax oil. But in fact, you don't need such a large amount of those kind of fats. Most of the fats you eat should consist of saturated fats...

  • @Frag1ty Rape seed oil is the best source for poly unsaturated fats, and also contains omega 3 oils. Smaller oily fish such as mackeral are much better for people then tuna, and I agree also that insects would be an interesting (and healthier) subsitute.

  • Beautifully clear, informative and concise film - clearly destined to make a positive impact by raising awareness around a critical issue - not only relevant to bluefin, but the entire marine ecosystem.

  • @societas1 Thank you for liking our animation. We are very pleased that by this movie, we also raise awareness for the oceans. Spread the word about the animation, so we can save the bluefin!

  • Well done.

  • @jlb2 Thank you! Spread the word ;)

  • @HOWTOSAVETHEBLUEFIN - reposted on facebook. One correction for the future. CITES is pronounced "SIGH - TEES", not "SITES"

  • @jlb2 Thanks, we'll remember that!

  • Get ready to kiss your butts goodbye! Dead Ocean=Dead Planet, that does happen to include people.

  • @Lenzabi We know! So spread the word! And let's try to save our oceans!

  • I dont care if you want to eat tuna, tuna has the right to live and thrive just like every other specie on the planet so fuck off. SAVE THE TUNA!!!

  • I dont care if you want to eat tuna, tuna has the right to live and thrive just like every other specie on the planet so fuck off. SAVE THE TUNA!!!

  • @BulgarianInCanada Thank you for your post! Spread the word about this animation! Let's save some fucking tuna!

  • I love Bluefin .... too bad

  • mmm Sushi

maar goed dat ik geen tonijn lust en vooral voor de andere sushi ga.

dus niks tegen alle sushi, wees maar gewoon tegen de sashimi!

  • Let's save the bluefin!

    And no sushi!

  • Mooi, beetje overdreven drama.

    Who's in for Sushi? :)~

  • Mooi, beetje overdreven drama.

  • @LouisLuyten We zullen je helpen met je maguro-verslaving! Als we onze krachten samenbundelen, geraak je ervan af!

  • heel mooi gedaan!

  • @rcheiligers thx :)

  • Een mooie actie met hopelijk grote gevolgen.
