Pete Seeger says Sonny, Brownie and Woody all played a benefit gig during the war. After the gig, they offered Woody a seat a the main banquet table and Sonny and Terry to eat in the kitchen. Woody came unglued and turned over the tables with dishes crashing, yelling that they did not have to go to Germany to fight Fascism, it was rigth here. Sonny and Terry had to drag him out screaming
Great find. I presume that's Terry and McGhee there as well. Three American legends, playing a legendary song about another American legend. How lucky are we to have youtube.
Woody is absolutely great. One face of the USA is Frank Sinatra (who was also great) who represents the richer people, and is the shinny face, but on the other side there is Woody Guthrie who is a man for the people, singing protest songs and talking about facts of hard life :) long live Woody Guthrie's music and his heirs!
Way Nice, fun footage, I saw sarah lee guthrie last month and like her grand dad. Oh my God. I think she may start sing some of woody's unrecorded music!.
40 years ago today, On October 3, 1967 Woody Guthrie died of Huntington's chorea..RIP Woody and thanks for your folk songs and the changes that your influence made on traditional rock and roll.

This man lived the most ironic life. An artistically expressive genius who mentally erodes, until having to blink twice for "yes" and once for "no"

It's a damn shame there aren't a lot more films of Woody, and also Leadbelly.
